Garland claimed \u2062that DOJ decisions are based solely on facts and law, without \u200cinfluence from political affiliations, personal status, or appearances. His commentary came at a time \u200cwhen the DOJ&#8217;s handling of cases involving pro-life groups, education-concerned parents, and former President Donald Trump has been \u2062highly scrutinized and viewed \u2062by some as politically motivated.<\/p>\n<p>Critics, including conservative\u2064 journalist Mollie Hemingway, responded sharply to Garland&#8217;s assertions, mocking his call for Americans to stop criticizing the \u2064DOJ. A number\u2062 of social\u2063 media users echoed this sentiment, questioning the DOJ&#8217;s credibility and integrity under Garland&#8217;s \u2062leadership. Garland&#8217;s piece also \u200ccoincidentally aligned with the conviction of Hunter\u2062 Biden on firearms charges, which \u2062added to the controversy, as Hunter is seen by some as having been previously \u2064treated leniently by the DOJ.<\/p>\n<p>In his article, Garland urged an end \u200dto &#8220;unfounded&#8221; attacks on the DOJ, which \u200bhe described as harmful to democracy and \u2062the safety of DOJ employees. This statement has only intensified the \u200ddebate about the \u2063fairness\u2063 and independence of the Justice \u2062Department under the current administration. \u200cCritics argue that Garland&#8217;s use of the Washington Post for his defense\u200d and his insistence on the integrity of his office in the face of widespread skepticism may have been ill-advised,\u200b calling into question his judgment \u200dand the transparency of\u2063 his department.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"readmore\">\n    <button onclick=\"showReadMore()\" id=\"readmorebtn\">Read more&#8230;<\/button>\n<\/p>\n<hr id=\"line\">\n<span id=\"more\"><\/p>\n<header> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/commentary\/\">  Commentary <\/a>   <span> <\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/author\/jsaunders\/\">  <\/a> <\/p>\n<p> <span>   By <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/author\/jsaunders\/%20\"><span>Joe Saunders<\/span><\/a> <\/span> <span>   June 11, 2024 at 11:14am <\/span> <\/span>  <\/header>\n<section>\n<p>Merrick Garland had the right to remain silent \u2014 he should have used it.<\/p>\n<p>Instead, the attorney general of the United States, a man who has spent three years overseeing what used to be called \u201cjustice system\u201d decided to take to the pages of one of the country\u2019s biggest newspapers to tell Americans they haven\u2019t been seeing what they\u2019ve actually been seeing.<\/p>\n<p>And it\u2019s already backfiring.<\/p>\n<p>In a commentary published Tuesday by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/opinions\/2024\/06\/11\/merrick-garland-justice-department-threats-fbi-2024\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The Washington Post<\/a>, Garland attacked his fellow citizens who have watched as his Justice Department has given terrorist treatment to parents <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/parents-group-speaks-reportedly-targeted-fbi-merrick-garland-terrorist-threats\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">worried about their kids education<\/a> and to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/bidens-doj-threatening-lock-peaceful-pro-life-protesters-prison-11-years\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">pro-life groups guilty<\/a> of believing babies in the womb deserve protection and gone after former President Donald Trump with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/official-ethics-complaint-filed-special-counsel-jack-smith-face-discipline\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">special prosecutor Jack Smith<\/a> in a blatant effort to get President Joe Biden re-elected.<\/p>\n<p>And he claimed with almost laughable audacity that it\u2019s all above reproach.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Justice Department makes decisions about <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/garland-blasts-baseless-attacks-on-doj-absurd-and-dangerous\/\" title=\"Garland condemns 'baseless' attacks on DOJ as 'absurd and dangerous\">criminal investigations based<\/a> only on the facts and the law,\u201d Garland wrote.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe do not investigate people because of their last name, their political affiliation, the size of their bank account, where they come from or what they look like. We investigate and prosecute violations of federal law \u2014 nothing more, nothing less.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Seriously? It would be hard to find more than a handful of Americans \u2014 regardless of their political sympathies \u2014 who would believe that in the face of the record Garland &#038; Co. have compiled during the Biden administration. There\u2019s barely room to go into all the reasons the assertion is so absurd.<\/p>\n<p>This is an administration where the two-tiered system of justice is on display on a daily basis. First son Hunter Biden has been a walking repudiation of law and order for more than a decade, but has gotten kid-gloves treatment by Garland\u2019s department for years.<\/p>\n<div id=\"firefly-poll-container\">\n<p>Is the Department of Justice corrupt?<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p>His <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/breaking-jury-announces-verdict-hunter-biden-trial\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">conviction Tuesday<\/a> of firearms charges doesn\u2019t erase the fact that Garland\u2019s Justice Department had to be forced to take some action against the chronic law-breaker \u2014 but only after it offered a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/defense-attorney-furious-seeing-hunter-biden-plea-deal-client-charge-wont-prison-years\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">sweetheart plea deal<\/a> that was torpedoed by a federal judge with her <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/breaking-hunter-bidens-original-sweetheart-plea-deal-falls-apart-appears-court\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">eye on the ball<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>In fact, a cynic might even suggest that it was the occasion of Hunter\u2019s expected conviction \u2014 how could even a Wilmington, Delaware, jury find him not guilty in the face of evidence that included Hunter\u2019s own autobiography? \u2014 that was behind Garland\u2019s decision to publish the piece. As Hemingway pointed out, the threatening tone was unmistakable.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cContinued unfounded attacks against the Justice Department\u2019s employees are dangerous for people\u2019s safety. They are dangerous for our democracy. This must stop,\u201d Garland wrote.<\/p>\n<p>Coming from a man with the power to use the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/exclusive-prominent-conservative-groups-write-open-letter-to-garland-wray-for-politicizing-doj-under-biden\/\" title=\"Exclusive: Prominent Conservative Groups Write Open Letter To Garland, Wray For \u2018Politicizing\u2019 DOJ Under Biden\">federal justice system<\/a> to pursue individuals for political goals \u2014 and has proven his willingness to use it \u2014 \u201cthis must stop\u201d isn\u2019t simply a simply a wish. It\u2019s an imperative \u2014 with an unspoken \u201cor else\u201d haunting the reader at the end.<\/p>\n<p>Clearly disregarding the threat, plenty of responses focused on the use of the word \u201cunfounded\u201d in both the Post headline and in Garland\u2019s conclusion to describe the accusations that his dishonest and politically biased department is dishonest and politically biased.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">What about all of the founded ones?
