This comes\u200c closely after another case was confirmed in\u2063 O\u2019Brien County earlier in the\u2063 week. \u2062Secretary Naig emphasized the serious threat the influenza \u2063poses to livestock\u2063 and the livelihood of\u200d farmers, \u2064stating that \u2063the\u200c department is enhancing its \u2063<a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/biden-signs-executive-order-aimed-at-improving-the-federal-governments-cybersecurity-defenses\/\" title=\"Biden Signs Executive Order Aimed At Improving The Federal Government\u2019s Cybersecurity Defenses\">response measures<\/a> and requesting additional\u200d resources \u200bfrom the USDA.\u2063 He \u2064highlighted\u2063 the collaborative efforts and ongoing\u200d communication\u2064 with USDA, \u200cother states, farm organizations, and industry stakeholders to continuously adapt their response strategies\u2063 as \u2064the situation develops. A case in O\u2019Brien County was reported earlier this week.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHighly Pathogenic Avian Influenza continues to pose a significant threat to our livestock and the livelihoods of the farmers that care for them. To better prepare and respond to this challenge, the department is taking additional response measures and is making additional resource requests of USDA in order to support this ongoing and collaborative effort,\u201d Naig said. \u201cOur team remains in daily communication with USDA, other states, farm organizations and industry stakeholders and we will be continually evaluating our response steps as new information arises. This is going to take the entire agricultural community working together because we all have a stake in protecting the herds and flocks of Iowa.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>HPIA has also been found in a turkey flock and a flock of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/elder-no-wonder-why-people-and-businesses-are-dumping-california\/\" title=\"ELDER: No Wonder Why People And Businesses Are Dumping California\">egg-laying chickens<\/a> in Iowa.<\/p>\n<p>Naig is asking the USDA to compensate dairy farmers for lost milk production at a minimum of 90% fair market value, to revise poultry indemnity tables to reflect the fair market value of impacted birds or eggs and to streamline the process to compensate farmers, he said in a news release.<\/p>\n<p>The state is authorizing additional epidemiological strike teams and accelerating research funding. The plan is to test dairy cows where HPIA is detected in poultry, according to the department.<\/p>\n<p>The outbreaks are not a concern for the food supply, but consumers are advised to properly cook eggs and chicken.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere is no concern about the safety of pasteurized milk or <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/white-house-releases-list-of-president-trumps-accomplishments-and-it-is-historic\/\" title=\"White House Releases List of President Trump\u2019s Accomplishments \u2013  And It Is Historic!\">dairy products<\/a>,\u2019 the department said in a news release. \u201cPasteurization has continually proven to successfully inactivate bacteria and viruses, like influenza, in milk.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Gov. Additionally, last week I sent a letter to Sec. Vilsack urging the USDA to prioritize and expedite the approval process for animal vaccines designed to combat diseases threatening the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/obamas-longest-serving-cabinet-member-confirmed-to-bidens-cabinet\/\" title=\"Obama\u2019s Longest-Serving Cabinet Member Confirmed To Biden\u2019s Cabinet\">agriculture industry<\/a>.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Iowa is the tenth state to report HPIA in cattle.
