The article suggests \u200dthat what started as a health-awareness \u2062initiative morphed into a politically charged bill, potentially \u200dcompromising \u200belectoral\u200b integrity in Illinois.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"readmore\">\n    <button onclick=\"showReadMore()\" id=\"readmorebtn\">Read more&#8230;<\/button>\n<\/p>\n<hr id=\"line\">\n<span id=\"more\"><\/p>\n<header> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/commentary\/\">  Commentary <\/a>  <\/p>\n<h2>&#8216;Crohn&#8217;s and Colitis Awareness&#8217; Bill Gutted, Restructured to Codify Vote-by-Mail Without Poll Watcher Oversight<\/h2>\n<p> <span> <\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/author\/maustin\/\">  <\/a> <\/p>\n<p> <span>   By <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/author\/maustin\/%20\"><span>Michael Austin<\/span><\/a> <\/span> <span>   June 10, 2024 at 9:08am <\/span> <\/span>  <\/header>\n<section>\n<p>With the current state of U.S. politics, you can never trust lawmakers (state or otherwise) to be straightforward.<\/p>\n<p>Even when you think they\u2019re passing a bill as innocuous as a codified remembrance of a disease, there\u2019s more than likely a hidden agenda at play.<\/p>\n<p>This is exactly what happened in the Illinois State House this past week.<\/p>\n<p>On Thursday, the \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ilga.gov\/legislation\/billstatus.asp?DocNum=4488&#038;GAID=17&#038;GA=103&#038;DocTypeID=HB&#038;LegID=151614&#038;SessionID=112\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Crohn\u2019s and Colitis Awareness<\/a>\u201d bill, originally conceived as establishing a remembrance week for Crohn\u2019s disease and ulcerative colitis, hit the desk of Illinois Gov. J.B. Pritzker, a Democrat.<\/p>\n<p>What was introduced as a straightforward bill by three state Democrats, however, was later contorted by other Democrats into anything but.<\/p>\n<p>An amendment to the bill turned it into a vehicle for vote-by-mail by affixing the \u201cUniform Faithful Presidential Electors Act.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Among many other alterations, that allows for \u201cphysically incapacitated\u201d electors to vote by mail after filling out an application \u201cno later than 5 days before the regular primary.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>According to <a href=\"https:\/\/justthenews.com\/nation\/states\/center-square\/bill-allowing-permanent-nursing-home-mail-voting-awaits-pritzkers\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Just the News<\/a>, Democratic state Rep. Maurice West was behind the amendment.<\/p>\n<p>Remember all the strange and seemingly irresponsible voting exceptions allowed during the 2020 election, which just so happened to end with the election of President <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/house-oversight-chairman-puts-joe-biden-notice-issuing-criminal-referrals-hunter-james-biden\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Joe Biden<\/a>?<\/p>\n<div id=\"firefly-poll-container\">\n<p>Will there be <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/in-nevada-a-corrupt-cash-for-votes-scheme-is-hiding-in-plain-sight\/\" title=\"In Nevada, A Corrupt Cash-For-Votes Scheme Is Hiding In Plain Sight\">widespread voter fraud<\/a> in this fall\u2019s elections?<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Well, West hopes to codify one such exception into law permanently \u2014 at least in Illinois.<\/p>\n<p>His amendment would allow nursing home voters to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/why-both-republicans-and-democrats-are-wrong-about-bill-barr\/\" title=\"Why Both Republicans And Democrats Are Wrong About Bill Barr\">legally cast ballots<\/a> via mail.<\/p>\n<p>What was once a temporary, emergency COVID-19 procedure might become a permanent practice in the state, if West gets his way.<\/p>\n<p>Republicans can see through the charade, thankfully.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere have been some concerns that there won\u2019t be poll watchers there if these ballots are mailed in versus the voting effort at the nursing home, and there\u2019s some concerns about the transparency of that process. Why did we add that [nursing home voters can now vote by mail]?\u201d state Rep. Patrick Windhorst said of the bill on the House floor, according to Just the News.<\/p>\n<p>Ballot harvesters have used such laws in the past to take advantage of the elderly.<\/p>\n<p>For example, a nurse in Center Line, Michigan, was convicted of misdemeanor charges for forging nursing home residents\u2019 signatures on absentee ballots in the 2020 election, according to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.freep.com\/story\/news\/local\/michigan\/macomb\/2022\/02\/24\/nursing-home-worker-forged-signatures-absentee-ballots\/6928184001\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Detroit Free Press<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The U.S. still hasn\u2019t quite recovered from the fallout of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/virginia-county-finds-biden-trump-received-incorrect-number-votes-2020-election\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">2020 election<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Purportedly temporary election laws and procedures (as if government-grabbed power can ever be temporary) sowed severe distrust in our democratic system.<\/p>\n<p>If that trust is ever going to be restored, we need to put more <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/report-early-voting-locations-north-carolina-illegally-favor-1-party\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">voting<\/a> integrity protections on the books, not fewer.<\/p>\n<p>Unfortunately, it appears Democrats will continue to do everything in their power to achieve the opposite \u2014 perhaps not coincidentally at the very same time that they allow <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/facebook-used-facilitate-illegal-immigrants-infiltration-us-border-crossing-fake-work-credentials-report\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">a flood of illegal aliens<\/a> to cross over the border.<\/p>\n<hr>\n<div>\n<p><b><i>A Note from Our Deputy Managing Editor:<\/i><\/b><\/p>\n<p><i><span>I heard a chilling comment the other day: \u201cWe don\u2019t even know if an election will be held in 2024.\u201d <\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p><i><span>That wasn\u2019t said by a conspiracy theorist or a doomsday prophet.
