Comer and his colleagues sent a <a href=\"https:\/\/dw-wp-production.imgix.net\/2024\/06\/Criminal-Referral-6.5.24.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">letter<\/a> to Attorney General <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/topic\/merrick-garland\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Merrick Garland<\/a> and special counsel David Weiss last week recommending both Hunter Biden and James Biden be charged with making false statements and Hunter Biden also be charged with perjury over testimony for the inquiry.<\/p>\n<p>The criminal referrals are the \u201cfirst step,\u201d Comer said during the interview on Sunday. \u201cEverything that we refer to the Department of Justice is within the statute of limitations. In fact, there\u2019s a five-year statute of limitations. So, if Merrick Garland\u2019s Department of Justice doesn\u2019t take this up in an appropriate manner, then the next administration and a new attorney general certainly can,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p>Hunter Biden is already facing two criminal cases led by Weiss that could result in prison time. The first son has pleaded not guilty to gun charges in a case set in Delaware and tax charges in California. His gun-related trial <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/president-biden-releases-statement-as-jury-selection-begins-in-hunters-gun-trial\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">began last week,<\/a> while the tax trial in California is set to start in September.<\/p>\n<p>Abbe Lowell, Hunter Biden\u2019s attorney, said the referrals are \u201cnothing more than a desperate attempt by Republicans to twist Hunter\u2019s testimony so they can distract from their failed impeachment inquiry and interfere with his trial,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/biden-impeachment-house-republicans-hunter-james-e310269a42abd4a28a7e105b43f9c05a\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">according to the<\/a> Associated Press. James Biden\u2019s lawyer Paul Fishman called the move by House Republicans a \u201cbaseless partisan action\u201d and said his client \u201calways maintained that Joe Biden never had any involvement in his business dealings.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Whether President Biden will also face criminal referrals, Comer did not say, but the chairman stated that \u201caccountability for Joe Biden\u201d is the \u201cnext step.\u201d President Biden has <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2024\/03\/01\/us-news\/biden-insists-he-didnt-interact-with-hunter-james-biz-partners\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">denied<\/a> interacting with his family members\u2019 business partners, despite testimony from impeachment witnesses attesting he did at least speak with some of the associates, and he <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/biden-declines-invite-to-testify-for-impeachment-inquiry\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">refused to accept<\/a> an invitation to testify for the probe.<\/p>\n<p>Comer said subpoenaing a sitting president is \u201chard\u201d and quipped that if it was not difficult then the Democrats \u201cwould have done that to\u201d former President Donald Trump in the impeachment inquiries he faced.
