His transition to Washington\u200c remains a surreal and challenging change.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"readmore\">\n    <button onclick=\"showReadMore()\" id=\"readmorebtn\">Read more&#8230;<\/button>\n<\/p>\n<hr id=\"line\">\n<span id=\"more\"><\/p>\n<div>\n<p>Second gentleman <a href=\"https:\/\/www.whitehouse.gov\/administration\/douglas-emhoff\/\" title>Doug Emhoff<\/a> is an eager supporter of his wife, Vice President <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/campaigns\/presidential\/3024610\/kamala-harris-jimmy-kimmel-live-appearance-months-after-canceling\/\" title>Kamala Harris,<\/a> and the Biden administration\u2019s policies and agenda.<\/p>\n<p>But he misses lawyering in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/los-angeles\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>Los Angeles<\/a>. Like, really misses it.<\/p>\n<p>In a new interview, Emhoff said that he missed working for his DLA Piper clients and his fast-paced legal life eight times. \u201cGreat clients need great lawyers. I miss the action. I really miss all of it!\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou pick up your phone and, all of a sudden, there\u2019s a whole new set of issues awaiting you. And all throughout the day there are important clients who need you for important matters. I miss representing clients who really need a great <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/lawyers\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>lawyer<\/a> in their time of need. I loved the hardest problems for the most important clients \u2014 the stuff that\u2019s not easy; I loved the stuff that was hard. Also, to really put myself out there for those clients \u2014 I miss that. I miss <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/flashback-former-ag-barr-initiated-spying-program-on-americans-back-in-1992\/\" title=\"FLASHBACK: Former AG Barr Initiated Spying Program on Americans Back in 1992\">law firm<\/a> life: the highs and lows \u2014 the chase, the recruiting, the clients \u2014 all the things we love about law firm life, including the partners who need you to help them on issues and working on firm management issues,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<div>\n<figure><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n<p>Emhoff, who teaches in his spare time at Georgetown Law, said breaking from his law firm to join the administration and his wife in Washington was hard.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI went from something not only that I loved so much \u2014 I loved my partners, my colleagues, the clients, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/Business\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>business<\/a>, the town \u2014 and it was such a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/women-slam-biden-for-alleged-sexist-comment-made-toward-registered-nurse\/\" title=\"Women Slam Biden For Alleged \u2018Sexist\u2019 Comment Made Toward Registered Nurse\">big part<\/a> of who I was, and I was good at it. It was a big part of my identity. Then, to go from that on a dime \u2014 literally on a dime \u2014 to something completely different that has never been done before, it\u2019s a jarring and surreal transition,\u201d said Emhoff.<\/p>\n<p>As with his lawyering, however, Emhoff has thrown himself into his new role. He has also built a substantial portfolio of issues that he has traveled the world to promote, including fighting anti-semitism, expanding opportunities for women, and encouraging legal pro bono work.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe need more women who are equity partners, more <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/Women\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>women<\/a> in law firm management. And, of course, that\u2019s true in government, military, business, education, you name it. Why is it so unequal? There\u2019s slightly over 50 percent women in this country; however, the higher up the professional ladder you go, the fewer women there are. Moreover, this is an issue worldwide. This is an issue that being a man who comes from the business world \u2014 the big law world \u2014 I thought I could really help move the needle on. And I\u2019ve really been trying to do so,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/washington-secrets\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">SEE THE LATEST POLITICAL NEWS AND BUZZ FROM WASHINGTON SECRETS<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>And despite his hectic life that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/washington-secrets\/425681\/doug-emhoff-serves-the-beef-wife-kamala-harris-just-the-sweets\/\" title>he clearly enjoys,<\/a> Emhoff said that if he were to give advice to students entering the law business, it would be to slow down.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI would have told him to slow down a little bit. That kid wanted it all, and he wanted it now! And, in a lot of ways, he got it. But I think, looking back \u2014 and I certainly try to practice this now: Slow down a little bit, take care of yourself, work out more, focus on your <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/health\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>health<\/a>, and focus on other things instead of just work, because you can do all that stuff. That\u2019s my advice to my younger self: Slow down! Slow down, man!
