And what they \u200csay isn\u2019t pleasant to fans of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/6-kids-shows-that-are-pushing-the-lgbtq-agenda-to-preschoolers\/\" title=\"6 Kids\u2019 Shows That Are Pushing The LGBTQ Agenda To Preschoolers  \u00a0\">original series<\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>The article discusses the current state of the &#8220;Star Wars&#8221; \u200dfranchise and the changes\u2064 that \u200chave occurred \u2064since creator \u2064George Lucas\u2062 sold it to Disney in 2012. While Lucas has unofficially retired and profited greatly from the sale, he has also responded to\u200d criticism that the franchise is not &#8220;woke&#8221; enough. The author argues that the\u2063 original trilogy and prequels had universal themes and a message of hope, while the new projects often focus on diversity and &#8220;woke&#8221; messaging. The author concludes that the focus on messaging has taken away from the fun and universal appeal of the original &#8220;Star Wars&#8221; films.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"readmore\">\n    <button onclick=\"showReadMore()\" id=\"readmorebtn\">Read more&#8230;<\/button>\n<\/p>\n<hr id=\"line\">\n<span id=\"more\"><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cStar Wars\u201d creator George Lucas has little to complain about these days.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">He\u2019s unofficially retired and his signature franchise fattened his wallet to the tune of <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/thewaltdisneycompany.com\/disney-to-acquire-lucasfilm-ltd\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">$4 billion.<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Lucas still fought back against those who said his \u201c<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/2024\/film\/festivals\/george-lucas-star-wars-critics-all-white-men-cannes-film-festival-1236015478\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Star Wars\u201d saga wasn\u2019t woke enough<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">  while receiving the Cannes Film Festivals\u2019 honorary Palme d\u2019Or.<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><em><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">They would say, \u2018It\u2019s all white men\u2019 \u2026Most of the people are aliens! The idea is you\u2019re supposed to accept people for what they are, whether they\u2019re big and furry or whether they\u2019re green or whatever. The idea is all people are equal.<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">He needn\u2019t say a syllable.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cStar Wars,\u201d both the original trilogy and its lesser prequel series, gave us a diverse cast of heroes, universal themes and an underlying message of hope.<\/span><\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_747715\" style=\"width: 875px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\">\n<p id=\"caption-attachment-747715\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Rocco Spaziani\/Archivio Spaziani\/Mondadori Portfolio via Getty Images<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Heck, if a desert planet farmer could free the galaxy from Darth Vader, we all can do something meaningful with our lives.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">That\u2019s the point. It\u2019s also one that\u2019s all but forgotten since Disney handed over that $4 billion check to Lucas in 2012.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Blockbusters come and go, but few sagas have inspired audiences quite like \u201cStar Wars.\u201d The films spawned a revolution in toy sales, endless pop culture off-shoots and who knows how many filmmakers careers. More than a few have cited \u201cStar Wars\u201d to this scribe as the spark behind their creative journeys.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The modern \u201cStar Wars\u201d universe, in sharp contrast, is a culture war battlefield. The stories reek of woke messaging. The cast and crew inject diversity talking points into their media interviews, never missing a chance to proclaim <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.yahoo.com\/entertainment\/star-wars-female-driven-kathleen-kennedy-ahsoka-rey-160236957.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">the saga\u2019s evolved agenda<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><em><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">I know for a lot of people it\u2019s so significant that there are so many women in these films, and I think that\u2019s wonderful. If that inspires people that maybe would have said \u2018It\u2019s not for me\u2019 or \u2018I can\u2019t do that\u2019 and [now] they say \u2018I can be that\u2019 and \u2018I can do that,\u2019 that\u2019s even better. You want it to be not a time of change, but a time of inclusion.<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">That\u2019s Dave Filoni, Lucasfilm\u2019s Chief Creative Officer.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The not-so-hidden message? The \u201cStar Wars\u201d franchise you know and love was problematic to the core. And we fixed it.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Except the only recent \u201cStar Wars\u201d project with a fraction of the fan devotion as the original series remains \u201cThe Mandalorian.\u201d And that show fired one of its most popular stars, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/topic\/gina-carano\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Gina Carano<\/a>, for sharing the \u201cwrong\u201d views on social media.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Apparently, the former MMA star was <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">too<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">  empowering.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">We haven\u2019t had a new \u201cStar Wars\u201d movie since 2019\u2019s \u201cThe Rise of Skywalker.\u201d Since then, project after \u201cStar Wars\u201d project has been announced <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/2023\/film\/news\/star-wars-kevin-feige-patty-jenkins-movies-shelved-1235545774\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">and put in dry dock<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Now, Disney\u2019s Kathleen Kennedy, president of Lucasfilm, pushes \u201cThe Force is Female\u201d messaging and <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/media\/kathleen-kennedy-stresses-storytelling-needs-represent-people-new-star-wars-show\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">attacks audiences<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">  before new \u201cStar Wars\u201d titles even air.<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><em><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Operating within these giant franchises now, with social media and the level of expectation \u2014 it\u2019s terrifying \u2026 I think a lot of the women who step into \u2018Star Wars\u2019 struggle with this a bit more. Because of the fan base being so male dominated, they sometimes get attacked in ways that can be quite personal.<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Right on cue, the folks behind \u201cThe Acolyte,\u201d the latest Disney+ \u201cStar Wars\u201d series, accepts the label that the show is the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/disney-churns-out-its-gayest-star-wars-show-yet\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cgayest\u201d project<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">  yet.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The messaging, both on screen and off, is relentless. So where\u2019s the fun?<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cThe Acolyte\u201d features a same-sex couple prominently in the story, highlights an all-female coven of witch-like warriors and demonizes the Jedi Knights, purportedly the heroes of the saga.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">No one cared about the background of the original \u201cStar Wars\u201d creators. Films weren\u2019t examined and re-examined for \u201crepresentation\u201d or \u201cdiverse\u201d points of view. The Han-Leia romance mattered, but love and identity took a back seat to saving the galaxy.<\/span><\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_747717\" style=\"width: 874px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\">\n<p id=\"caption-attachment-747717\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">VALERY HACHE\/AFP via Getty Images<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Lucas had a vision, one that a small army of artists carried out to the last, painstaking detail.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">It worked like a charm, if memory serves.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Lucas took sizable heat following the release of the prequel trilogy. He caught more fire for tinkering with the original films, updating special effects and editing out minor moments considered canon by fans.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The 2010 film \u201cThe People vs. George Lucas\u201d by Alexandre O. Philippe captured the mixed feelings fans had for Lucas. They worship his pop culture contributions and have plenty to say about them, too.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">He mostly let the work speak for him.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Lucas created his space saga decades before the rise of social media. The modern storytellers aren\u2019t so fortunate. They still seem intent on mocking critics and fans alike, dubbing those who resist some of the new storytelling tics \u201cracist\u201d and\/or \u201csexist.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Those barbs ricochet around social media, short-circuiting the bond between creator and fan.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cThe Acolyte\u201d showrunner Leslie Headland <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/white-people-crying-was-the-goal-old-clip-of-the-acolyte-actress-goes-viral-ignites-backlash\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">attacked classic \u201cStar Wars\u201d tales<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">  to The New York Times.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cAs a fan myself, I know how frustrating some \u2018Star Wars\u2019 storytelling in the past has been. I\u2019ve felt it myself.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">She\u2019s in the minority. Legions of fans reveled in the original adventures of Han, Luke and Leia. They bought the lunch boxes, slept on \u201cStar Wars\u201d sheets and never worried about the number of minorities in a given scene.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Lucas\u2019 tales sparked their imaginations, then and now.
