Troy Nehls (R-TX) for wearing \u2063a military award \u200dpin that\u200b was revoked in 2023 after being mistakenly awarded to him. Nehls displays a Combat\u2063 Infantryman Badge, \u2063which was\u200c revoked \u200bdue to his role as a civil\u200c affairs officer, rather than\u2064 the rightful Combat Action Badge. The \u2063issue arises from discrepancies in his military records.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"readmore\">\n    <button onclick=\"showReadMore()\" id=\"readmorebtn\">Read more&#8230;<\/button>\n<\/p>\n<hr id=\"line\">\n<span id=\"more\"><\/p>\n<div>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/house-republicans\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>House Republicans<\/a> are criticizing <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/house\/2999967\/troy-nehls-ethics-investigation-texas-congress\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>Rep. Troy Nehls<\/a> (R-TX) for wearing a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/military\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>military award pin<\/a> on his lapel despite having the designation revoked last year because it was mistakenly given to him.<\/p>\n<p>Nehls wears a Combat Infantryman Badge on his suit jacket despite an investigation <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/news\/troy-nehls-bronze-star-combat-infantryman-badge\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>from CBS News<\/a> that found that the pin was revoked from his military record in 2023 because he served as a civil affairs officer during his time in Afghanistan. The badges are only awarded to infantrymen or Special Forces soldiers engaged in active ground combat.<\/p>\n<p>Instead, Nehls has been awarded the Combat Action Badge, the Army confirmed to the <em>Washington Examiner<\/em>. That medal is given to soldiers outside those job fields who are \u201cactively engaging or being engaged by the enemy,\u201d according to the Army guidelines.<\/p>\n<p>Military records show Nehls was given the Combat Infantryman Badge in October 2008 for his service in Afghanistan, which is also listed on his discharge documents. However, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/family-members-of-nursing-home-victims-condemn-n-y-gov-cuomo\/\" title=\"Family members of nursing home victims condemn N.Y. Gov. Cuomo\">records obtained<\/a> by CBS News show the badge was later rescinded after his records were amended due to his service as a civil affairs officer rather than an infantryman or Special Forces officer.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Army reviewed the record of Rep. Nehls in 2023 and issued a DD215 to correct the record,\u201d said Army spokesman Bryce Dubee, referring to a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/russia-says-u-s-should-expect-uncomfortable-signals-from-moscow\/\" title=\"Russia Says U.S. Should Expect \u2018Uncomfortable\u2019 Signals From Moscow\">military form<\/a> that is used to correct any errors to discharge documents after they have been delivered or documented. \u201cThe DD215 did not include a Combat Infantryman Badge.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>However, Nehls continues to wear the badge, prompting criticism from some of his GOP colleagues who have also served in the military.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt matters,\u201d Rep. Ryan Zinke (R-MT), a retired Navy SEAL, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.notus.org\/congress\/troy-nehls-combat-infantry-badge-pin-revoked\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>told <em>NOTUS<\/em><\/a>. \u201cAs a former commander, it matters what you wear on your uniform. And if you didn\u2019t earn it, you shouldn\u2019t wear it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat\u2019s ridiculous,\u201d Rep. Wesley Hunt (R-TX) also told the outlet. \u201cThat\u2019s stolen valor.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Nehls defended his military record despite the investigation, especially pushing back on its findings that the Texas Republican had only earned one Bronze Star rather than two.
