Gerry Connolly (D-VA) said Sunday that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/europe\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>Europeans<\/a> are \u201canxious\u201d about a potential second presidency by former President <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/donald-trump\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>Donald Trump<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Connolly was asked about <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/world\/3033706\/tom-cotton-cites-bidens-handling-of-foreign-affairs-for-lack-of-global-peace\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>recent comments made by Sen. Tom Cotton<\/a> (R-AR), who said that making Trump president again would help end <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/war-in-ukraine\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>the war between Russia and Ukraine<\/a>, as well as the war in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/gaza\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>Gaza<\/a>. The Virginia lawmaker pushed back against Cotton\u2019s assessment, arguing that Europeans are afraid of another Trump presidency.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI have been very involved in NATO, in the Parliamentary Assembly, the legislative arm of NATO, for the last decade-plus, and I can tell you I have never seen Europeans as anxious about American politics as they are right now,\u201d Connolly said. \u201cEverything\u2019s at stake.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Connolly added that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/nato\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>NATO<\/a> has been effective amid the war in Ukraine, as Russia has not attacked other nations that are a part of the alliance. He then stated that questioning the effectiveness of NATO is \u201creally reckless.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The congressman was also asked about the recent European Union elections, which saw <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/world\/3033830\/right-wing-parties-make-major-gains-in-european-union-elections\/?fbclid=IwZXh0bgNhZW0CMTEAAR3Y4PoOnN1Bl9Pr1n1DrnOhWmHHI4r63Q_elbi3b9xupnktniLA3Np6M1o_aem_AS_vB3ksOBVNH-zYNkCqTjOyLqrsaUS-beO6oFyMX-TlflCD8x1ytFgE9HEUVt0wALtTWOQxJtT6KZ1tWJh8V1U6\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>right-wing parties experience several major victories<\/a>.
