Michael McCaul wrote in a June 5 letter to Psaki\u2019s lawyer that the former press secretary had \u201cfailed to adequately respond\u201d to earlier correspondence seeking a transcribed interview before the House Foreign Affairs Committee, which he chairs.<\/p>\n<p>The Texas Republican offered the attorney, Emily Loeb, three potential dates for Psaki to participate in the interview \u2014 one in June and two in July \u2014 and said that there would be consequences if he didn\u2019t hear back from her within a week\u2019s time.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI hope Ms. Psaki chooses to appear voluntarily; otherwise I will be forced to turn to compulsory process,\u201d he wrote.<\/p>\n<p>The letter was first obtained exclusively by <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2024\/06\/05\/michael-mccaul-foreign-affairs-committee-jen-psaki-testimony-subpoena-afghanistan-withdrawal\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The Daily Caller<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYour client Jen Psaki has failed to adequately respond to my letter dated May 21, 2024, requesting that she appear before the Committee for a transcribed interview relating to my investigation into the U.S. withdrawal from Afghanistan,\u201d McCaul wrote.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs you know, I requested a response from Ms. Psaki by May 28, 2024, which has now passed,\u201d he added. \u201cYour client\u2019s disregard for my request is an affront to this Committee and the U.S. House of Representatives.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The committee plans to question <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/jen-psaki-admits-rfk-jr-huge-huge-huge-problem-joe-biden\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Psaki<\/a> about her time in the Biden administration as part of its investigation into the U.S. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/bidens-afghanistan-withdrawal-left-staggering-amount-weaponry-behind-taliban-seize-official-report\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">withdrawal from Afghanistan<\/a> than many say was botched under President <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/new-report-biden-not-person-signs-cognitive-decline-kick-hard-show-slipping-away\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Joe Biden<\/a>\u2019s leadership, leading to the deaths of 13 U.S. servicemembers.<\/p>\n<p>Apparently, her only response to McCaul\u2019s previous request for an interview was largely to ignore it, citing unspecified \u201cconcerns\u201d from the White House Counsel\u2019s Office.<\/p>\n<div id=\"firefly-poll-container\">\n<p>Will Jen Psaki be subpoenaed?<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p>\u201cI have reviewed the email that was addressed to my staff on May 28, 2024,\u201d he wrote. \u201cI am troubled by your and Ms. Psaki\u2019s stated \u2018deference\u2019 to outdated \u2018concerns\u2019 from the White House Counsel\u2019s Office.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFurther,\u201d he added, \u201cMs. Psaki is a private citizen, who has published her insight into the U.S. withdrawal from Afghanistan for public consumption and personal profit. Ms. Psaki\u2019s duty to appear before Congress is manifest, and her former employer\u2019s desire to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/cruz-to-force-recorded-vote-on-biden-nominee-accused-of-lying-to-congress-about-iran-deal\/\" title=\"Cruz To Force Recorded Vote on Biden Nominee Accused of Lying to Congress About Iran Deal\">avoid congressional oversight<\/a> is not relevant.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>McCaul was apparently referring to Psaki\u2019s book, \u201cSay More,\u201d in which she discussed, for example, the incident in which Biden <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/video-biden-appears-check-watch-dignified-transfer-service-members-killed-afghanistan\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">checked his watch<\/a> multiple times during the \u201cdignified transfer\u201d ceremony for Americans killed in Afghanistan in 2021 \u2014 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/liar-liar-jen-psaki-forced-make-embarrassing-change-book-pro-biden-lie-gets-exposed\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">by claiming that<\/a>, despite multiple photographs and fact-checks proving otherwise, it never happened.<\/p>\n<p>In April, the House Foreign Affairs Committee issued a <a href=\"https:\/\/foreignaffairs.house.gov\/press-release\/mccaul-on-dods-updated-abbey-gate-investigation\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">statement<\/a> quoting McCaul as saying that recent revelations made it obvious that there was more investigatory work to be done into the Afghanistan withdrawal.<\/p>\n<p>That statement, the most recent from the committee on the topic of its open investigation into the withdrawal, appears in its entirety below.<\/p>\n<p><em>House Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman Michael McCaul has released the following statement in response to USCENTCOM\u2019s updated after action report on the terrorist attack at Abbey Gate on August 26, 2021. CENTCOM reopened the investigation in response to testimony provided to the committee and because of pressure by the committee\u2019s investigation into the Biden administration\u2019s deadly and chaotic withdrawal from Afghanistan in 2021. <\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cWhile I\u2019m pleased my investigation forced the Biden administration to reopen their investigation into the Abbey Gate attack that led to the deaths of 13 U.S. servicemembers and the injury of\u00a045,\u00a0it should not have taken this long to get answers. In addition, if congressional Democrats had fulfilled their constitutional obligations and conducted oversight of what happened more than two years ago, much of this information could have come to light then and saved years of anguish and speculation for many. I hope this updated report provides some level of clarity to the families of those who were killed, those who were injured in the attack, and all veterans, especially those who served in Afghanistan. <\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cThis report confirmed what witnesses have told this committee: the Taliban was executing civilians outside the airport. The report also finally reveals the identity of the Abbey Gate bomber as Abdul Rahman al-Logari, an ISIS-K terrorist who was freed from the Bagram prison by the Taliban.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cWith this report revealing the Biden administration has been sitting on critical information about what happened during the emergency evacuation from Afghanistan, it is clear there are many more questions to be answered.
