In an \u200cop-ed \u2062published in \u2063the Washington Post, he detailed\u2064 the severity of\u200b the threats, including a specific threat to an\u2064 FBI facility in \u200cCalifornia that referenced potential violence \u200binduced by dissatisfaction with \u200claw enforcement actions. Garland underscored \u200dthat the \u2062criticism law\u2063 enforcement is currently facing \u200cgoes beyond\u2062 constructive scrutiny and veers into baseless, dangerous territory. He also mentioned that these\u200c attacks are\u200d heightened\u200c by\u2063 misleading statements, such as former President Donald Trump\u2019s \u200dfalse allegations connecting his New York criminal\u200d charges with\u2063 the\u200d DOJ\u2019s supposed cooperation. \u2062Garland emphasized the unfounded and\u200c personal nature of these\u200c accusations, highlighting\u200c their potential to undermine law enforcement integrity and public safety.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"readmore\">\n    <button onclick=\"showReadMore()\" id=\"readmorebtn\">Read more&#8230;<\/button>\n<\/p>\n<hr id=\"line\">\n<span id=\"more\"><\/p>\n<div>\n<p>Attorney General <a href=\"https:\/\/washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/merrick-garland\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>Merrick Garland<\/a> defended federal law enforcement agencies as he stares down a contempt of Congress charge and as conspiracy theories about the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/fbi\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>FBI<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/department-of-justice\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>Department of Justice<\/a> rise. <\/p>\n<p>The country\u2019s top law enforcement official addressed the repeated attacks on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/public-radio-reporter-arrested-for-firebombing-police-cars\/\" title=\"Public Radio \u201cReporter\u201d Arrested For Firebombing Police Cars\">law enforcement officials<\/a> and agencies, which he believes are born out of conspiracy theories, in an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/opinions\/2024\/06\/11\/merrick-garland-justice-department-threats-fbi-2024\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>op-ed<\/a> published in the <em>Washington Post<\/em>. He began his defense of the agency by citing a threat against an FBI facility in California in which a man wrote, \u201cI can go on a mass murder spree. In fact, it would be very explainable by your actions.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn recent weeks, we have seen an escalation of attacks that go far beyond public scrutiny, criticism, and legitimate and necessary oversight of our work,\u201d Garland wrote. \u201cThey are baseless, personal and dangerous.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Garland referenced the attacks on law enforcement agencies in the recent context of former President Donald Trump\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2024\/05\/31\/politics\/fact-check-trump-post-conviction-speech\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>repeated false claims<\/a> that the criminal charges brought upon him in his New York hush money case were made in conjunction with the DOJ. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey come in the form of conspiracy theories crafted and spread for the purpose of undermining public trust in the judicial process itself,\u201d Garland wrote. \u201cThose include false claims that a case brought by a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/grand-jury-indicts-school-board-members-for-alleged-secret-discussions-about-racial-agenda\/\" title=\"Grand Jury Indicts School Board Members For Alleged Secret Discussions About Racial Agenda\">local district attorney<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/politics\/2024\/05\/30\/trump-guilty-verdict-hush-money-trial\/?itid=lk_inline_manual_10\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>resolved by a jury verdict<\/a> in a state trial was somehow controlled by the Justice Department.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He said those working in law enforcement \u201cwill not be intimidated by these attacks\u201d and that it is \u201cabsurd and dangerous that public servants\u201d are \u201cbeing threatened for simply doing their jobs.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The op-ed comes as the House is set to vote on holding Garland in contempt of Congress for failing to comply with the House Judiciary Committee\u2019s subpoena to release audio tapes of President Joe Biden\u2019s interview with then-special counsel Robert Hur. <\/p>\n<p>He said the Justice Department \u201cmakes decisions about criminal investigations based only on the facts and the law\u201d and does not investigate people \u201cbecause of their last name, their political affiliation, the size of their bank account, where they come from or what they look like.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe investigate and prosecute violations of federal law \u2014 nothing more, nothing less,\u201d Garland wrote.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/washingtonexaminer.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title><strong>CLICK HERE TO READ MORE FROM THE WASHINGTON EXAMINER<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p>He said attacks based on \u201cconspiracy theories, falsehoods, violence and threats of violence to affect political outcomes\u201d on agencies such as the DOJ are \u201cnot normal\u201d and that \u201cthe short-term political benefits of those tactics will never make up for the long-term cost to our country.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cContinued unfounded attacks against the Justice Department\u2019s employees are dangerous for people\u2019s safety,\u201d Garland wrote. \u201cThey are dangerous for our democracy.
