Jacky Rosen (D-NV), <a href=\"https:\/\/www.2news.com\/news\/sen-rosen-propels-abortion-rights-petition\/article_f6dfb644-0434-11ef-8a5e-6b26682fa65d.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>are fighting<\/a> to expand Nevada\u2019s current law, which allows abortion at 24 weeks. The ballot measure would legalize abortions after the point of fetal viability, when the baby is able to survive outside the womb. According to some <a href=\"https:\/\/www.babycenter.com\/baby\/premature-babies\/when-can-my-baby-survive-outside-the-womb_10419991\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>medical professionals<\/a>, that point is now around 22 weeks.<\/p>\n<figure><figcaption>Sen. (AP Photo\/Ty ONeil)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Caroline Sanchez-Avakian, the Ballot Initiative Strategy Center\u2019s director of strategic communications, told the <em>Washington Examiner<\/em> the measure would ensure \u201ca fundamental, individual right to abortion\u201d while allowing Nevada to regulate the \u201cprovision of abortion after fetal viability \u2026 except where necessary to protect the life or health of the pregnant individual.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>Despite polls showing that issues such as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/campaigns\/3020236\/nevadans-housing-woes-death-knell-biden-swing-state\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>housing affordability and inflation<\/a> are top of mind for voters, Democrats continue to wield the abortion debate in Nevada as they aim to defend vulnerable seats across the Silver State. Reproductive Freedom for All, an abortion rights organization, is focusing on Nevada as part of an effort to target battleground states this cycle.<\/p>\n<p>One of Nevada\u2019s most competitive races is the battle shaping up between Rosen and Sam Brown, the Republican front-runner to challenge Rosen for her Senate seat.\u00a0Rosen, a vulnerable incumbent Democrat, has <a href=\"https:\/\/thenevadaindependent.com\/article\/as-wife-discloses-abortion-story-nevada-gop-senate-hopeful-sam-brown-opposes-federal-ban\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>called<\/a> Brown \u201ca direct threat to Nevadans\u2019 reproductive freedom\u201d as she battles to keep her Senate seat. <\/p>\n<p>Brown and his wife have attracted national attention for sharing their personal experience with abortion. In February, Amy Brown shared during an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcnews.com\/politics\/2024-election\/sam-amy-brown-abortion-nevada-gop-republican-senate-race-rcna136826\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>interview<\/a> with NBC that she felt pressured by healthcare providers into having an abortion in 2008. Amy Brown said the healthcare industry didn\u2019t walk her through alternative options and that she didn\u2019t have the support system she needed to make an informed decision.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen I made my choice, [to have an abortion] I was under the impression that I was choosing freedom,\u201d she said. \u201cBut I did not receive freedom. It should be building advocacy and increasing support for women before, during, and after pregnancy.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Sam Brown agreed, saying: \u201cAmy, to me, is just a really personal example that what we hear, whether it\u2019s out of\u00a0politicians \u2026 is\u00a0missing the point that there is at least a woman who is really going through something that might just be one of the most challenging things in her life.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>Sam Brown signaled he\u2019s taking a more holistic approach to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/2024-republican-candidates-finally-show-their-cards-on-where-they-stand-on-abortion-rights\/\" title=\"2024 GOP candidates reveal stance on abortion rights\">anti-abortion issues<\/a> than some in the GOP. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cShame on us if we allow the narratives and the positioning to miss the fact that she is doing that alone.
