In France, Marine Le Pen&#8217;s National Rally party received over 30% of the vote, \u2063double that of President \u200dEmmanuel Macron&#8217;s party. The party&#8217;s principles \u200dinclude limiting immigration and increasing wages for companies. National Rally is led by Marine Le Pen, who ran against Macron to be president in 2017 and 2022, as well as lead candidate Jordan Bardella. This is the first time a French president has used this power since 1997.<\/p>\n<p>Germany\u2019s day at the polls also pointed to a trajectory away from the traditional governing parties. The right-wing Alternative for Germany likely earned second place with nearly a fifth of the vote. Their <a href=\"https:\/\/www.afd.de\/grundsatzprogramm\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"policies\">policies<\/a> lean conservative in their condemnation of abortion and multiculturalism. Chancellor Olaf Scholz\u2019s Social Democratic Party earned its worst result ever, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/world\/europe\/germanys-far-right-makes-strong-gains-eu-vote-despite-scandals-2024-06-09\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>per<\/a> <em>Reuters<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>Spain\u2019s conservative People\u2019s Party also made gains, nabbing over a third of the votes in its election. Italy\u2019s Brothers of Italy party, led by Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, also appears to be the country\u2019s biggest winner in Sunday\u2019s election, in another win for the right wing of the country.<\/p>\n<p>So bad were the left-leaning blocs in the EU\u2019s elections that Belgian Prime Minister Alexander De Croo announced his resignation to take effect on Monday. De Croo\u2019s Flemish Liberals and Democrats party secured less than 6% of the vote.
