Not long after, French penned an op-ed for the New York Times expressing his distress over being &#8220;canceled&#8221; by his former church, \u200dattributing the rejection to his political and racial \u200bviews, especially following his adoption of a child from Ethiopia and \u2062the rise \u200cof Donald Trump. These experiences, he feels, exposed underlying racism within \u2064the church and shifted\u2063 its political climate,\u2062 which he believes had remained neutral during his earlier years \u2062of membership.<\/p>\n<p>French\u2019s stance is that his personal, principially driven\u2062 disapproval of Trump drew unwarranted backlash that aligns with broader societal and cultural shifts he observes as being rooted\u200b in the actions and policies of the Obama administration, which\u2063 he claims stoked division\u2062 and policy extremism. He equates the reaction to his views to\u2063 a wider pattern of weaponized federal power \u2064and societal polarization stemming from that era, suggesting that Trump\u2019s presidency \u2064was a\u200c reactionary phenomenon rather\u200b than a cause of existing tensions.<\/p>\n<p>He critiques the perceived hypocrisy within the church,\u2064 mentioning personal threats and broader \u2062societal\u2063 hostility \u200ctowards \u2062individuals like him. French defends his\u200c perspectives and actions by placing \u2062them within the\u2064 context of his legal \u2063and political work, citing his principles of neutrality, fairness, and justice as guided by his courtroom experiences. Weeks after having his panel on polarization yanked from the Presbyterian Church in America\u2019s (PCA) General Assembly <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2024\/05\/10\/presbyterian-church-in-america-invites-professional-polarizer-david-french-to-lecture-christians-on-getting-along\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">over his well-documented character assassinations of faithful Christians<\/a>, French wrote a New York Times <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2024\/06\/09\/opinion\/presbyterian-church-evangelical-canceled.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">op-ed<\/a> bemoaning that his \u201cold church canceled\u201d him and made him \u201csad.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Then he <a href=\"https:\/\/www.msnbc.com\/morning-joe\/watch\/-there-will-be-people-who-come-after-you-david-french-on-not-supporting-trump-being-canceled-by-his-church-212635205724\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">went on MSNBC<\/a> and specifically \u201cMorning Joe,\u201d a network that <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/DaveBondyTV\/status\/1761056895773622671\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">routinely<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nationalreview.com\/2018\/03\/larry-kudlow-msnbc-stephanie-ruhle-mocks-christian-faith\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">mocks<\/a> Christians, to double down on his smear campaign and legitimize a bunch of republic-destroying lawfare because the target is Donald Trump.<\/p>\n<div class=\"fdrlst__b89e9-paragraph-2-long d-flex justify-content-center\" style=\"margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center; \" id=\"fdrlst__b89e9-1895198491\">\n<div id=\"div-gpt-ad-1379703300879-0\" class=\"mb-30\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"fdrlst__b89e9-d19452f6b4ce2ca5780d6d018a65ce10 fdrlst__b89e9-paragraph-2\" id=\"fdrlst__b89e9-d19452f6b4ce2ca5780d6d018a65ce10\"><\/div>\n<p>So to recap, David French voluntarily and very publicly left the PCA because it was teeming with racists. But he wasn\u2019t <em>so bothered<\/em> by it that he could resist returning to the denomination\u2019s primary meeting to lecture on \u201cpolarization.\u201d Then he was uninvited thanks to astute Christians quoting French\u2019s own polarizing words.<\/p>\n<p>But David French is the victim? OK. <\/p>\n<p>He \u201ccanceled\u201d the PCA and its evil white members long before they \u201ccanceled\u201d him.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Dissecting French\u2019s Latest Delusion<\/h2>\n<p>French doesn\u2019t name me in his self-obsessed screed, but I\u2019m clearly the subject of his ire. The \u201cprofessional polarizer\u201d links to my <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2024\/05\/10\/presbyterian-church-in-america-invites-professional-polarizer-david-french-to-lecture-christians-on-getting-along\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">article<\/a> on the subject twice, once calling it \u201cmisleading\u201d but without naming anything I got wrong \u2014 probably because he can\u2019t. Every nasty thing he\u2019s ever written about white evangelicals is public.<\/p>\n<div class=\"fdrlst__b89e9-6cfeb9f3837bd510fb1c348e11719d1a fdrlst__b89e9-paragraph-6\" id=\"fdrlst__b89e9-6cfeb9f3837bd510fb1c348e11719d1a\"><\/div>\n<p>In his latest installment, French recaps how \u201capolitical\u201d the PCA was when he and his wife joined it in 2004 through 2007 when he deployed (<a href=\"https:\/\/crisismagazine.com\/opinion\/the-uncivil-civility-of-david-french\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">he can\u2019t help himself<\/a>). Then everything changed. This is the crux of his piece: <\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>Two things happened that changed our lives, however, and in hindsight they\u2019re related. First, in 2010, we adopted a 2-year-old girl from Ethiopia. Second, in 2015, Donald Trump announced his presidential campaign.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>In other words, the religious and political landscape changed when \u201cTrump\u2019s rise\u201d drew racists out of the evangelical woodwork, and principled David French, who just so happened to detest Donald Trump and made his living demonizing Trump\u2019s supporters, couldn\u2019t abide it.<\/p>\n<p>This is absurd.<\/p>\n<p>First, it\u2019s either intellectually dishonest or completely delusional to ignore the actual catalyst that changed American politics during the period French identifies \u2014 and, in fact, birthed the Trump years. And no, it\u2019s not the French family\u2019s skin color nor sleeper racists inside the church who were just waiting for a \u201cCelebrity Apprentice\u201d president to make their move.<\/p>\n<div class=\"fdrlst__b89e9-3908fc55bbd58f22d986e1c5b94a8c40 fdrlst__b89e9-paragraph-10\" id=\"fdrlst__b89e9-3908fc55bbd58f22d986e1c5b94a8c40\"><\/div>\n<p>It was the Barack Obama years \u2014 a Rubicon-crossing era masked by smooth rhetoric, disdain for marriage, promotion of on-demand abortion, attacks on Christian consciences, the targeting of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/accomplice-of-woman-behind-irs-targeting-the-tea-party-selected-to-run-new-irs-centralized-office-for-87000-agents\/\" title=\"Accomplice of Woman Behind IRS Targeting the Tea Party Selected to Run New IRS Centralized Office for 87,000 Agents\">conservative political groups<\/a> and their donors, the demonization of firearms, illegal power grabs to advance unlawful immigration, the introduction of campus kangaroo courts, the regular embrace of racism and antisemitism, and much, much more. <\/p>\n<p>Besides Obama\u2019s slick <a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.com\/story\/2015\/06\/white-house-set-aglow-with-rainbow-pride-119490\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">celebration of immorality<\/a> and gaslighting of anyone who \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/politics\/obama-controversy-infamous-bitter-comments-small-town-americans-still-nags-me\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">bitterly clung<\/a>\u201d to social norms and biblical tradition, there was no going back after his egregious weaponization of the federal government against his political opponents, including secret spying on Republicans. Trump was the equal and opposite reaction to all of that, no matter what French says.<\/p>\n<p>Second, French demonstrates he is so absorbed with his own personal melodrama and accolades that he can\u2019t possibly understand any other perspective.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s been this way for years \u2014 always and everywhere only about David\u00a0French. The courtroom and political magazines have always been the proper venue for culture war issues because that\u2019s where French operates. Neutrality should always be our legal and political preference because neutrality is the natural state of the courtroom, which \u2014 if you haven\u2019t heard \u2014 is where David\u00a0French\u00a0worked. The Iraq War couldn\u2019t have been a mistake because David French was such an integral part of it.\u00a0And Trump can\u2019t be credited with any victory because French deemed the former president beneath contempt.<\/p>\n<p>Now he\u2019s doing the same thing in tarnishing the church\u2019s reputation, emphasizing that he\u2019s \u201cbeen the target of intense attacks online and in real life.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Now, lest French or anyone else accuse me of racism, it should go without saying that any attacks on a person\u2019s <em>Imago Dei<\/em> child, including those based on skin color or heritage, are despicable. It\u2019s wrong for trolls to exploit children and deploy threats, whether via direct message or in person.<\/p>\n<p>But French is insane if he thinks he\u2019s the subject of unique threats, that these threats originate from the church, or that they\u2019re a defining characteristic of Trumpers. For just one example, look at who attacked another white mother of a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/biden-education-official-democracy-fatphobia-based-on-white-supremacy\/\" title=\"Biden Education Official: Democracy, Fatphobia Based on White Supremacy\">black adopted child<\/a>, Trump-nominated Supreme Court Justice Amy Coney Barrett.<\/p>\n<p>Most people don\u2019t feel the need to compulsively victimize themselves as French does, but since he went there, I guess I\u2019ll bite: I don\u2019t have half David French\u2019s platform, but my life has still been threatened by left-wing nutjobs, something nearly all my colleagues can say as well. Threats and hate mail are an occupational hazard of public figures.<\/p>\n<p>Additionally, I receive assaults on my faith, vulgar comments on my posts, and trolling of unsuspecting family and friends. And of course, some confrontations happen in real life or from people you know personally. It\u2019s ridiculous, however, to view political and religious metanarratives through the lens of a few cynical anecdotes or DMs \u2014 especially when most people don\u2019t live and breathe your Twitter feed, as French knows.<\/p>\n<p>After earlier writing, \u201cWhen I deployed to Iraq in 2007, the entire church rallied to support my family and to support the men I served with,\u201d French writes this near the end of his piece:<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>I do not want to paint with too broad a brush. Our pastors and close friends continued to stand with us. Our church disciplined the man who confronted me about Trump during communion. And most church members didn\u2019t follow politics closely and had no idea about any of the attacks we faced.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>You don\u2019t say. You mean more people offered support when you publicly deployed than when you <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/after-calling-them-racist-david-french-accuses-christians-of-canceling-him\/\" title=\"David French Claims Christians are 'Canceling' Him After He Called Them Racist\">privately received nasty social media messages<\/a> and one-on-one attacks? Does this guy have an editor?<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Pure Projection<\/h2>\n<p>It\u2019s even clearer now than when French\u2019s PCA panel was announced that my diagnosis was correct. French is a turncoat and a party apparatchik whose alleged principles seem to line up perfectly with his paychecks.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s not my job to judge the authenticity of French\u2019s faith. But when, of the PCA\u2019s General Assemby, he says he\u2019s \u201cnow deemed too divisive to speak to a gathering of Christians who share [his] faith,\u201d I wonder whether he means those nonwhite, enlightened parishioners who share his hatred for Trump or the untouchables he thinks are neo-Confederates.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf you dissent [from particular pro-Trump arguments], yeah, there will be people in the church who still love you and support you and respect you, but there will be people who come after you,\u201d French <a href=\"https:\/\/www.msnbc.com\/morning-joe\/watch\/-there-will-be-people-who-come-after-you-david-french-on-not-supporting-trump-being-canceled-by-his-church-212635205724\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">told<\/a> Mika Brzezinski and race-baiter Al Sharpton on MSNBC Monday morning. <\/p>\n<p>Never forget he went after them first.<\/p>\n<div class=\"fdrlst__b89e9-cdaef0eaa12f53f612f875b55d9658ed fdrlst__b89e9-after-post-content\" id=\"fdrlst__b89e9-cdaef0eaa12f53f612f875b55d9658ed\"><\/div>\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\">    \t\t\t\t\t   \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n<p><\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>David French, recently removed from a Presbyterian Church in America panel due to his controversial critiques of Christians, expressed his dismay in a New York Times op-ed, claiming his &#8220;old church canceled&#8221; him.
