They shed their blood, and thousands gave their lives, in defense of American Freedom. They are in our hearts today and for all time.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Trump was the indirect subject of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/campaigns\/3030242\/biden-uses-d-day-speech-take-veiled-shots-at-trump-vows-stand-ukraine\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>part of President Joe Biden\u2019s speech<\/a> at the D-Day <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/german-police-apologise-after-officers-did-push-ups-on-holocaust-memorial\/\" title=\"German Police Apologise After Officers Did Push-Ups on Holocaust Memorial\">80th anniversary<\/a> ceremony. As president, Trump attended the 75th anniversary commemoration.<\/p>\n<p>George Cross <a href=\"https:\/\/stephenambrosetours.com\/d-day-veteran-spotlight-paratrooper-george-cross\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"served\">served<\/a> in the 82nd Airborne, landing in Normandy in the hours before the first D-Day landings. He took part in the famous battle of Sainte-Mere-Eglise, which became the first town liberated by the Allies. (Brady Knox)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Cobb served on the destroyer USS <em>Murphy<\/em>, taking part in battles in the Mediterranean before providing supporting fire for the D-Day landings at Omaha Beach. He <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.com\/news\/articles\/c7228rq2nelo\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"told\">told<\/a> the BBC that he appreciated being able to visit Normandy again.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPeople here are nice,\u201d he said. \u201cWe enjoy coming back.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Melnikoff stormed Omaha Beach, the most well-defended of the five D-Day beaches, where the lion\u2019s share of casualties occurred. He was wounded during the battle of Saint-Lo on June 17. I was there. I\u2019m not reading a book or something like that. I was there, and this feeling that we have \u2014 the people are so absorbed with themselves \u2014 they\u2019re not the way we were. We volunteered, we were drafted \u2014 but we knew we had a mission we did.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Radish was the only one present who didn\u2019t participate in the landings themselves, coming ashore in the months after D-Day and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.army.mil\/article\/235418\/veterans_virtually_recall_end_of_wwii_in_europe\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"fighting\">fighting<\/a> in battles across France and Germany.
