The \u2064judge defended\u200b the meeting&#8217;s privacy while Steel argued for the defense&#8217;s right to \u200bbe present, highlighting the critical nature of the\u2064 situation.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"readmore\">\n    <button onclick=\"showReadMore()\" id=\"readmorebtn\">Read more&#8230;<\/button>\n<\/p>\n<hr id=\"line\">\n<span id=\"more\"><\/p>\n<p>The defense attorney for rapper Young Thug was held in contempt of court and arrested in Fulton County, Georgia, on Monday after he refused to reveal information he obtained about an ex parte meeting held in the judge\u2019s chambers between the prosecution and a key witness.<\/p>\n<p>Attorney Brian Steel got into a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/donald-trump-ends-negotiations-with-nancy-pelosi-on-coronavirus-relief\/\" title=\"Donald Trump Ends Negotiations with Nancy Pelosi on Coronavirus Relief\">heated exchange<\/a> with Judge Ural Glanville after Steel revealed information about a private meeting between the judge, the state, and a key witness, 11 Alive <a href=\"https:\/\/www.11alive.com\/article\/news\/crime\/ysl-trial\/young-thug-lawyer-brian-steel-taken-into-custody-held-in-contempt\/85-47a2aceb-0eb7-467a-ae57-30ac94a3a635\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">reported<\/a>. Young Thug, whose real name is Jeffery Williams, is in the middle of what has already been the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ajc.com\/news\/crime\/young-thug-trial-longest-in-georgia-history-started-one-year-ago-today\/RLQKG42ZHFGABLSBUHJ5HBNTZM\/#:~:text=Selecting%20a%20jury%20took%2010,state%20trial%20in%20Georgia's%20history.\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">longest trial<\/a> in Georgia history. Young Thug was indicted with 27 others in the spring of 2022 on allegations that he leads the YSL street gang, which investigators have tied to drug deals, drive-by shootings, and the deaths of at least three people in Atlanta.<\/p>\n<p>Along with gun and drug charges, the rapper was charged with violating Georgia\u2019s Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act (RICO) \u2014 the same charges leveled against former President Donald Trump, who is also being prosecuted in Fulton County.<\/p>\n<p>Steel motioned for a mistrial, telling Judge Glanville that he received information about the ex parte meeting, which means it was done outside of the presence of opposing counsel, excluding the rapper\u2019s defense team. The attorney alleged that during the meeting, the judge and district attorney\u2019s office convinced Kenneth \u201cYSL Woody\u201d Copeland to testify. Copeland was previously held in contempt and arrested after pleading the fifth during testimony last week, but during the ex parte meeting, Copeland allegedly admitted to killing Donovan \u201cNut\u201d Thomas Jr, who was shot and killed in a drive-by shooting.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI need you to tell me how you got the information [about the meeting],\u201d Judge Glanville told Steel. \u201cIf you don\u2019t tell me how you got the information, I\u2019m going to hold you in contempt.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI understand. Steel will serve his jail sentence every weekend for the next 10 weekends, per the judge\u2019s order.
