Douglas Golden<\/span><\/a> <\/span> <span>   June 11, 2024 at 5:44am <\/span> <\/span>  <\/header>\n<section>\n<p>From the looks of things, WNBA players and WNBA fans are at odds regarding the relative value of needless fouls on rookie sensation Caitlin Clark of the Indiana Fever.<\/p>\n<p>From all appearances, many of the league\u2019s other players seem to think that the hostile \u201cWelcome to the WNBA\u201d treatment is perfectly fine. The fans, not so much.<\/p>\n<p>This could potentially be discounted as a mere difference of opinion \u2014 until you realize that Clark is bringing in so many of the new fans <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/wnba-player-throws-caitlin-clark-tantrum-backlash-dirty-foul-bring-table\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">watching the league<\/a>, fans who are paying the salaries of the players not named Caitlin Clark.<\/p>\n<p>The latest controversy involving a foul <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/indiana-fever-coach-warns-wnba-says-caitlin-clark-olympic-snub-controversy-woke-monster\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">on Clark<\/a> came during a Monday game between the Fever and the Connecticut Sun. The Sun, one of the league\u2019s best teams at 10-1, dominated the Fever and notched a 89-72 win that wasn\u2019t even as close as the score may indicate.<\/p>\n<p>Not that this is a surprise \u2014 Clark is one of the few bright spots on a 3-10 Fever team that has taken home the last two No. 1 draft picks and seems in prime position to repeat that feat \u2014 but what did stun some fans at Mohegan Sun Arena in Connecticut was how Clark was treated after a foul from Sun guard DiJonai Carrington.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cClark, who came off a screen, caught the pass and started towards the basket. Carrington was late getting to Clark thanks to the screen by Aliyah Boston, and she bumped Clark,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/sports\/dijonai-carrington-mocks-caitlin-clark-after-fouling-her-gets-booed-home\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Fox News<\/a> reported.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBut Carrington didn\u2019t like the call and thought that Clark exaggerated the foul,\u201d the report noted.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAfter the whistle, Carrington started mocking Clark. Boos came from the crowd while Carrington made the gesture. After practice two days later, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/watch-chennedy-carter-doesnt-regrets-caitlin-clark-shove-getting\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Carter defended the move<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m a competitor, and I\u2019m going to compete no matter who you are, no matter who\u2019s in front of me,\u201d she said. \u201cWe\u2019re getting at it. We\u2019re going back and forth. It\u2019s basketball. It\u2019s all hoops. They're working through it\">play 100 percent hard<\/a> no matter who it is, like I said, or who we\u2019re playing.<\/p>\n<div id=\"firefly-poll-container\">\n<p>Is Caitlin Clark being targeted?<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p>This whole kerfuffle managed to dominate the media cycle for a few days, with sports fans turned off by the league\u2019s rough treatment of its newfound meal ticket, and the predictable wokeistas saying that Clark <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/view-hosts-show-know-sports-know-politics-absurd-take-caitlin-clark-cheap-shot\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">represented white\/straight\/pretty privilege<\/a>, or whatever.<\/p>\n<p>One would have hoped that, once the clueless flibbertigibbets of \u201cThe View\u201d were treating this as a sociopolitical issue, the WNBA would step in and put an end to this. Apparently not.<\/p>\n<p>That being said, the Chennedy Carter effect is apparently subject to dramatically diminishing returns, as DiJonai Carrington found out.<\/p>\n<p>Instead of coming off as a smart-aleck, she ended up drawing boos on her own home court.
