The moral\u200b cost of\u200c using X has always been high, but now it will be higher.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>This article is \u200cabout the social media platform X&#8217;s decision to allow pornography on their platform. Late last month, X announced new guidelines that permit users to share pornographic content as long as it is properly labeled and \u200cnot prominently displayed. The guidelines also restrict exposure\u2064 to adult content for \u2062children \u200dand users who choose not \u200dto see it. This is not a change in policy for the platform, as it previously allowed sexually explicit content \u2064before being purchased by Elon Musk in 2022. \u200dCritics of the decision, such as the\u200c Family\u2064 Research Council, argue that pornography is \u2062harmful and can lead to \u2062addiction and ruined families. They\u2064 also warn about \u200dthe\u200d dangers of the pornography industry and its ties to human sex trafficking. McCarthy, The Washington Stand<\/span><\/a> <\/span> <span>   June 7, 2024 at 2:27pm <\/span> <\/span>  <\/header>\n<section>\n<p>One of the world\u2019s largest and most influential internet platforms announced that it will formally permit pornography, according to newly published guidelines.<\/p>\n<p>Late last month, X issued <a href=\"https:\/\/help.x.com\/en\/rules-and-policies\/adult-content\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">new standards<\/a> regarding \u201cadult content,\u201d which the social media giant defined as \u201cany consensually produced and distributed material depicting adult nudity or sexual behavior that is pornographic or intended to cause sexual arousal. This also applies to AI-generated, photographic or animated content such as cartoons, hentai, or anime.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The new guidelines allow users to share pornographic <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/ceo-iger-disney-adding-adult-content-streaming-app-beta-test-coming-soon\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">adult content<\/a> \u201cprovided it\u2019s properly labeled and not prominently displayed.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The guidelines add, \u201cWe balance this freedom by restricting exposure to Adult Content for children or adult users who choose not to see it. We also prohibit content promoting exploitation, nonconsent, objectification, sexualization or harm to minors, and obscene behaviors.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The newly defined guidelines on pornography do not reflect a change in the platform\u2019s policy, as it\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/in-response-to-texas-abortion-law-dating-app-creates-pro-choice-badge-option\/\" title=\"In Response To Texas Abortion Law, Dating App Creates \u2018Pro-Choice\u2019 Badge Option\">previously allowed\u00a0users<\/a> to post and share sexually explicit content before business magnate <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/donald-trump-elon-musk-meet-discuss-potential-white-house-role-report\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Elon Musk<\/a> purchased the company in 2022.<\/p>\n<p>In comments to The Washington Stand, Mary Szoch, director of Family Research Council\u2019s Center for Human Dignity, said, \u201cX\u2019s decision to allow pornography will make it infinitely more difficult for men and women who are striving to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/the-tube-girl-trend-shows-how-gen-z-lives-in-the-digital-world-not-the-real-one\/\" title=\"Gen Z's 'Tube Girl' trend reflects their digital-centric lifestyle, detached from the real world.\">live virtuous lives<\/a>. It will make it even more likely that young boys and girls are exposed to porn at an age where their brain is still developing. What a tragedy.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>She continued, \u201cIt\u2019s no exaggeration to say that pornography destroys lives and ruins families. The brains of countless men and women who, often through no fault of their own, find themselves ensnared by this form of evil, are altered in the same way as they would be if they had used drugs. If not treated with the seriousness it deserves, it tears marriages apart. And all of this doesn\u2019t even begin to touch on the impact the pornography industry has on the victims who create the pornography that feeds the industry.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPornography is so exploitive, it\u2019s impossible to ethically produce it or fully \u2018consent\u2019 to being part of its production,\u201d said Meg Kilgannon, senior fellow for Education Studies at FRC.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPornography is at the top of the list of billion-dollar industries on the march to capture our children. That X wants to be officially complicit in platforming this content is deeply disturbing, especially given Elon Musk\u2019s skepticism of the gender cult, so obviously fueled by porn consumption,\u201d Kilgannon said.<\/p>\n<div id=\"firefly-poll-container\">\n<p>Should X ban pornography altogether?<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p>She noted that the pornography industry facilitates and profits from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/158-arrests-made-border-state-massive-human-trafficking-activity-uncovered-12-day-span\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">human sex trafficking<\/a>, adding, \u201cWe all deserve better than porn. God\u2019s plan for human sexuality is beautiful, unlike the production, distribution, and platforming of the hideous lie that is pornography.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>X\u2019s new guidelines request users who generate or post pornographic content to mark their content as such so that a filter may be placed over it. Users who are reported to X\u2019s content moderators for failing to mark their pornographic content may have their accounts suspended or otherwise penalized.<\/p>\n<p>Those who, in X\u2019s words, \u201cchoose not to see it\u201d will have the option of either ignoring filtered content and continuing their scrolling or else removing the filter and viewing the content. Users who either register using a birth date denoting them as under the age of 18 or who do not use a birth date when registering will be blocked from removing the filter.<\/p>\n<p>There is currently no mechanism to verify ages or ensure birth dates entered are accurate.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPornography is perhaps the greatest example of what happens when freedom is not regulated by virtue. In the name of freedom, X has taken the position that it doesn\u2019t regulate anything unless it is illegal,\u201d said Joseph Backholm, senior fellow for biblical worldview at FRC.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhile they claim to be neutral, in reality they will become a tool for evil that will produce very real social consequences,\u201d Backholm said.<\/p>\n<p>He continued, \u201cHaving pornography distributed on a site often used for collating news is insidious because it will appear even if you\u2019re not looking for it. States may soon need to pass age verification laws to get on X because X may soon become primarily a place for pornography.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPresumably, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/gavin-newsom-celebrates-california-economy-twitter-gets-fact-checked-immediately\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">X<\/a> is afraid that stopping pornography would be \u2018censorship,\u2019 which is true but also appropriate,\u201d Backholm said. \u201cThey are demonstrating the consequences of moral relativism. If you\u2019re afraid to identify something as evil, you\u2019ll never be capable of stopping evil.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Nearly one-third of states require age verification processes before <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/pornhub-sues-texas-over-age-verification-law\/\" title=\"Pornhub files lawsuit against Texas over age verification legislation.\">accessing pornographic websites<\/a> in order to prevent children from viewing pornography.
