Scott, a \u2064potential \u2063VP\u200c candidate, agrees with Trump that the legal issues could \u200cmake him\u200c more appealing to a demographic typically favoring Democrats. Scott emphasizes themes\u2062 of jobs, justice, and education to engage \u200bblack voters. He focuses\u200d on \u200chighlighting jobs, justice,\u200d and education to connect with black \u2064voters.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"readmore\">\n    <button onclick=\"showReadMore()\" id=\"readmorebtn\">Read more&#8230;<\/button>\n<\/p>\n<hr id=\"line\">\n<span id=\"more\"><\/p>\n<div>\n<p>Sen. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/tim-scott\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"Tim Scott\">Tim Scott<\/a> (R-SC) sees more opportunity to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/senate\/2955740\/tim-scott-courts-black-voters-trump\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"Tim Scott\">convince black voters<\/a> to vote for Donald Trump after the presumptive GOP presidential nominee became a convicted felon.<\/p>\n<p>Scott, a possible <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/fla-gov-ron-desantis-becoming-major-voice-for-gop\/\" title=\"Fla. Gov. Ron DeSantis becoming major voice for GOP\">vice presidential pick<\/a>, echoed Trump\u2019s belief that the New York conviction in his <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/the-big-problem-with-the-stormy-daniels-hush-money-case-against-trump\/\" title=\"The Big Problem With The Stormy Daniels Hush Money Case Against Trump\">hush money case<\/a> and other criminal trials will make the candidate <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/campaigns\/presidential\/3025575\/tim-scott-argues-trump-verdict-united-gop\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"more attractive\">more attractive<\/a> to a key voting bloc typically dominated by Democrats.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI honestly think this decision is helpful to driving even more folks to the Republican Party,\u201d Scott told a group of reporters in Washington this week following Trump\u2019s guilty verdict on 34 felonies. \u201cAfrican American men are fed up with this two-tiered justice system, so much so that I would suggest the number today is closer to 45% to 50% of African American men who are open\u201d to the GOP.<\/p>\n<p>Scott, the only black Republican senator and one of just five black GOP lawmakers in Congress, is using his platform after dropping out of the presidential race to turn out nonwhite voters for Trump. He plans to crisscross the country in the coming months to target voters in more than a half-dozen battleground states through a $14.3 million initiative funded by his Great Opportunity PAC.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere was always an undercurrent of conservatism in the black community, obviously in the social and faith spaces that we felt the most,\u201d said an aide assisting Scott, who declined to be named. \u201cI don\u2019t think anybody would ever say this about anything else, but Trump kind of gave a safe space for Republicans to enter and to talk about their platform with respect to conservatism and bringing more voters on board.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Jobs, justice, and education are what Scott views as the key to wooing black voters.<\/p>\n<p>President Joe Biden, meanwhile, is setting off alarm bells for Democrats by hemorrhaging support among voters of color in recent polling. His campaign, with the help of Vice President Kamala Harris, recently began a black voter outreach initiative.<\/p>\n<p>While the vast majority of black voters still back Biden, 77%, over Trump, 18%, according to recent Pew Research Center polling, the president is losing sizeable ground to his predecessor. Biden captured nearly 90% of the black vote in 2020.<\/p>\n<figure><figcaption>Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump listens as Sen. (AP Photo\/Andrew Harnik)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Speaking at the Black Conservative Federation Gala in South Carolina earlier this year, which Scott attended, Trump made his case to black voters that they can better relate to him than Biden thanks to his four indictments.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI got indicted a second time and a third time and a fourth time, and a lot of people said that that\u2019s why the black people like me, because they have been hurt so badly and discriminated against,\u201d Trump said. \u201cAnd they actually viewed me as I\u2019m being discriminated against. It\u2019s been pretty amazing.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think that\u2019s why the black people are so much on my side now, because they see what\u2019s happening to me happens to them. Does that make sense?\u201d Trump continued. \u201cMy mug shot, we\u2019ve all seen the mug shot. And you know who embraced it more than anybody else: the black population. It\u2019s incredible.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Trump and his allies in Congress have promised reinvigorated support in response to last week\u2019s guilty verdict in the hush money trial.<\/p>\n<p>Pressed on Trump\u2019s racially charged rhetoric possibly undermining his courting of black voters, Scott tried to flip the script, saying it is Democrats taking voters for granted based on the color of their skin with \u201clip service\u201d and failed economic promises.<\/p>\n<p>Scott pointed to comments made by Biden as a senator in 1977 about not wanting his children to be in a \u201cracial jungle\u201d when speaking about desegregation. He also referenced when, in 2012, the then-vice president claimed Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney would put black people \u201cback in chains.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>CLICK HERE TO READ MORE FROM THE WASHINGTON EXAMINER<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u201cComparatively speaking to President Trump, I\u2019ll take that fight every day of the week,\u201d Scott said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat has not been the case until recently is people actually taking a look at racism in the Democrat Party,\u201d he continued. \u201cA lot of black folks and minorities are moving towards the GOP because of the issues of jobs and justice.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p><\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Senator Tim Scott (R-SC) believes there is an increased chance to sway black voters to support Donald Trump following the presumptive GOP nominee&#8217;s felony conviction.
