Douglas Golden<\/span><\/a> <\/span> <span>   June 8, 2024 at 5:09am <\/span> <\/span>  <\/header>\n<section>\n<p>A New Jersey pastor and his family are in the thoughts and prayers of Americans in the wake of a terrible accident that left a 6-year-old girl dead during a vacation in Maine earlier this month.<\/p>\n<p>According to the <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2024\/06\/07\/us-news\/new-jersey-girl-lucy-morgan-killed-after-badminton-racket-pierces-skull\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">New York Post<\/a>, Lucy Morgan died Wednesday in Maine after a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/expectant-father-28-killed-by-exploding-gender-reveal-device\/\" title=\"Expectant Father, 28, Killed By Exploding Gender Reveal Device\">freak accident<\/a> left a fragment of a badminton racket in her head.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe tragedy unfolded Saturday as the Morgan family of six enjoyed their last full day at their rental cottage in Limerick, Maine, according to her father Jesse Morgan, a pastor at Green Pond Bible Chapel in Rockaway,\u201d the New York Post reported.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe were eating a quick lunch by the lake and the kids decided to try badminton in the front yard. Bethany and I were relaxing in the back when we <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/not-all-police-shootings-are-equal-don-lemon-defends-officer-in-adam-toledo-shooting\/\" title=\"\u2018Not All Police Shootings Are Equal\u2019: Don Lemon Defends Officer In Adam Toledo Shooting\">heard screaming<\/a>,\u201d Morgan said on his blog.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDue to a freak accident with a racquet that broke on a downward swing, a sharp piece had entered Lucy\u2019s skull while she was sitting on the sideline and caused catastrophic injury.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The girl was breathing <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/horror-county-ems-wave-calls-floods-2-arrested-deadly-mass-overdose-strike-area\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">when EMS<\/a> responded to the scene, but after airlifting the girl to Maine Medical Center in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/maine-secretary-state-cut-trump-now-state-gop-looking-return-favor\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Portland<\/a>, she flatlined on the operating table after surgeons tried to remove part of her skull to relieve pressure.<\/p>\n<p>She was resuscitated, but doctors warned the family that she had \u201ca very slim chance of survival, given the arterial bleeds caused by the wound.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>At 4 a.m. Wednesday, the girl died.<\/p>\n<p>Reports said the shaft of the badminton racket \u2014 which was aluminum \u2014 came loose from the wooden base and struck her through the head.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">NJ pastor\u2019s daughter, 6, killed in freak badminton accident on vacation: \u2018We heard screaming\u2019 <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/Z2fBfoMo78\">https:\/\/t.co\/Z2fBfoMo78<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/QfSLHnk9kJ\">pic.twitter.com\/QfSLHnk9kJ<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 New York Post (@nypost) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/nypost\/status\/1799247939363061822?\">June 8, 2024<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Maine State Police said that her death was caused by \u201cunintentional injury from her 10-year-old brother.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEvery time I looked into the rear view mirror, wishing I saw Lucy munching on some chicken nuggets after we stopped at Wendy\u2019s and only ordered for 5,\u201d Jesse Morgan wrote in a <a href=\"https:\/\/newcreationliving.com\/2024\/06\/07\/lucy-update-day-4-5-groaning-double-guessing-grace-and-gas\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">blog post<\/a>, remembering the car trip up <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/ap-maine-state-official-removed-trump-ballot-targeted-swatting-call-home\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">to Maine<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>In the post, the pastor shared heartbreaking anecdotes about his daughter\u2019s journey <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/created-rest-entering-joyful-communion-god\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">with God<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFour weeks ago she asked [her mother] Bethany how to be with God and be saved,\u201d the <a href=\"https:\/\/newcreationliving.com\/2024\/06\/02\/lucy-updates\/?wref=tp\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">blog post<\/a> reads.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBethany explained it to her and offered to pray with her, but \u2018Miss Independent\u2019 wanted to do it herself. She went to her room and prayed to God to forgive her and that she believed in Jesus\u2019 death and resurrection. What a gift.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>As for the pastor himself, he wondered in the post if he could take his own lessons.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI just taught on processing grief in the last Adult Bible Class I taught before sabbatical,\u201d Morgan wrote.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAm I willing to submit to my own advice? Right now holding her hand I\u2019m not sure, but I want to. I\u2019ve been physically beating my chest asking for faith.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He added he\u2019d \u201cbeen reading yesterday about phases in our spiritual lives where God shows us something hard and walks with us through it.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI observed I have been a bit resistant to this in my journaling. Bethany and I then discussed Job as she finished her Bible reading plan with that book. Yesterday we were discussing how terrifying the book is. It\u2019s even more so now. So gravely terrifying and mysteriously comforting.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, the girl\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/unimaginable-tragedy-suspected-drunken-driver-veers-childrens-birthday-party-killing-siblings\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">siblings<\/a> \u2014 10, 8 and 4 \u2014 were apparently \u201cblaming themselves and taking it hard.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The brother who accidentally caused the injury asked his mother and father \u201chow we could ever be happy again,\u201d according to one post.<\/p>\n<p>When they first arrived home with one less family member, \u201cWe just sat on the front steps for a while crying until I finally mustered up the courage to open the door. We again collapsed in a pile on the kitchen floor crying harder as a family than we ever have,\u201d he wrote.<\/p>\n<p>It is consolation \u2014 albeit scant consolation in the acute, earthly sense \u2014 that, after a freak accident that was nobody\u2019s fault, Lucy is in Heaven with the Lord.
