Police scoured the wooded areas around Manorville and Southampton, where partial remains of Taylor and Costilla had been found. <\/p>\n<h3>The Gilgo Beach Murders<\/h3>\n<p>The bodies of the original \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/863374\/gilgo-beach-murders-everything-we-know-about-rex-heuermann-and-the-long-island-killings\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>Gilgo Four<\/a>,\u201d Maureen Brainard-Barnes, Melissa Barthelemy, Megan Waterman, and Amber Lynn Costello, were all discovered in 2010, with their cases remaining unsolved for more than a decade. All of the women were sex workers with similar physical descriptions. Their bodies were found within a quarter mile of each other. In total, 10 bodies were uncovered along this remote stretch of Ocean Parkway near Gilgo Beach \u2014 as well as farther east in Southampton, where Costilla\u2019s body was found. <\/p>\n<figure><\/figure>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title><strong>CLICK HERE TO READ MORE FROM THE WASHINGTON EXAMINER<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Prosecutors said DNA evidence from human hair found at the scene, as well as phone records and internet searches, led to Heuermann\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/1532792\/watch-live-long-island-officials-hold-briefing-on-capture-of-suspect-in-gilgo-beach-serial-killings\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>arrest<\/a> in July 2023, but sparse evidence for the other victims has left these cases open to investigation.<\/p>\n<p>Heuermann pleaded not guilty to the newest charges.
