The legislation\u2019s deliberately vague language could also easily be construed to protect surrogacy and experimental <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2023\/05\/17\/worried-about-an-ai-dystopia-the-global-fertility-industry-has-it-beat-by-decades\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">transhumanist<\/a> technologies <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2023\/05\/15\/with-artificial-wombs-sci-fi-horrors-would-become-reality\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">like artificial wombs<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2022\/12\/10\/how-one-scientist-lost-big-trying-to-genetically-enhance-unborn-babies\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">\u201cgene editing,\u201d<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2023\/07\/22\/the-global-fertility-industry-seeks-to-erase-women-from-procreation-one-manufactured-egg-at-a-time\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">the erasure of women in reproduction via in vitro gametogenesis<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Additonally, the bill would make a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.murray.senate.gov\/senators-murray-duckworth-reps-larsen-jacobs-reintroduce-legislation-to-help-veterans-start-their-families-provide-major-expansion-to-covered-fertility-care-services-at-dod-and-va\/#:~:text=The%20Veteran%20Families%20Health%20Service,families%20in%20the%20Armed%20Forces.\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">permanent path<\/a> for taxpayer-funded ART like egg and sperm freezing, IVF, and surrogacy for millions of U.S. servicemembers and veterans.<\/p>\n<p>Thanks to the inclusion of Sen. Cory Booker\u2019s AITCA, insurance companies with employer-sponsored plans that cover obstetrician services would also be forced to use funds they collected from other paying Americans to cover \u201ctreatments or procedures that involve the handling of human egg, sperm, and embryo outside of the body with the intent of facilitating a pregnancy, including in vitro fertilization, egg, embryo, or sperm cryopreservation, egg or embryo donation, and gestational surrogacy.\u201d<\/p>\n<div class=\"fdrlst__b89e9-395406147c1da2b84842be06148c3a37 fdrlst__b89e9-paragraph-6\" id=\"fdrlst__b89e9-395406147c1da2b84842be06148c3a37\"><\/div>\n<p>The addition of Booker\u2019s bill alone not only threatens to <a href=\"https:\/\/reason.com\/2024\/06\/05\/right-to-ivf-act-would-mandate-insurance-coverage-for-ivf-surrogacy-egg-freezing-and-more\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">raise already expensive IVF costs<\/a> but, more importantly, incentivizes the promotion of <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2024\/05\/09\/babies-by-any-means-necessary-wont-fix-the-wests-fertility-woes\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">babies by any means necessary<\/a> above adoption and <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2023\/08\/14\/its-time-to-stop-treating-assisted-reproductive-technology-as-a-quick-fix-for-infertility\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">restorative reproductive treatments<\/a> that <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2024\/03\/25\/what-if-we-can-heal-infertile-women-rather-than-turning-to-expensive-unethical-ivf-treatments-first\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">address the root causes of infertility<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Fundamentally revamping the definition of family, as the ART described in Democrats\u2019 dream IVF package often does, <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2022\/03\/26\/big-fertility-harms-babies-and-women-so-why-are-we-celebrating-it\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">harms both women and babies<\/a> because it <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2022\/07\/25\/as-reproductive-technology-advances-remember-just-because-we-can-doesnt-mean-we-should\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">sacrifices children\u2019s natural right<\/a> to their mother and father to accommodate the desires of adults. It also mandates a host of morally deplorable practices that should deeply disturb and faze Americans, especially those who consider themselves pro-life.<\/p>\n<p>IVF standard practice requires harvesting and fertilizing multiple eggs to increase the chances of successful petri dish conception. Since Americans undergo <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/art\/artdata\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">hundreds of thousands of artificial reproduction cycles each year<\/a>, it\u2019s easy to conclude that countless unborn lives are created through the lab-facilitated joining of gametes, only to be pushed aside due to genetic <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2024\/05\/07\/orchid-healths-genome-testing-promises-healthy-babies-but-delivers-morally-deplorable-eugenics\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">grading<\/a>, discarded, or <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2023\/02\/02\/theres-only-one-way-for-the-1-million-embryos-stuck-in-frozen-orphanages-to-make-it-out-alive-adoption\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">abandoned in freezers<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Data suggests that many of these little lives would have yielded <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/pmc\/articles\/PMC5237322\/\">successful pregnancies<\/a> but were instead discarded based on <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2024\/05\/07\/orchid-healths-genome-testing-promises-healthy-babies-but-delivers-morally-deplorable-eugenics\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">eugenics-y testing<\/a> that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2022\/04\/20\/health\/pgta-ivf-pregnancy-test.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">often yields incorrect results<\/a>. <\/p>\n<div class=\"fdrlst__b89e9-12b801b03b31f24656c4816c493a0276 fdrlst__b89e9-paragraph-10\" id=\"fdrlst__b89e9-12b801b03b31f24656c4816c493a0276\"><\/div>\n<p>Senate Democrats <a href=\"https:\/\/www.murray.senate.gov\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/06\/Right-to-IVF-Act-Summary-1.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">claim to<\/a> \u201cbelieve a core tenant of freedom is being able to decide when and how to begin or expand a family,\u201d which is why they are choosing to pursue a vote on this bill package. But that\u2019s not their only goal. <\/p>\n<p>Sens. Booker, Tammy Duckworth, and Patty Murray\u2019s fierce promotion of ART falls directly in line with their party\u2019s abortion-for-all agenda. The same Democrats touting this legislative package\u00a0under the guise of ill-named \u201creproductive rights\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/wild.house.gov\/media\/press-releases\/rep-wild-again-votes-codify-reproductive-freedom-protect-right-seek-legal\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">voted<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.murray.senate.gov\/murray-baldwin-schumer-blumenthal-lead-45-senators-in-introducing-womens-health-protection-act-to-restore-and-protect-americans-right-to-an-abortion-nationwide\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">in favor<\/a> of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.duckworth.senate.gov\/news\/press-releases\/duckworth-durbin-help-introduce-legislation-to-restore-and-protect-americans-right-to-an-abortion-nationwide\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">codifying<\/a> ending life in the womb through <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2023\/08\/09\/of-course-democrats-support-abortion-on-demand-until-the-moment-of-birth\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">all nine months of pregnancy<\/a> under the same premise.<\/p>\n<p>In fact, the senators <a href=\"https:\/\/www.murray.senate.gov\/murray-duckworth-booker-unveil-sweeping-new-bill-to-establish-a-nationwide-right-to-ivf-and-lower-ivf-costs-for-families-legislation-will-receive-a-vote-in-the-senate-next-week\/#:~:text=Senator%20Murray%20and%20Duckworth's%20Access,to%20cover%20IVF%20without%20prohibition%2C\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">admit<\/a> that their attempt to force ART and its many costs on Americans is explicitly linked to their vitriol for <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/SenatorHick\/status\/1799924422238765244\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">\u201cMAGA Republicans\u201d<\/a> and pro-lifers who \u201ccontinue their state-by-state attacks on reproductive freedom in post-<em>Roe <\/em>America.\u201d Those so-called \u201cattacks,\u201d of course, are the passage of <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2024\/03\/05\/democrats-wont-settle-for-common-sense-restrictions-on-abortion-or-ivf\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">popular lifesaving laws<\/a> that protect both mothers and babies from the harms the abortion industry regularly imposes on them.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s unclear exactly what Republicans will do when presented with a vote on this radical legislative bundle. GOP Sens. Katie Boyd Britt and Ted Cruz both claim to believe life begins at conception but <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2024\/05\/20\/gop-led-bill-protects-ivf-industry-but-not-the-babies-it-routinely-kills\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">have endorsed<\/a> using <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/fcc-commissioner-blasts-democrat-complaint-against-fox-news-affiliate-fcc-is-not-dncs-speech-police\/\" title=\"FCC Commissioner Blasts Democrat Complaint Against Fox News Affiliate: FCC Is Not \u2018DNC\u2019s Speech Police\u2019\">federal force<\/a> to deter states from regulating Big Fertility, which routinely destroys that life. Concerns about the abortion undertones in Democrats\u2019 bills, however, and their GOP colleague\u2019s previous, <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2024\/02\/29\/republican-cindy-hyde-smith-blocks-democrats-radical-ivf-bill-but-whiffs-on-the-why\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">even if misguided<\/a>, rejection of those bills suggests they would do well to shun the latest scheme that would codify the destruction\u00a0and discard of unborn lives.<\/p>\n<p>If the latest Senate IVF package makes one thing clear, it\u2019s this: Democrats are not interested in protecting Americans from being taken advantage of by industries that put profit above all moral and ethical concerns.
