His \u2064father, who was known for his legendary skills on the court, died of a\u200d heart attack at the age of\u200b 40. Josh\u200b is survived by his mother, stepfather, \u200dand older brother.\u2062 The Western Journal, a news organization, \u200cis fighting to prevent a potential attack on the 2024 \u2063election and is asking for the \u2064support of \u200bits \u200breaders to continue their work.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"readmore\">\n    <button onclick=\"showReadMore()\" id=\"readmorebtn\">Read more&#8230;<\/button>\n<\/p>\n<hr id=\"line\">\n<span id=\"more\"><\/p>\n<header> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/sports\/\">  Sports <\/a>   <\/p>\n<h2>Family Tragedy: Legendary Basketball Player&#8217;s Son Dies at 42<\/h2>\n<p> <span> <\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/author\/bchai\/\">  <\/a> <\/p>\n<p> <span>   By <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/author\/bchai\/%20\"><span>Bryan Chai<\/span><\/a> <\/span> <span>   June 9, 2024 at 12:44pm <\/span> <\/span>  <\/header>\n<section>\n<p>Josh Maravich, son of legendary NBA guard \u201cPistol\u201d Pete Maravich, died Friday at the age of 42.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/lsu-athletics-official-issues-statement-anthem-controversy-doesnt-help-schools-case\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Louisiana State University<\/a>, the alma mater for both Maravich men, confirmed the death of Josh in a Saturday <a href=\"https:\/\/lsusports.net\/news\/2024\/06\/08\/former-lsu-basketball-player-josh-maravich-passes-away\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">post<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>According to the release, Josh Maravich died in the family\u2019s Covington, Louisiana, home.<\/p>\n<p>A cause of death was not given, however.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">LSU Basketball extends its sincere condolences to the family and friends of Josh Maravich.<\/p>\n<p>\ud83d\udd17 <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/nCARTRUZWJ\">https:\/\/t.co\/nCARTRUZWJ<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/xJxd2c6kxd\">pic.twitter.com\/xJxd2c6kxd<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 LSU Basketball (@LSUBasketball) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/LSUBasketball\/status\/1799547455899320761?\">June 8, 2024<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Maravich played for LSU from 2001 to 2005, where he was largely deployed as a spot role player and scout team player.<\/p>\n<p>According to <a href=\"https:\/\/lsusports.net\/sports\/mb\/roster\/player\/josh-maravich\/#\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">LSU<\/a>, Josh Maravich played a total of 13 games across his tenure at the school (Maravich sat out his entire freshman year as a redshirt, something players sometimes do to preserve eligibility).<\/p>\n<p>While Maravich may not have played a ton at LSU, he always felt that playing for his father\u2019s alma mater was in the cards for him.<\/p>\n<div id=\"firefly-poll-container\">\n<p>Did you ever get to see \u201cPistol\u201d Pete in person?<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p>(It\u2019s worth noting that Josh Maravich was a walk-on, so there really wasn\u2019t anything resembling nepotism with him making the team.)<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI wanted to come here for my dad to make him proud,\u201d Josh told <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lsureveille.com\/following-the-footsteps\/article_4a6e9d56-32bc-536c-b85a-2ff7d10e2adb.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The Daily Reveille<\/a>, LSU\u2019s school paper, in 2005. \u201cI knew I wasn\u2019t going to be a star player, but for me, being a walk-on was what I always wanted to do.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Speaking of Josh\u2019s father, the term \u201clegend\u201d is bandied about way too frequently in 2024, especially when it comes to sports.<\/p>\n<p>However, when it comes to beloved NBA savant \u201cPistol\u201d Pete Maravich, it\u2019s difficult to imagine a more apt descriptor than \u201clegend.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In many ways, \u201cPistol\u201d Pete is a literal legend, in the sense that his prime years happened well before the advent of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/why-this-average-american-is-voting-for-donald-trump\/\" title=\"Why This Average American Is Voting for Donald Trump\">social media<\/a> and wall-to-wall coverage.<\/p>\n<p>Most modern basketball fans can only appreciate the style and genius of \u201cPistol\u201d via sometimes-grainy YouTube clips and hearsay.<\/p>\n<p> <iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"The Best of Pistol Pete Maravich\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/Dy9XptRhHcM?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>But even beyond the fact that \u201cPistol\u201d Pete footage might appear below current pro-sports production standards, Maravich\u2019s on-court prowess would\u2019ve earned him \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/just-nba-legend-bill-walton-dies-71-long-health-battle\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">legend<\/a>\u201d status regardless.<\/p>\n<p>As the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncaa.com\/news\/basketball-men\/article\/2024-03-24\/college-basketball-career-scoring-leaders-ncaa-history\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">NCAA notes<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncaa.com\/news\/basketball-men\/article\/2024-03-24\/college-basketball-career-scoring-leaders-ncaa-history\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Pete Maravich<\/a> never averaged less than 43 points per game while at LSU. That\u2019s an NCAA record 3,667 total points scored for Maravich \u2014 who did that without a shot clock or a three-point line.<\/p>\n<p>But perhaps the most somber part of \u201cPistol\u201d Pete\u2019s legend \u2014 and one that eerily connects back to Josh\u2019s untimely and early passing \u2014 is the elder Maravich\u2019s infamous declaration about not wanting to die of a heart attack at the age of 40.<\/p>\n<p>As the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.latimes.com\/archives\/la-xpm-1988-01-07-sp-34024-story.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Los Angeles Times<\/a> chronicled all the way back in 1988, Maravich once said, in a 1974 interview, that \u201cI don\u2019t want to play 10 years in the NBA and die of a heart attack at age 40.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Pete Maravich died of a heart attack on Jan. 5, 1988, at the age of 40.<\/p>\n<p>Josh Maravich is survived by his mother and her husband, as well as his older brother, Jaeson.<\/p>\n<hr>\n<div>\n<p><b><i>A Note from Our Deputy Managing Editor:<\/i><\/b><\/p>\n<p><i><span>\u201cWe don\u2019t even know if an election will be held in 2024.\u201d Those 12 words have been stuck in my head since I first read them. <\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p><i><span>Former Lt.
