The Justice Department reluctantly \u2064pursued the case after scrutiny of a lenient deal that aimed to absolve Hunter of other alleged offenses.\u200d The trial sheds light on the complex \u200dinteractions between politics, justice, and power. The trial of Hunter Biden, President Joe Biden&#8217;s son, commenced with charges of falsifying paperwork, overlooking more severe allegations. Reluctantly, the Justice Department \u200bproceeded with the case following backlash against a lenient \u2062deal meant \u2062to clear Hunter\u200d of other accusations. This trial underscores the intricate interplay of politics, justice, and influence.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"readmore\">\n    <button onclick=\"showReadMore()\" id=\"readmorebtn\">Read more&#8230;<\/button>\n<\/p>\n<hr id=\"line\">\n<span id=\"more\"><\/p>\n<div>\n<div>\n<figure>                         <\/figure>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Tuesday marked the first day of <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2024\/06\/04\/heres-everything-you-need-to-know-about-hunter-bidens-criminal-gun-trial\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">trial<\/a> for President Joe Biden\u2019s son, Hunter. He\u2019s not on trial for sex trafficking, influence peddling, money laundering, or even operating as an unregistered foreign agent \u2014 even though there\u2019s evidence of his participation in all of these crimes.<\/p>\n<p>No, he\u2019s on trial for lying on paperwork, and even then, it\u2019s a trial the Justice Department never wanted to happen. The government only charged him after a judge called foul on an attempted sweetheart deal that sought to exculpate Hunter on all other alleged wrongdoings.  <\/p>\n<p>Special Counsel David Weiss brought three federal charges against Hunter in September. Hunter is accused of lying on application paperwork while addicted to drugs in order to obtain a firearm and unlawfully possessing said firearm. <\/p>\n<p>Pouncing on the trial, CNN\u2019s Oliver Darcy <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2024\/06\/04\/media\/hunter-biden-trial-right-wing-media\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">wrote<\/a> on Tuesday that the \u201cHunter Biden trial shows America\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/remember-the-founders-vision-for-criminal-justice-rehabilitation-not-just-punishment\/\" title=\"Remember the Founders\u2019 Vision for Criminal Justice: Rehabilitation, Not Just Punishment\">justice system isn\u2019<\/a>t so rigged after all.\u201d Corporate media are desperate to convince Americans who just witnessed the ultimate weaponization of the justice system with the show trial conviction of former President Donald Trump that the system is working just fine, since Hunter is also facing charges.<\/p>\n<p>The left wants you to believe that charging Hunter with what is possibly the least damning allegation stacked against him is somehow morally and legally equivalent to inventing a novel crime to weaponize the justice system against a political opponent.<\/p>\n<p>But one of the many factors Darcy conveniently leaves out is what got Hunter to the point of appearing in the Delaware courthouse.<\/p>\n<p>IRS whistleblowers came forward last year to reveal that the <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2023\/06\/22\/irs-whistleblower-docs-show-doj-obstructed-investigation-into-his-son-to-protect-joe-biden\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">DOJ<\/a> delayed investigations into Hunter and tried to interfere in the IRS investigators\u2019 probe into apparent tax crimes by the younger Biden. The whistleblowers alleged the Justice Department \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2023\/06\/22\/irs-whistleblower-fbi-tipped-off-people-very-close-to-joe-and-hunter-before-irs-investigative-teams-day-of-action\/\">thwarted<\/a> investigative efforts, \u2018slow-walked\u2019 cooperation with tax agents, and even <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2023\/06\/22\/delaware-prosecutors-hid-fbi-bribery-document-from-irs-investigators\/\">concealed<\/a> critical evidence implicating President Joe Biden in a criminal bribery scheme,\u201d as my colleague Tristan Justice <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2024\/05\/22\/jason-smith-new-whistleblower-documents-show-hunter-biden-lied-to-congress\/\">wrote<\/a>. <\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/oversight.house.gov\/release\/hearing-wrap-up-irs-whistleblowers-expose-how-bidens-were-treated-differently%EF%BF%BC\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Furthermore<\/a>, \u201cPresident Biden\u2019s politically appointed U.S. Attorneys for D.C. and Central District of California denied the U.S. Attorney in Delaware\u2019s request to bring charges, which \u2026 put Hunter Biden on the path to a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/ghislaine-maxwell-now-accusing-prison-guard-of-abuse\/\" title=\"Ghislaine Maxwell Now Accusing Prison Guard Of Abuse\">sweetheart plea deal<\/a>,\u201d as the House Oversight Committee summarized.<\/p>\n<p>The sweetheart deal would have permitted the president\u2019s son to plead guilty to two <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/desantis-responds-to-hunter-biden-case-sweetheart-deal\/\" title=\"DeSantis reacts to Hunter Biden case: 'Favorable agreement'\">misdemeanor tax offenses<\/a> and \u201cavoid responsibility almost entirely for his gun offenses by entering into a deferred prosecution agreement,\u201d as explained by Steve Roberts, Jonathan Fahey, and Andrew Pardue for <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2024\/06\/04\/heres-everything-you-need-to-know-about-hunter-bidens-criminal-gun-trial\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">The Federalist<\/a>. Hunter\u2019s team also demanded the sweetheart deal include immunity for \u201cany other federal crimes\u201d he may have committed. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cSuch agreements are almost entirely unheard of for firearms offenses,\u201d the trio wrote. <\/p>\n<p>A federal judge rejected the plea deal after it fell apart under her questioning, with prosecutors unwilling to publicly accept the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/heres-everything-you-need-to-know-about-hunter-bidens-criminal-gun-trial\/\" title=\"Discover Key Details About Hunter Biden's Legal Gun Case\">broad immunity request<\/a>. <\/p>\n<p>As Roberts, Fahey, and Pardue noted, Hunter also allegedly dodged more than $1.4 million in taxes by \u201cunderstating his income and inflating his expenses,\u201d a crime that carries a maximum of 17 years in prison. Since the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/hunter-biden-plea-deal-falls-apart\/\" title=\"Hunter Biden's plea deal collapses.\">plea deal fell<\/a> apart, Hunter is set to stand trial on some of the tax charges in September. But the IRS whistleblowers <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/2446324\/merrick-garland-punts-on-hunter-bidens-alleged-lapsed-statute-of-limitations-to-david-weiss\/?utm_source=google&#038;utm_medium=cpc&#038;utm_campaign=WE_Pmax_Section-News&#038;gad_source=1&#038;gclid=CjwKCAjwvIWzBhAlEiwAHHWgvSbhSZ5Zm3v5auijDaAaeOZvieWYEu-NQr3oBdkGMBjMVWZHPkt1NBoCGhgQAvD_BwE\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">alleged<\/a> that the DOJ had allowed the statute of limitations to expire on Hunter\u2019s apparent tax evasion from 2014 and 2015, letting him escape accountability for those. <\/p>\n<p>Notably, 2014 was the year in which Hunter Biden was appointed to the board of Ukrainian energy firm Burisma, where he was paid as much as $83,000 per month in exchange for the Biden \u201cbrand.\u201d The same year, then-Vice President Joe Biden publicly <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2023\/08\/01\/evidence-of-biden-burisma-corruption-is-overwhelming\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">pressured<\/a> the Ukrainian government to fire a prosecutor who was looking into Burisma leadership.<\/p>\n<p>In addition to letting \u201csome of the most egregious tax crimes\u201d expire, prosecutors \u201chaven\u2019t even touched all his shady lobbying,\u201d as the Washington Free Beacon\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/ChuckRossDC\/status\/1798023182504567186\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Chuck Ross<\/a> notes. <\/p>\n<p>Hunter may be facing trial, but the charges he does face are \u201cnot the result of a get-Biden effort but the consequences of the failure of their let-Biden-off plan,\u201d as my colleague Margot Cleveland <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2024\/06\/05\/no-hunter-bidens-trial-does-not-exonerate-americas-two-tiered-justice-system\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">explained<\/a>. Hunter is getting off easy considering the other crimes he\u2019s been implicated in \u2014 and corresponding charges he has thus far evaded, almost certainly because his last name is Biden.<\/p>\n<p>Testimony and documentary evidence have implicated Hunter, Joe, and other members of the Biden family in a complex influence-peddling scheme in which Hunter appears to have sold access to then-Vice President Joe Biden in exchange for cash and gifts from foreign oligarchs. Despite evidence to the contrary, during the 2020 presidential debate, Joe Biden claimed Hunter had never \u201cmade money\u201d from China.\u00a0Four years later, Hunter <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2024\/03\/01\/hunter-biden-confesses-he-was-paid-by-china-exposing-one-of-his-dads-biggest-lies\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">admitted<\/a> he received multiple payments from Chinese Communist Party-linked businesses and individuals while testifying behind closed doors to the House Oversight Committee.\u00a0Hunter never registered as a foreign agent.<\/p>\n<p>Hunter and his father have faced no repercussions for their influence-peddling schemes.<\/p>\n<p>On top of that, the <a href=\"https:\/\/oversight.house.gov\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/07\/Letter-re-Victims-to-DOJ-7.25.23-Final.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">House Oversight Committee<\/a> is also \u201cconcerned DOJ disregarded the victims who were sexually exploited by Hunter Biden\u201d after Hunter allegedly paid prostitutes \u201cand used such payments as tax expenses for one of his companies.\u201d<\/p>\n<hr>\n<p>      Brianna Lyman is an elections correspondent at The Federalist.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p><\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The trial of Hunter Biden, President Joe Biden&#8217;s son, began on Tuesday.
