Experts warn of a possible recession, highlighting the challenges posed by\u200d inflation and consumer confidence, painting a grim picture of\u200b the economic landscape.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"readmore\">\n    <button onclick=\"showReadMore()\" id=\"readmorebtn\">Read more&#8230;<\/button>\n<\/p>\n<hr id=\"line\">\n<span id=\"more\"><\/p>\n<header> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/news\/\">  News <\/a>   <span> <\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/author\/igcolonel\/\">  <\/a> <\/p>\n<p> <span>   By <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/author\/igcolonel\/%20\"><span>Warner Todd Huston<\/span><\/a> <\/span> <span>   June 6, 2024 at 4:35pm <\/span> <\/span>  <\/header>\n<section>\n<p>A key economic indicator called the U.S. Chicago Purchasing Managers Index has some very bad news about the economy, and, perhaps worse, the indicator has been right at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/warren-buffetts-major-stock-moves-set-off-alarm-bells-about-the-us-economy-a-recession-is-right-around-the-corner\/\" title=\"Warren Buffett's stock moves raise concerns: 'Recession imminent\">predicting recessions<\/a> 100 percent of the time for decades.<\/p>\n<p>The CPMI assesses the business conditions and economic health of the manufacturing sector in the upper Midwest around the Chicago region and maintains that the economy is healthy if the index sits at 50.0 or above. But under 50.0 reveals a contracting <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/biden-makes-fool-factory-cant-even-sound-will-build\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">manufacturing<\/a> and business climate in the important region.<\/p>\n<p>David Rosenberg, the founder and president of the market analysis firm Rosenberg Research &#038; Associates Inc., has scanned the Chicago PMI and come to the disheartening realization that the index numbers are showing that we are in a recession.<\/p>\n<p>As Rosenberg noted, this index has been 100 percent correct about predicting <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/wall-street-veteran-recession-inevitable-us-economic-decline-will-begin-2024\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">recessions<\/a> for a very long time.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">Chicago PMI at 35.4 has been consistent with recession 100% of the time in the past. Those who threw in the towel on the call will be picking it up before too long, as they did in 1990, 2001 and 2008. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/GDnES8siGL\">pic.twitter.com\/GDnES8siGL<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 David Rosenberg (@EconguyRosie) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/EconguyRosie\/status\/1796625989247684721?\">May 31, 2024<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Nautilus Research added a chart that showed the times that the CPMI was at or below 35.4 and that every time it fell in a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/american-retail-giant-notices-change-customer-behavior-historically-signaling-recession\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">recession<\/a> as far back as the 1960s.<\/p>\n<blockquote data-conversation=\"none\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">Yes and\u2026 <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/42pTh1uI9M\">pic.twitter.com\/42pTh1uI9M<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Nautilus Research (@NautilusCap) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/NautilusCap\/status\/1796664191132074420?\">May 31, 2024<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<div id=\"firefly-poll-container\">\n<p>Do you think a recession is coming?<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Financial advisory company <a href=\"https:\/\/www.advisorperspectives.com\/dshort\/updates\/2024\/05\/31\/chicago-pmi-drops-to-4-year-low\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">VettaFi<\/a> has also warned that the CPMI is a worrisome indication of the health of the economy.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe latest Chicago Purchasing Manager\u2019s Index (Chicago Business Barometer) fell to 35.4 in May from 37.9 in April. This is the sixth straight monthly decline and the lowest level for the index since May 2020,\u201d Jennifer Nash wrote on VettaFi\u2019s website. \u201cThe latest reading is worse than the 41.1 forecast and keeps the index in contraction territory for a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/ortiz-bidenflation-is-the-next-pandemic\/\" title=\"Ortiz: Bidenflation Is the Next Pandemic\">sixth consecutive month<\/a>.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Nash added that over the last 12 months, the index only rose above 50 once, in November. And between November and June, it has been plummeting.<\/p>\n<p>Further, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.morningstar.com\/news\/marketwatch\/20240531329\/chicago-business-activity-index-weakens-to-lowest-level-in-four-years\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Dow Jones Newswire<\/a> reported that the CPMI reading was \u201cwell below expectations.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Analysts had predicted that the index would hit 40.8 at the end of May, but that prediction was missed. The Dow Jones Newswire also added that May\u2019s index was the sixth month in a row that resulted in a contraction.<\/p>\n<p>This index, coupled with the ever-spiraling <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/chart-shows-change-household-net-worth-biden-par-trump-years-adjusting-inflation-undoes\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">inflation rate<\/a>, shows that Bidenomics has put America in a very dangerous position.<\/p>\n<p>Also last month, the economic numbers <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/biden-killing-economy-inflation-remains-high-consumer-spending-weakens\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">showed<\/a> that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/canada-hikes-interest-rates-1\/\" title=\"Canada Hikes Interest Rates 1%\">inflation remains stubbornly high<\/a> and consumer confidence is very low, a one-two punch that means the economy is suffering.<\/p>\n<p>In the face of the frequent false and overly rosy reporting in the establishment media, the Biden economy continues to fail, thanks to the inflationary forces bleeding Americans of their incomes and driving prices up for nearly everything. These pressures have caused Americans to sour on the nation\u2019s economic health.<\/p>\n<p>Consequently, the U.S. Bureau of Economic Analysis <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bea.gov\/news\/2024\/personal-income-and-outlays-april-2024\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">announced<\/a> on May 31 that the Federal Reserve\u2019s personal consumption expenditures price index increased 0.3 percent last month and 2.7 percent in the 12 months through April.<\/p>\n<p>The numbers are no help for Bidenomics. According to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.usinflationcalculator.com\/inflation\/current-inflation-rates\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">U.S. Inflation Calculator<\/a>, the U.S. inflation rate has been more than double in each of Biden\u2019s years over what it was when Trump was in office. When Biden took office, the inflation rate he inherited from Donald Trump was 1.4 percent. But the next year, it soared as high as 9.1 percent. And in the last reporting period, it was at 3.4 percent, still more than double Trump\u2019s rate in late 2020.<\/p>\n<p>Inflation has been bad enough, of course.
