This article reflects her \u2063views and\u200c not those of the organizations with which  <\/p>\n<p class=\"readmore\">\n    <button onclick=\"showReadMore()\" id=\"readmorebtn\">Read more&#8230;<\/button>\n<\/p>\n<hr id=\"line\">\n<span id=\"more\"><\/p>\n<p><?xml encoding=\"utf-8\" ?><?xml encoding=\"utf-8\" ?><?xml encoding=\"utf-8\" ?><\/p>\n<div class=\"article-content\">\n<p>One of the most comical headlines that came out of Anthony Fauci\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbs.org\/newshour\/politics\/watch-live-fauci-testifies-on-covid-19-origins-and-response-in-gop-led-house-hearing\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">testimony<\/a> before Congress on Monday, in which he confirmed that there was <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2024\/06\/04\/fauci-admits-there-was-no-scientific-evidence-for-six-foot-social-distancing-rule\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">no scientific evidence for the six<a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/white-house-covid-czar-admits-6-foot-social-distancing-rule-not-the-right-way\/\" title=\"White House COVID Czar Admits 6-foot Social Distancing Rule \u2018Not the Right Way\u2019\">-foot social distancing rule<\/a><\/a>, was this gem by Dan Diamond for The Washington Post: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/health\/2024\/06\/02\/six-foot-rule-covid-no-science\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">\u201cIn the pandemic, we were told to keep six feet apart. There\u2019s no science to support that.\u201d<\/a> Well, fancy that.<\/p>\n<p>Fauci\u2019s stunning admission builds on closed-door <a href=\"https:\/\/oversight.house.gov\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/Fauci-Part-2-Transcript.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">testimony<\/a> before the\u00a0Select Subcommittee on the Coronavirus back in January, in which Fauci revealed that the six-foot rule \u2014 which underpinned the social distancing edicts \u2014 \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/oversight.house.gov\/release\/covid-select-subcommittee-releases-dr-faucis-transcript-highlights-key-takeaways-in-new-memo\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">sort of just appeared<\/a>.\u201d When multiple Republican members questioned Fauci on Monday about the origins of these <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/california-sheriffs-tell-newsom-they-wont-enforce-covid-curfew\/\" title=\"California Sheriffs Tell Newsom They Won't Enforce COVID Curfew\">social distancing guidelines<\/a>, Fauci <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/news\/anthony-fauci-testimony-house-select-subcommittee-on-the-coronavirus-pandemic\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">acknowledged<\/a> that they had not been studied in trials and were insufficient to stop the spread of the virus through the air.<\/p>\n<div class=\"fdrlst__b89e9-paragraph-2-long d-flex justify-content-center\" style=\"margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center; \" id=\"fdrlst__b89e9-998954869\">\n<div id=\"div-gpt-ad-1379703300879-0\" class=\"mb-30\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"fdrlst__b89e9-ab194c811ac115ec0233f817426d142b fdrlst__b89e9-paragraph-2\" id=\"fdrlst__b89e9-ab194c811ac115ec0233f817426d142b\"><\/div>\n<p>This demonstrates not only the dishonesty of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/report-biden-admins-top-down-booster-push-may-have-prompted-resignation-of-two-fda-officials\/\" title=\"Report: Biden Admin\u2019s \u2018Top-Down\u2019 Booster Push May Have Prompted Resignation Of Two FDA Officials\">leading public health officials<\/a> at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the National Institutes of Health (NIH) but also the complicity of major news outlets, notably The Washington Post, in spreading this noxious propaganda. There was no objectivity, curiosity, scrutiny, or a genuine desire to represent the public interest. Instead, \u201cjournalists\u201d fell over themselves in their eagerness to fuel the Covid fear machine, isolate people from each other, and demonize President Donald Trump in the process. <\/p>\n<p>Between <a href=\"https:\/\/www.c-span.org\/video\/?470003-1\/vice-president-pence-coronavirus-task-force-briefing\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">March 4<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rev.com\/blog\/transcripts\/donald-trump-mike-pence-and-coronavirus-update-transcript-march-9\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">March 9<\/a>, 2020, our public health overlords inexplicably shifted from recommending that Americans wash hands and stay home while sick to demanding that young and healthy people pretty much shun contact with other human beings. <\/p>\n<p>The Washington Post was fully on board with the absurdity and wanton fearmongering. On March 10, it was soberly advising that \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/health\/2020\/03\/10\/social-distancing-coronavirus\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">social distancing could buy the U.S. valuable time against coronavirus<\/a>.\u201d On March 15, Harry Stevens \u2014 a Pulitzer Prize winner \u2014 used clever graphics and alarming simulations to suggest that \u201cavoiding public spaces and generally limiting  \u2026 movement\u201d would slow the spread of the disease. According to Stevens, \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/graphics\/2020\/world\/corona-simulator\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">That is math, not prophecy,<\/a>\u201d<\/p>\n<p>On April 2, the Editorial Board pronounced that \u201csocial distancing is working\u201d and warned that \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/opinions\/global-opinions\/social-distancing-is-working-the-worst-thing-to-do-now-is-stop\/2020\/04\/02\/fd094f76-736f-11ea-85cb-8670579b863d_story.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">the worst thing to do now is stop<\/a>.\u201d A week later, the Post announced that \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/outlook\/2020\/04\/08\/save-lives-social-distancing-must-continue-longer-than-we-expect\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">to save lives, social distancing must continue longer than we expect<\/a>.\u201d Author Bernice Lerner even <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/outlook\/2020\/04\/21\/social-distancing-must-continue-save-doctors-excruciating-choices\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">evoked the Holocaust<\/a> to try to guilt readers into embracing social distancing. <\/p>\n<p>But it wasn\u2019t all fire and brimstone. The Post thoughtfully provided advice for those struggling with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/gender-identity\/here-are-anxiety-coping-mechanisms-that-could-help-you-during-social-distancing\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">anxiety during social distancing<\/a>, for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/lifestyle\/2020\/04\/20\/parenting-only-child-coronavirus-quarantine\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">only children<\/a> locked away in their bedrooms to help \u201cflatten the curve,\u201d for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/lifestyle\/2020\/04\/16\/sex-touch-quarantine-lockdown-social-distance-coronavirus\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">the sex-starved<\/a>, and for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/nation\/2020\/04\/09\/no-more-hugs-kisses-how-social-distancing-has-changed-traditional-latino-greeting\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Latinos who couldn\u2019t hug or kiss each other hello anymore<\/a>.<\/p>\n<div class=\"fdrlst__b89e9-4c479fc7d2311634218c4b38732b4cbc fdrlst__b89e9-paragraph-6\" id=\"fdrlst__b89e9-4c479fc7d2311634218c4b38732b4cbc\"><\/div>\n<p>And when thinking Americans started pushing back against the madness, writer Paul Waldman, author of <em>White Rural Rage: The Threat to American Democracy<\/em>, outlined how Republicans and Fox News were \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/opinions\/2020\/04\/16\/why-fox-news-republicans-are-promoting-social-distancing-backlash\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">promoting a social distancing backlash<\/a>\u201d among primarily \u201cworking-class white voters, especially men.\u201d He pronounced that \u201cdefying stay-at-home orders will only give new life to the coronavirus, prolonging the pandemic and making it harder to recover economically.\u201d Meanwhile, for writers R. Albert Mohler Jr. and Kelly J. Shackelford, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/opinions\/2020\/04\/03\/mandatory-social-distancing-is-not-threat-religious-liberty-its-essential-humanity\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">mandatory social distancing wasn\u2019t a threat to religious liberty, it was \u201cessential for humanity.\u201d<\/a> <\/p>\n<p>As for Diamond, The Washington Post\u2019s health politics reporter, he apparently won a journalism award for investigating political interference in the pandemic response. Yet in his previous life at Politico, he was also <a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.com\/newsletters\/politico-pulse\/2020\/03\/24\/the-us-isnt-ready-for-social-distancing-to-end-786346\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">disseminating<\/a> the falsehood that physical separation is \u201cthe one proven tool to stop viral spread.\u201d In fact, even this week while conceding that there\u2019s no science behind the social distancing guidelines, Diamond still seemed bizarrely determined to perpetuate the myth that \u201csocial distancing saved lives.\u201d What a joke. <\/p>\n<p>Only it\u2019s not funny at all. California restaurant owner Angela Marsden <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxbusiness.com\/video\/6354294987112\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">appeared<\/a> on Fox Business on Tuesday morning reminding viewers why, far from being a laughing matter or even just plain infuriating, the bogus social distancing rules were \u201ctraumatic\u201d and had an enduring effect on the restaurant industry. The setbacks in education are similarly woeful. A recent analysis of state and national test scores by researchers at Harvard and Stanford <a href=\"https:\/\/educationrecoveryscorecard.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/01\/ERS-Report-Final-1.31.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">revealed<\/a> that \u201cAlabama is the only state where average student achievement exceeds <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/south-dakota-lowers-unemployment-to-pre-pandemic-levels-after-state-rejected-lockdowns\/\" title=\"South Dakota Lowers Unemployment to Pre-Pandemic Levels After State Rejected Lockdowns\">pre-pandemic levels<\/a> in math,\u201d and average achievement in reading is below pre-pandemic levels in all but three states (Louisiana, Illinois, and Mississippi).<\/p>\n<p>As I\u2019ve argued before, it\u2019s no use insisting that in those <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/dow-jones-falls-ahead-of-friday-jobs-report\/\" title=\"Dow Jones Falls Ahead of Friday Jobs Report\">early pandemic days<\/a>, \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.theatlantic.com\/ideas\/archive\/2022\/10\/covid-response-forgiveness\/671879\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">We didn\u2019t know.<\/a>\u201d Yes, we did. At least, anyone who listened carefully knew because all the usual suspects knew and said as much. Fauci, Deborah Birx, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?time_continue=3&#038;v=QNo5ZDvKuHg&#038;embeds_referring_euri=https%3A%2F%2Fdocs.google.com%2F&#038;embeds_referring_origin=https%3A%2F%2Fdocs.google.com&#038;source_ve_path=Mjg2NjY&#038;feature=emb_logo\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Nancy Messonnier<\/a>, Robert Redfield, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/news\/transcript-jerome-adams-on-face-the-nation-march-8-2020\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Jerome Adams<\/a> all went on the record clarifying that the virus was not dangerous to the vast majority of Americans and that the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.vox.com\/2020\/3\/12\/21173783\/coronavirus-death-age-covid-19-elderly-seniors\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">majority of people who contracted the virus would survive<\/a>. In fact, in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/washington\/testimony\/2020\/t20200311.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">congressional testimony<\/a> on March 11, 2020, Fauci, Redfield, and Robert Kadlec testified that \u201cthe immediate risk of this new virus to the American public is low.\u201d What they didn\u2019t disclose was that the CDC\u2019s so-called mitigation strategies had been concocted out of thin air. <\/p>\n<div class=\"fdrlst__b89e9-7fcded926e70b45925cbec8106916106 fdrlst__b89e9-paragraph-10\" id=\"fdrlst__b89e9-7fcded926e70b45925cbec8106916106\"><\/div>\n<p>Some journalists tried to get to the bottom of the six-foot rule. In mid-April 2020, Quartz <a href=\"https:\/\/qz.com\/1831100\/where-does-the-six-feet-social-distancing-guideline-come-from\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">contacted<\/a> the CDC to confirm the origins of the guideline, but after multiple attempts, \u201cthe agency failed to comment.\u201d In August 2020, Business Insider <a href=\"https:\/\/www.businessinsider.com\/6-foot-distancing-rule-is-outdated-oxford-mit-new-system-2020-8\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">reported<\/a> on a <em>British Medical Journal<\/em> paper that argued the six-foot rule for social distancing was based on 80-year-old science. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/TuckerCarlsonTonight\/videos\/3549456311850718\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Tucker Carlson<\/a> subsequently picked up on these same findings. <\/p>\n<p>In December 2022, I <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2022\/12\/07\/americas-draconian-covid-lockdowns-were-about-following-communist-china-not-the-science\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">revealed<\/a> that on March 9, 2020, Fauci and Birx dishonestly attributed the \u201cscience\u201d behind their social distancing framework to the non-peer-reviewed research of a team of unwitting Australian scientists, who themselves had essentially just ripped inherently dodgy Chinese data in formulating their thesis. And in January of this year, I <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2024\/01\/22\/disturbing-details-of-faucis-testimony-leave-no-option-but-to-frogmarch-him-down-memory-lane\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">reported<\/a> that it was the CDC, and possibly Nancy Messonnier herself, who was behind the earliest six-foot claim, made to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wsj.com\/articles\/experts-race-to-figure-out-how-contagious-the-wuhan-virus-is-11580672317\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">The Wall Street Journal<\/a> as early as Feb. 2, 2020.<\/p>\n<p>But at The Washington \u201cDemocracy Dies In Darkness\u201d Post, none of these details ever saw the light of day. Indeed, the most obvious questions \u2014 Where\u2019s the research? Who came up with this? \u2014 were never asked by any of its credulous writers. In fact, in March 2021, the Post was still <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/lifestyle\/wellness\/mask-distance-vaccine-safety-covid\/2021\/01\/20\/f80eeab6-55ce-11eb-a08b-f1381ef3d207_story.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">recommending<\/a> masks and social distancing for those who had received the Covid vaccine.<\/p>\n<p>The Washington Post\u2019s reporting on social distancing was fake news based on fake science. Instead of the significantly hedged piece they just published, evidently conscious that Fauci\u2019s concession demanded some reaction on their part, they should be issuing a sincere <em>mea culpa<\/em> to the Americans they negligently misled.
