During his testimony, Uribe \u200ddisclosed that he had approached Senator Menendez, asking\u2062 if there\u2063 was anything \u200cwithin\u200b his power to halt the investigation, with Menendez agreeing to look into the matter.<\/p>\n<p>Uribe also shared that he had made several payments for a convertible car, owned \u2063by Menendez\u2019s wife, \u2063Nadine, although he claimed never to have\u200b discussed these payments directly with Senator Menendez. Bob Menendez<\/a> (D-NJ) directly for his help in making an insurance fraud investigation of a friend go away.<\/p>\n<p>Uribe,\u00a0the prosecution\u2019s star witness in Menendez\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/crime\/3001819\/bob-menendez-corruption-trial-everything-to-know\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"federal bribery and corruption trial\">federal bribery and corruption trial<\/a> in Manhattan, told jurors he asked the Democratic <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/3005512\/prosecutors-bob-menendez-power-for-sale-bribery-trial\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"senator\">senator<\/a> to do \u201canything in his power\u201d to\u00a0stop the inquiry into a woman he considered to be like a daughter and that Menendez said he would \u201clook into it.\u201d <\/p>\n<figure><figcaption>Jose Uribe leaves Manhattan federal court, Friday, June 7, 2024, in New York. (AP Photo\/Adam Gray)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cI asked him to help me get peace for me and my family,\u201d Uribe said, adding that it was the fifth time he had met the senator but the first time he had brought up asking him for help. <\/p>\n<p>Uribe said he never discussed the thousands of dollars he made in car payments for a convertible for Menendez\u2019s wife, Nadine. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cI never talked to Mr. Menendez about making payments for the car,\u201d Uribe said. <\/p>\n<p>He added that he assumed Menendez knew he was financially helping his wife because she had been trying to set up a meeting between them so Uribe could ask him to block the state investigation, the <em>New York Times <\/em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2024\/06\/10\/nyregion\/robert-menendez-bribery-trial.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"reported\">reported<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe only reason why she\u2019s trying is I\u2019m complying with my part of the deal,\u201d Uribe said. <\/p>\n<p>He added that he told Nadine Menendez, \u201cIf your problem is a car, my problem is saving my family,\u201d before giving her $15,000 in cash to make a down payment. <\/p>\n<p>Uribe has pleaded guilty to multiple state and federal crimes linked to his businesses. He is scheduled to be sentenced Friday. <\/p>\n<p>Prosecutors have spent the past four weeks trying to piece together what they claim is a sprawling, yearslong <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/crime\/3001819\/bob-menendez-corruption-trial-everything-to-know\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">bribery scheme<\/a> by the Menendezs. <\/p>\n<p>Uribe testified Friday that his friend <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/3008005\/bob-menendez-bribery-trial-key-players\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Wael Hana<\/a>, a co-defendant in the trial, told him in early 2018 that there were <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/star-witness-in-bob-menendez-bribery-trial-testifies-he-offered-senators-wife-a-car\/\" title=\"Key witness in Bob Menendez bribery case claims he proposed a car for senator's wife\">multiple state criminal investigations swirling<\/a>\u00a0around the trucking company of a friend of his as well as his own insurance business. Hana allegedly said he could make those\u00a0investigations disappear if Uribe was willing to spend $200,000 to $250,000. Uribe agreed. Hana told Uribe he would go to Nadine Menendez, who went by Nadine Arslanian at the time and had started dating the senator, to make the deal. <\/p>\n<figure><figcaption>Nadine Menendez and Sen. There was no mention of the backroom deal at the party or afterparty, both of which the senator attended.<\/p>\n<p>Later that year, an investigator from the attorney general\u2019s office asked to interview one of Uribe\u2019s employees. Uribe testified he was \u201cnot happy\u201d and texted Hana\u00a0to get the senator to intervene in the\u00a0investigations.\u00a0Hana set up an October 2018 dinner meeting, but there was no mention of the deal. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cNothing was discussed there of value, I will say,\u201d Uribe testified. \u201cIt was a pointless, a pointless meeting.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Uribe said he began communicating directly with Arslanian in March 2019 and promised that he would buy her a car if she delivered on the deal. <\/p>\n<p>Bob Menendez has been charged with bribery, fraud, extortion, obstruction of justice, and acting as a foreign agent of Egypt.
