Scott believes that his brother&#8217;s \u2063addiction\u2064 began \u200bwith marijuana use\u2062 in his youth and progressed over time. Rick Scott (R-FL). <\/p>\n<p>He lost his brother in April due to years of abusing controlled substances and alcohol. Scott claimed that his brother\u2019s addiction first started with using marijuana in his youth and gradually evolved over the years. It was his brother\u2019s death that he had in mind when he announced last week that he would be voting against a ballot measure in November to legalize recreational marijuana in Florida. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cPeople end up with addictive personalities, and so he did,\u201d <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/rick-scott-florida-marijuana-8ad253289a95f1127f9a7bf771349355\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Scott said during an interview.<\/a> \u201cIt messes up your life, and so that\u2019s why I\u2019ve never supported legalization of drugs.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Florida legalized marijuana for medical use in 2016, joining 37 other states in the nation that had previously done so. Floridians will have the opportunity to vote on the Marijuana Legalization Initiative, known as Florida Amendment 3, in November. It would <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/ballotpedia.org\/Florida_Amendment_3,_Marijuana_Legalization_Initiative_(2024)\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">legalize the use of recreational marijuana<\/a> in the state for people 21 years old and older, with each person legally permitted to have up to three ounces. <\/p>\n<p>Additionally, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/new-hampshire-liquor-stores-to-sell-cannabis-under-new-legalization-plan\/\" title=\"New Hampshire Liquor Stores to Sell Cannabis Under New Legalization Plan\">medical marijuana dispensaries<\/a> in the state would be allowed to sell marijuana to adults for recreational use. If voters choose to support FA3, Florida would become the 25th state to legalize recreational marijuana.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>CLICK HERE TO READ MORE FROM THE WASHINGTON EXAMINER<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Scott and other Republicans in the state announced a formal opposition to FA3\u00a0 in May. They claimed that approving the legislation would result in benefiting \u201cpowerful marijuana special interests, while putting children at risk and endangering Florida\u2019s family-friendly business and tourism climates.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Scott\u2019s official opposition to the amendment comes after several recent studies revealed the negative health ramifications and other dangers associated with using marijuana. This includes a decrease in IQ points,  <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/opinion\/2900705\/legalize-marijuana-linked-strokes-and-heart-attacks\/\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">strokes and heart attacks in adults<\/a>, and psychotic disorders in teens.  <\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p><\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Sen.
