Austin State University standout was in a special teams meeting.<\/p>\n<p>Rick Burkholder, the Chiefs\u2019 vice president of sports medicine and performance, said during a press conference on Friday that the team had held a meeting earlier in the week on how players should respond to serious medical emergencies.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe\u2019s awake and he\u2019s alert,\u201d Burkholder said in updating reporters on Thompson\u2019s condition in the hospital. \u201cHe\u2019s headed in the absolute right direction.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He said that when the incident happened, kicker Harrison Butker \u201cimmediately ran towards the training room and grabbed [assistant athletic trainers] Julie Frymyer and David Glover and then grabbed me, and we went into the room.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs a team, we tried to stabilize BJ and put him on the floor while he was still seizing,\u201d he said. \u201cThen he went into cardiac arrest. Our team of that group of people provided CPR for him.
