Governor J.B. Pritzker praised the budget for \u200b<a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/live-6-pm-et-maine-officials-give-update-on-mass-shootings\/\" title=\"LIVE at 6 PM ET: Maine Officials Provide Mass Shootings Update\">addressing crucial issues<\/a> like education and healthcare. The\u2063 budget also \u200ballocates approximately $970 million for non-citizen \u200bmigrants. Minority Leader John\u2063 Curran criticized the budget as a missed opportunity to challenge the governor&#8217;s agenda.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"readmore\">\n    <button onclick=\"showReadMore()\" id=\"readmorebtn\">Read more&#8230;<\/button>\n<\/p>\n<hr id=\"line\">\n<span id=\"more\"><\/p>\n<div>\n<p>(The Center Square) \u2013 The largest taxpayer spending plan in Illinois state history was signed Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p>Approved by the House last week, and the Senate the week before that, the budget spends $53.1 billion in state funds. That\u2019s 32% higher than when Gov. J.B. Pritzker first took office in 2019. Add federal tax dollars and other state funds, the fiscal year 2025 plan spends $125 billion.<\/p>\n<p>Before signing the budget Wednesday, Pritzker heralded the budget.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEducation, health care, housing, child care, these are some of the most <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/white-house-gop-push-back-on-impeachment-talks\/\" title=\"White House, GOP push back on impeachment talks\">important issues<\/a> at the top of mind for Illinois families and this budget goes a long way toward addressing them,\u201d Pritzker said.<\/p>\n<p>The budget also spends about $970 million on non-citizen migrants.<\/p>\n<p>Before voting \u201cno,\u201d Senate Minority Leader John Curran, R-Downers Grove, said the budget is a \u201cmissed opportunity to push back on the governor\u2019s misguided agenda.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>President Joe Biden\u2019s \u201crefusal to secure our nation\u2019s border coupled with Governor Pritzker\u2019s quest to use non-citizen welfare policies to propel himself in the national stage is playing itself out in this very budget before us. It is patently unfair to require Illinois taxpayers to fund their joint failure.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Separately, Illinois Gov. J.B. Pritzker, Senate Minority Leader John Curran, R-Downers Grove, and state Rep. Fred Crespo, D-Hoffman Estates, discuss the Illinois state budget.BlueRoomStream<\/p>\n<p>It wasn\u2019t just Republicans who wanted spending cuts. Some Democrats, such as Illinois Comptroller Susana Mendoza and state Rep. Fred Crespo, sought to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/biden-reverses-27-4-billion-in-spending-cuts-proposed-by-trump\/\" title=\"Biden Reverses .4 Billion in Spending Cuts Proposed by Trump\">reduce spending<\/a>. Crespo, D-Hoffman Estates, suggested a hiring freeze, across-the-board reductions and building agency reserves.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd we came up with a billion dollars and my understanding was that that wasn\u2019t considered either,\u201d Crespo said on the House floor last week.<\/p>\n<p>Pritzker said they could have brought their ideas directly to his office. He also addressed concerns about future year spending pressures.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou heard that in 2022. You heard that in 2023. You\u2019re hearing it in 2024,\u201d Pritzker said. \u201cPeople say it every year and you know what we have done? Balanced the budget every single year.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Just in Pritkzer\u2019s first term, Illinois taxpayers paid at least $5.2 billion of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/report-biden-to-propose-6-trillion-budget-that-would-break-debt-records\/\" title=\"REPORT: Biden To Propose  Trillion Budget That Would Break Debt Records\">increased taxes<\/a>, according to Illinois Policy. The new budget starting July 1 increases taxes another $750 million, including another increase in gas taxes.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cImposing new tax hikes on a shrinking population will exacerbate the outmigration crisis in Illinois,\u201d said Illinois Policy\u2019s Bryce Hill. \u201cIllinoisans are forced to keep up with lawmakers\u2019 unhealthy spending patterns, which drive away businesses and residents. Instead of increasing the burden, lawmakers should be looking for ways to reduce taxes and spending.
