In a response to the House Judiciary Committee, the DOJ stated it found no records of communication between Colangelo and Manhattan DA Alvin Bragg&#8217;s office from January 2021 until Trump&#8217;s conviction date. \u2064Assistant Attorney General Carlos Uriarte clarified that Colangelo joined Bragg\u2019s office independently and his move was unknown to DOJ leadership until it was reported in the media. The issue was raised during a congressional hearing where some members \u200cquestioned the integrity of the judicial \u200bprocess, insinuating that Colangelo&#8217;s move was politically motivated. However, the DOJ maintains that there was no official\u2063 involvement or influence in his transition to the DA\u2019s office.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"readmore\">\n    <button onclick=\"showReadMore()\" id=\"readmorebtn\">Read more&#8230;<\/button>\n<\/p>\n<hr id=\"line\">\n<span id=\"more\"><\/p>\n<div>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/justice-department\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Department of Justice<\/a> is disputing claims that one of its former senior officials coordinated with the Manhattan District Attorney\u2019s Office to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/virginia-judge-kicks-soros-prosecutor-off-case-for-concealing-criminal-records\/\" title=\"Virginia Judge Kicks Soros Prosecutor Off Case for Concealing Criminal Records\">bring felony charges<\/a> against former President <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/donald-trump\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Donald Trump<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>A DOJ spokesman said Tuesday in a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.scribd.com\/document\/741239274\/DOJ-to-Jordan?secret_password=oyRoru7T4VlPl7PbxAY2\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">letter<\/a> obtained by the <em>Washington Examiner<\/em> that it had no records of communication between Alvin Bragg\u2019s office and Matthew Colangelo, who held a senior position at the DOJ until he joined Bragg\u2019s team in December 2022.<\/p>\n<p>The department performed a \u201ccomprehensive search for email communications\u201d from January 2021 through the day Trump was convicted among all employees who work in DOJ leadership, including political appointees of President <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/joe-biden\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"Joe Biden\">Joe Biden<\/a>, said Carlos Uriarte, an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/breaking-antrim-co-forensic-report-bombshell-reveals-dominion-machines-were-set-at-68-05-error-ratemeaning-68-05-of-ballots-could-be-sent-out-for-mass-adjudication-giving-individuals-or-ma\/\" title=\"BREAKING: Antrim Co. This is unsurprising,\u201d Uriarte wrote to the House Judiciary Committee.<\/p>\n<p>He said the search included Colangelo\u2019s email account.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDepartment leadership did not dispatch Mr. Colangelo to the District Attorney\u2019s office, and Department leadership was unaware of his work on the investigation and prosecution involving the former President until it was reported in the news,\u201d Uriarte wrote.<\/p>\n<figure><figcaption>Prosecutors Matthew Colangelo, left, and Susan Hoffinger, right, leave a state office building on Thursday, March 30, 2023, in New York. (AP Photo\/Bebeto Matthews)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The letter comes in response to the committee asking the department in April for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/faa-steps-up-scrutiny-of-boeing-with-calls-for-checks-on-another-737-model\/\" title=\"FAA increases scrutiny of Boeing, demands checks on additional 737 model\">numerous records related<\/a> to Colangelo.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cGiven the perception that the Justice Department is assisting in Bragg\u2019s politicized prosecution, we write to request information and documents related to Mr. Colangelo\u2019s employment,\u201d Chairman Jim Jordan (R-OH) wrote.<\/p>\n<p>The scrutiny of Colangelo continued at a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/whats-next-great-awakening-or-great-reset\/\" title=\"What\u2019s Next? Great Awakening or Great Reset?\">recent congressional hearing<\/a>, during which Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL) commented to Attorney General Merrick Garland on Colangelo\u2019s \u201cremarkable downstream career journey from the U.S. Department of Justice in Washington, D.C., and then pops up in Alvin Bragg\u2019s office to go get Trump.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd you\u2019re saying that\u2019s just a career choice that was made?\u201d Gaetz asked.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI did not dispatch Mr. Colangelo anywhere,\u201d Garland replied.<\/p>\n<p>The attorney general also addressed the claim directly in his opening remarks, saying the \u201cconspiracy theory is an attack on the judicial process itself.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>While DOJ records show no correspondence between Colangelo and Bragg, they do not account for Colangelo\u2019s personal correspondence he would have had with the district attorney during the process of changing jobs.<\/p>\n<p>While Colangelo was overseeing civil litigation at the DOJ, Bragg hired him to help with white-collar prosecutions. Colangelo had little experience in that field, but he had a wealth of knowledge about Trump.<\/p>\n<p>Before working at the DOJ, Colangelo worked for New York Attorney General Letitia James, who investigated Trump for three years before she brought a massive civil lawsuit against Trump and his eponymous real estate company.<\/p>\n<p>During his time in James\u2019s office, Colangelo was involved in Trump\u2019s civil case and led federal initiatives, which involved, at the time, filing lawsuits against the Trump administration, as well as investigating the Trump Foundation.<\/p>\n<p>He also worked in the Obama administration, and the Democratic National Committee paid him twice for \u201cpolitical consulting\u201d in 2018, according to federal records.<\/p>\n<p>Colangelo was heavily involved in the process of bringing charges against Trump in New York, and he delivered the opening statement at Trump\u2019s trial.<\/p>\n<p>Trump, the presumptive Republican presidential nominee, has been at the forefront of the claims that Bragg\u2019s case was a political effort brought by Biden, his lead opponent, though he has shown no evidence of Biden\u2019s involvement in it.<\/p>\n<p>Before Judge Juan Merchan imposed a gag order on Trump that prevented him from talking about prosecutors in New York, Trump pointed to Colangelo as the perceived link between Biden and Bragg.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cRemember this. Colangelo was a DOJ guy. He\u2019s a Biden DOJ guy,\u201d Trump <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/justice\/2940381\/trump-spotlights-democrat-aligned-prosecutors-these-are-all-biden-trials\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">said<\/a>. \u201cWhy is he in the Manhattan DA\u2019s office trying the case?
