These measures \u2064will not be\u2064 revisited until the Montana legislature reconvenes in January \u20622025.<\/p>\n<p>Amidst \u200cthese\u2063 developments, there is\u2062 ongoing debate and controversy \u2062over noncitizen voting \u200bin the U.S., with some Democrat-controlled cities across the country allowing noncitizens to vote\u200d in \u2062local elections. \u200bThis includes recent \u200clegislative changes\u2063 in places like San \u2063Francisco and\u200b Washington, D.C. Concerns around foreigners illegitimately influencing U.S. elections have sparked significant debate,\u2063 with instances \u2064of noncitizens registering \u200band voting reported in multiple states.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"readmore\">\n    <button onclick=\"showReadMore()\" id=\"readmorebtn\">Read more&#8230;<\/button>\n<\/p>\n<hr id=\"line\">\n<span id=\"more\"><\/p>\n<p><?xml encoding=\"utf-8\" ?><?xml encoding=\"utf-8\" ?><?xml encoding=\"utf-8\" ?><\/p>\n<div class=\"article-content\">\n<p>The Republican-controlled Montana State Legislature rejected a request for a special session to pass legislation strengthening protections against alien voting.<\/p>\n<p>Secretary of State Christi Jacobsen <a href=\"https:\/\/media.sosmt.gov\/secretary-of-states-office-releases-results-of-special-session-polling\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">announced<\/a> on Monday that three separate requests sent to Montana lawmakers for a special legislative session to address various issues, including noncitizen voting, failed to receive enough votes. Montana\u2019s chief lawmaking body only meets during odd-numbered years, meaning legislators are not slated to meet again until January 2025. <\/p>\n<div class=\"fdrlst__b89e9-paragraph-2-long d-flex justify-content-center\" style=\"margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center; \" id=\"fdrlst__b89e9-1519660496\">\n<div id=\"div-gpt-ad-1379703300879-0\" class=\"mb-30\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"fdrlst__b89e9-a0d8569ad48fbaaafd757b8b97c5493b fdrlst__b89e9-paragraph-2\" id=\"fdrlst__b89e9-a0d8569ad48fbaaafd757b8b97c5493b\"><\/div>\n<p>The requests submitted to Jacobsen last month sought to convene lawmakers for a special session in Helena starting on June 24. According to the <a href=\"https:\/\/dailymontanan.com\/2024\/05\/07\/house-speaker-calls-for-a-special-session-on-immigration-marijuana-tax-distribution\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Daily Montanan<\/a>, which is a project of the left-wing media operation States Newsroom, the Secretary of State \u201chas five days to send a poll to legislators asking if they wish to convene a special session,\u201d which requires support from a majority \u2014 at least 76 legislators \u2014 to be called.<\/p>\n<p>In addition to alien voting, the other applications for a special session sought to tackle illegal immigration and marijuana taxation, and state judicial election reform.<\/p>\n<p>Despite <a href=\"https:\/\/ballotpedia.org\/Montana_State_Legislature\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">controlling<\/a> 102 of Montana\u2019s 150 legislative seats, Republicans failed to pass all three requests. The <a href=\"https:\/\/sosmt.gov\/wp-admin\/admin-ajax.php?juwpfisadmin=false&#038;action=wpfd&#038;task=file.download&#038;wpfd_category_id=23&#038;wpfd_file_id=64323&#038;token=9b728d9ea8733d9d856b028cdab59291&#038;preview=1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">application<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ktvh.com\/news\/three-proposals-for-montana-legislative-special-session-fall-short\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">sponsored<\/a> by the Montana Freedom Caucus that aimed to increase safeguards against voting by foreign nationals received support from just 52 lawmakers. The measure received 60 \u201cno\u201d votes, while 38 lawmakers didn\u2019t vote either way.<\/p>\n<p>The proposed constitutional amendment would have <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/MTFreedomCaucus\/status\/1788281457833635951\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">required<\/a> individuals to provide \u201cdocumentary proof of citizenship\u201d to qualify to vote.<\/p>\n<div class=\"fdrlst__b89e9-c8db7200b7aa6a53380b65ad4070721f fdrlst__b89e9-paragraph-6\" id=\"fdrlst__b89e9-c8db7200b7aa6a53380b65ad4070721f\"><\/div>\n<p>Meanwhile, the <a href=\"https:\/\/sosmt.gov\/wp-admin\/admin-ajax.php?juwpfisadmin=false&#038;action=wpfd&#038;task=file.download&#038;wpfd_category_id=23&#038;wpfd_file_id=64322&#038;token=9b728d9ea8733d9d856b028cdab59291&#038;preview=1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">request<\/a> submitted by House Speaker Matt Regier to address illegal immigration and marijuana taxation received 59 votes supporting and 54 opposing. The Daily Inter Lake <a href=\"https:\/\/dailyinterlake.com\/news\/2024\/jun\/11\/special-session-on-immigration-denied-by-state-legislators\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">reported<\/a> that Regier previously indicated legislators \u201cwere drafting a bill modeled after legislation in Texas and Iowa\u201d that \u201clets local law enforcement arrest and deport people in the state illegally.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Regier pledged to bring the bill forward once the legislature reconvenes in January.<\/p>\n<p>The final application rejected by lawmakers sought to advance legislation <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ktvh.com\/news\/three-proposals-for-montana-legislative-special-session-fall-short\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">permitting<\/a> judicial candidates to disclose their party affiliation on the ballot starting this year. Montana judicial races are currently nonpartisan, according to the <a href=\"https:\/\/dailymontanan.com\/2024\/06\/10\/three-republican-calls-for-a-special-legislative-session-fail\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Daily Montanan<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The Treasure State will hold <a href=\"https:\/\/ballotpedia.org\/Montana_Supreme_Court_elections,_2024\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">elections<\/a> for two state Supreme Court races this November. <\/p>\n<div class=\"fdrlst__b89e9-a692ed8265356f8193782d73232b24ca fdrlst__b89e9-paragraph-10\" id=\"fdrlst__b89e9-a692ed8265356f8193782d73232b24ca\"><\/div>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Democrats Push Alien Voting<\/h2>\n<p>Montana Republicans\u2019 failure to call a special session and address alien voting comes amid President Biden\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/tag\/border-invasion\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">manufactured invasion<\/a> at the U.S. southern border and growing concerns that foreign nationals could exploit <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2024\/05\/13\/without-the-save-act-the-only-thing-keeping-foreigners-from-voting-is-the-honor-system\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">existing election loopholes<\/a> to influence America\u2019s electoral system.<\/p>\n<p>While largely dismissed as a non-issue by Democrats and their media allies, aliens finding their way onto <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/georgia-plans-to-cut-100000-names-off-state-voter-rolls-in-major-list-maintenance-effort\/\" title=\"Georgia Plans To Cut 100,000 Names Off State Voter Rolls In \u2018Major List Maintenance Effort\u2019\">state voter rolls<\/a> and casting ballots in U.S. elections is a notable problem. A <a href=\"https:\/\/publicinterestlegal.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/Boston-Noncitizen-Report-2024.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">recent report<\/a> published by the Public Interest Legal Foundation, for instance, unearthed data from Boston, Massachusetts, showing 70 voter registrations were <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/ohio-moves-to-clean-voter-rolls-after-finding-137-foreigners-registered-to-vote\/\" title=\"Ohio Takes Action to Purge Voter Rolls: 137 Foreign Registrations Detected\">recently canceled due<\/a> to a lack of U.S. citizenship. Of those 70 canceled records, 22 had \u201cknown histories of voting.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Similar issues of foreigners illegally registering and voting in U.S. elections have also been <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2024\/02\/22\/report-186-now-removed-arizona-voter-roll-names-were-foreign-nationals\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">identified<\/a> in <a href=\"https:\/\/publicinterestlegal.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/04\/Maricopa-AZ-Noncitizen-Report-2023-FINAL.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">several<\/a> Arizona counties.<\/p>\n<p>Equally alarming is Democrats\u2019 bid to extend voting privileges to foreign nationals in recent years. Democrat-run cities in states such as California and Maryland <a href=\"https:\/\/ballotpedia.org\/Laws_permitting_noncitizens_to_vote_in_the_United_States\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">allow<\/a> aliens to vote in municipal contests. Washington, D.C. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.judicialwatch.org\/documents-reveal-dc-training-noncitizen-voting\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">adopted<\/a> a <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2023\/02\/10\/house-republicans-block-dc-law-that-would-allow-illegal-residents-to-vote\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">similar law<\/a> in 2022.<\/p>\n<p>Blue cities such as San Francisco <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2023\/08\/10\/california-court-greenlights-foreign-interference-in-san-franciscos-school-board-elections\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">permit<\/a> some aliens \u2014 even those who are illegally present \u2014 to vote in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/school-district-tells-principals-to-create-fake-curriculum-to-send-parents-after-complaints-of-indoctrination\/\" title=\"School District Tells Principals To Create Fake Curriculum To Send Parents After Complaints Of Indoctrination\">school board races<\/a>. In San Francisco, foreign nationals can even run elections: In February, the city\u2019s board of supervisors <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2024\/02\/20\/foreign-nationals-arent-just-voting-in-san-francisco-elections-theyre-running-them-too\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">voted<\/a> unanimously to appoint Kelly Wong, a foreign national from Hong Kong, to the city\u2019s Elections Commission. The commission is a \u201cseven-member civilian body that oversees and creates policy for the city\u2019s Department of Elections,\u201d according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kqed.org\/news\/11976026\/san-francisco-appoints-first-non-citizen-to-serve-on-elections-commission\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">local media<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Despite their media acolytes\u2019 best attempts to downplay these matters, Democrats such as Maryland Rep. Jamie Raskin have publicly advocated for granting voting rights to foreign nationals. Fox News <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/politics\/top-dems-past-push-non-citizen-voting-rights-revealed-ahead-house-vote\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">reported<\/a> last month that Raskin authored a <a href=\"https:\/\/digitalcommons.wcl.american.edu\/cgi\/viewcontent.cgi?article=2049&#038;context=facsch_lawrev\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">paper<\/a> for the American University Washington College of Law in 1993, in which he defended \u201cAlien Suffrage.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn this Article, I will argue that the current blanket exclusion of noncitizens from the ballot is neither constitutionally required nor historically normal,\u201d Raskin wrote. \u201cMoreover, the disenfranchisement of aliens at the local level is vulnerable to deep theoretical objections since resident aliens \u2014 who are governed, taxed, and often drafted just like citizens \u2014 have a strong democratic claim to being considered members, indeed citizens, of their local communities.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>As my colleague Matt Kittle <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2024\/05\/24\/yes-democrats-want-aliens-to-vote-in-u-s-elections-take-jamie-raskins-word-for-it\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">noted<\/a>, Raskin was one of 143 Democrats to oppose a recently passed GOP bill prohibiting foreign nationals from voting in D.C. elections. <\/p>\n<\/p>\n<div class=\"fdrlst__b89e9-1632ead8f28bced9576346e7e13c419a fdrlst__b89e9-after-post-content\" id=\"fdrlst__b89e9-1632ead8f28bced9576346e7e13c419a\"><\/div>\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\">    \t\t\t\t\t   \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n<p><\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Republican-led Montana Legislature declined a special session request to enhance laws against noncitizen voting.
