The situation was first brought to attention by Education Commissioner Frank \u2062Edelblut, who described several instances of misconduct and leftist political agendas being pushed in schools. The\u200d teacher had called in sick for the day but instead took the student to the appointment. After\u2064 being criticized\u2062 for making the allegation without evidence, Edelblut released an investigative report confirming the teacher&#8217;s dismissal. The teacher had been conversing\u200b with the student\u200c for weeks and helped them\u2062 determine how far along they were, allowing the\u200b teacher to take them to the appointment.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"readmore\">\n    <button onclick=\"showReadMore()\" id=\"readmorebtn\">Read more&#8230;<\/button>\n<\/p>\n<hr id=\"line\">\n<span id=\"more\"><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">A public school teacher was fired for secretly taking a student to get an abortion during school hours, according to a government <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.education.nh.gov\/sites\/g\/files\/ehbemt326\/files\/inline-documents\/sonh\/rtk-op-ed-response.pdf\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">investigation<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">  by New Hampshire\u2019s Department of Education.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The situation was first referenced by Education Commissioner Frank Edelblut in an <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.education.nh.gov\/news-and-media\/thank-god-someone-looking-out-children\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">April op-ed<\/span><\/a>, in which<span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> he described complaints from parents and educators about misconduct and leftist political agendas being pushed in schools. He cited instances of teachers drinking on the job, counselors encouraging students to transition without involving parents, a student with a Trump flag labeled as a white supremacist, and encouragement of Black Lives Matter and LGBT content for kids.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cHow should the Department respond when\u2026 allegedly, an educator lies by calling in sick so they can take a student \u2013 without parental knowledge \u2013 to get an abortion[?] Should we turn a blind eye?\u201d he asked.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">After the <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Boston Globe <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bostonglobe.com\/2024\/04\/24\/metro\/frank-edelblut-nh-education-abortion-claim\/\">criticized<\/a><\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">  Edelblut for making this \u201cabortion claim without evidence,\u201d Edelblut released the investigative report showing the teacher was fired. Information about the school, as well as the names of the student and teacher, are redacted.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">According to the report, the teacher said they had food poisoning and called out of work sick. While out for the day, the teacher \u201cescorted a current student to a medical appointment during school day hours.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The teacher admitted to lying about being sick and taking the student, and was placed on administrative leave. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201c[T]hey had been conversing with the student for 2.5 weeks regarding the medical appointment,\u201d the report states. \u201c[The teacher] told the student to determine how far along they were (and assisted them) so the student knew what options they\u2019d have available.\u201d <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The teacher also helped find the facility for the abortion so \u201cthey knew it was a safe facility\u201d because \u201cthe student didn\u2019t have anyone to support them.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">New Hampshire law requires parents to be informed 48 hours before a minor seeks an abortion unless a judge says otherwise, according to Planned Parenthood. It is unclear if the student was under 18.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Edelblut\u2019s office was informed of the situation on October 18. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The teacher was fired, though the dates of the termination are redacted in the report.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Local Republican lawmakers told <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/nhjournal.com\/nh-teacher-secretly-took-student-for-abortion-investigation-reveals\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">the New Hampshire Journal<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">  they were outraged that parents were not informed.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cI am horrified to hear that a teacher in our New Hampshire schools felt the right way to help a pregnant student who felt unsupported in her pregnancy was to research abortion facilities and call out sick to take a student to an abortion rather than to help her speak with her parents and find support from her family,\u201d said state lawmaker Erica Layon.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cKeeping secrets or going behind a parent\u2019s back is never <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/arizona-governor-doug-ducey-signs-election-integrity-bill-reforming-absentee-voting\/\" title=\"Arizona Governor Doug Ducey Signs Election Integrity Bill Reforming Absentee Voting\">good public policy<\/a>,\u201d said Republican state lawmaker Tim Lang.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cIt\u2019s not good for the child, either.
