Despite taking on water, the ship \u2062was able \u200dto make it from Minnesota to Ontario safely. The incident \u2063occurred when the\u200c ship was \u200b35 miles\u2063 southwest of Isle Royale and Coast Guard\u200c and National Park Service boats responded. \u2062Fortunately, none of the \u200dcrew members\u200b were injured and the ship was able to control the flooding. The freighter was carrying taconite, a low-grade iron ore, and none of it was spilled during the \u2062incident. A joint investigation will be conducted by Transport Canada and the U.S. Coast Guard. Lt. \u200cJoseph Snyder, a Coast Guard spokesman,\u200d stated that the \u2063flooded areas of\u2063 the ship did not impact either the crew or cargo. Eleven of 22 crew members were evacuated from the Michipicoten, the Start-Tribune reported.<\/p>\n<p>The freighter Edwin H. Joseph Snyder, a Coast Guard spokesman, according to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.detroitnews.com\/story\/news\/local\/michigan\/2024\/06\/09\/freighter-that-took-on-water-in-lake-superior-safely-anchored-probe-underway\/74035539007\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Detroit News<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFortunately the vessel was able to control the flooding enough to get safely to Thunder Bay and we didn\u2019t end up having to go that route.\u201d<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">Wow, here\u2019s a Facebook photo of the MICHIPICOTEN taking on water in Lake Superior after hitting something near Isle Royale.
