Arabia in another boon to Iran\">civilian casualties<\/a> on the tactics of the\u2062 terrorist \u200borganization Hamas. Unlike in the famous \u200b1976 Entebbe raid, conducted by Israel in Uganda, \u200dthis operation resulted in\u200c dozens of civilian deaths.\u2064 According to \u2064the\u200d IDF, Hamas \u2062was responsible \u200bfor\u200d placing civilians at risk \u2062by \u200cholding\u200b the hostages in civilian homes. The IDF spokesperson \u200cstated that every\u200b civilian death is a tragedy, \u2064but \u200dthat Hamas \u2063is\u200d ultimately responsible for the casualties as\u200b they were using civilian buildings to \u200battack the rescue operation. Despite criticism,\u200b the IDF did not rule out the possibility of similar operations in the future. The United\u200c States reportedly\u200d assisted with intelligence for the operation.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"readmore\">\n    <button onclick=\"showReadMore()\" id=\"readmorebtn\">Read more&#8230;<\/button>\n<\/p>\n<hr id=\"line\">\n<span id=\"more\"><\/p>\n<div>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/idf\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"Israel Defense Forces\">Israel Defense Forces<\/a> blamed Palestinian civilian casualties in a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/hostages\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"Israel Defense Forces\">hostage<\/a> rescue operation on the tactics of the terrorist organization Hamas.<\/p>\n<p>Israel carried out one of its first <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/us-offers-hostage-rescue-support-to-israel-amid-fears-americans-among-kidnapped-by-hamas\/\" title=\"US offers hostage rescue aid to Israel amid concerns of American citizens being kidnapped by Hamas.\">hostage rescue operations<\/a> within Gaza, in an operation IDF Chief Spokesman Rear Admiral Daniel Hagari compared to its famous raid on Entebbe, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/Uganda\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>Uganda<\/a>, in 1976.<\/p>\n<p>Unlike that operation, however, the raid into the Nuseirat camp wrought dozens of civilian casualties. Hamas-run Gaza Health Ministry put the total number of killed at 274 Palestinians, with many being civilians, while Israel put the total at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.axios.com\/2024\/06\/09\/israel-hostage-rescue-operation-killed#:~:text=Israeli%20Defense%20Forces%20said%20that,of%20Health%20announced%20274%20deaths.\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"less than 100\">less than 100<\/a>, according to reports. Peter Lerner first cast doubt on the high Palestinian casualty figures, then blamed Hamas for the casualties.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMartha, every civilian life lost in this war is a tragedy. Every civilian life lost in this war is a result of how <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/Hamas\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>Hamas<\/a> has operated,\u201d he told ABC News\u2019s <em>This Week<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLet\u2019s think about, just for a moment, where they were holding the hostages. Within civilian houses. Within people\u2019s apartments. In the same apartment they were being held were the families that owned the apartments. This exemplifies specifically how Hamas is operating,\u201d he continued.<\/p>\n<figure><\/figure>\n<p>When pressed, Lerner insisted that the airstrikes on surrounding buildings, which killed dozens, were essential to the operation.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe forces came under fire from a 360-degree threat,\u201d he said. \u201cRPGs, AK-47s, explosive devices on the way, mortar rounds. It was, is, a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/war\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>war<\/a> zone. And so civilians in that \u2014 the tragedy of civilians being caught up in this is precisely because of how Hamas is battling us on the battleground.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>When asked, Lerner didn\u2019t rule out the possibility of similar operations in the future.<\/p>\n<p>The operation was meticulously planned over the course of weeks, with the United States assisting with intelligence, according to two U.S. officials speaking <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.com\/news\/articles\/cp334z7rxxmo\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"with CBS News\">with CBS News<\/a>. The other result was for the streets to be crowded with hundreds of civilians shopping at a nearby market. One local resident, Nidal Abdo, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2024\/06\/09\/middleeast\/israel-hostage-rescue-gaza-intl-hnk\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"estimated\">estimated<\/a> to CNN that 150 rockets fell within 10 minutes, wreaking havoc.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/ShaykhSulaiman\/status\/1799634278008934876\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"Videos\">Videos<\/a> published on social media showed dozens of civilian casualties.
