However, the union is currently facing new issues as uncovered by a federal watchdog investigation. The UAW has been under the scrutiny of a federal\u200c monitor, Neil \u200cBarofsky, following a 2020 agreement that prevented a full federal takeover after prolonged criminal probes into union corruption. Barofsky&#8217;s recent findings suggest the UAW is obstructing his investigative efforts by delaying\u2063 the provision of necessary documents, an action\u2062 which potentially violates their agreement. Additionally, Barofsky is looking into accusations of retaliation \u2064by President Fain against\u200b other union leaders, specifically citing a complaint by\u2063 Secretary-Treasurer Margaret Mock \u2062who claims she lost authority for\u2062 resisting \u2062questionable financial\u200d requests \u200cfrom the President\u2019s Office.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"readmore\">\n    <button onclick=\"showReadMore()\" id=\"readmorebtn\">Read more&#8230;<\/button>\n<\/p>\n<hr id=\"line\">\n<span id=\"more\"><\/p>\n<div>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/uaw\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"United Auto Workers\">United Auto Workers<\/a> and the union\u2019s President Shawn Fain scored a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/biden-admin-indefinitely-suspends-trump-tiktok-deal\/\" title=\"Biden Admin \u2018Indefinitely\u2019 Suspends Trump TikTok Deal\">major victory<\/a> with strikes of the Big Three Detroit automakers, but the union has new problems, according to a federal watchdog investigation.<\/p>\n<p>The UAW has been under a federal watchdog as part of a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.freep.com\/story\/money\/cars\/2020\/12\/14\/feds-uaw-union-reform-settlement\/6542358002\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"2020 agreement\">2020 agreement<\/a>, which prevented a full federal takeover, after extended criminal investigations into corruption in the union. A report from court-appointed monitor Neil Barofsky filed in the U.S. District <a href=\"https:\/\/washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/court\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"Court\">Court<\/a> for the Eastern District of Michigan on Monday accused the union of obstructing efforts for the monitor to receive documents, while also saying he is investigating allegations of retaliation by Fain toward other union leaders.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWith more than three months having passed since the inception of the Monitor\u2019s investigation, and only a small fraction of the requested documents produced, the Monitor\u2019s assessment is that the Union\u2019s delay of relevant documents is obstructing and interfering with his access to information needed for his investigative work, and, if left unaddressed, is an apparent violation of the Consent Decree,\u201d Barofsky wrote in the Monday <a href=\"https:\/\/storage.courtlistener.com\/recap\/gov.uscourts.mied.351194\/gov.uscourts.mied.351194.124.0_2.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"filing\">filing<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The claims Barofsky is investigating stem from allegations Secretary-Treasurer Margaret Mock made that she was stripped of her authority for \u201cher refusal or reluctance to authorize certain expenditures of funds at the request of and\/or for the benefit of those in the President\u2019s Office.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>The union\u2019s International Executive Board voted in February to strip her authority after allegations that she had \u201cengaged in misconduct while carrying out her financial oversight responsibilities,\u201d which the monitor is also investigating. Another unnamed member of the board is being investigated over allegations of embezzlement, according to the filing.<\/p>\n<p>Barofsky also noted that the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/marilyn-manson-denies-evan-rachel-woods-abuse-allegations-gets-dropped-from-record-label\/\" title=\"Marilyn Manson Denies Evan Rachel Wood\u2019s Abuse Allegations, Gets Dropped From Record Label\">allegations made<\/a> are currently being investigated and are far from a conclusion.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAt this stage, it is important to emphasize that the allegations are just allegations. They prove nothing in themselves, and nothing in this Report should be construed as reaching any conclusion about possible charges, if any, for suspected misconduct,\u201d Barofsky wrote.<\/p>\n<p>In a statement to the <em>Detroit News<\/em>, Fain said that he \u201cencourages\u201d the monitor to look into the claims, and insisted he would not find any wrongdoing by union leadership.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe encourage the monitor to investigate whatever claims are brought to their office, because we know what they\u2019ll find: a UAW leadership committed to serving the membership, and running a democratic union.
