The case ran into an iceberg when revelations emerged that Willis and her special prosecutor, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/fani-willis-allegedly-warned-nathan-wades-lawyer-keep-quiet-coming-us\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Nathan Wade<\/a>, had engaged in a romantic relationship.<\/p>\n<p>Fulton County Superior Court Judge Scott McAfee ruled against Trump\u2019s efforts to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/former-trump-prosecutor-offers-ridiculous-defense-relationship-fani-willis-happens-everyone\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">disqualify<\/a> Willis because of the fling, but Trump\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/brittney-griner-appeals-9-year-prison-sentence-after-being-found-guilty-on-drug-trafficking-and-possession-charges\/\" title=\"Brittney Griner Appeals 9-year Prison Sentence After Being Found Guilty On Drug Trafficking And Possession Charges\">legal team appealed<\/a> that ruling.<\/p>\n<p>On Wednesday, the Georgia Court of Appeals said nothing in the trial should move forward until an appellate panel determines whether Willis should be disqualified, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2024\/06\/05\/us\/trump-georgia-election-case-fani-willis.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The New York Times<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>A \u00a0representative for Willis declined to comment, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/time.com\/6986063\/court-halts-trumps-georgia-case-fani-willis\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Time<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Georgia Court of Appeals has properly stayed all proceedings against President Trump in the trial court pending its decision on our interlocutory appeal, which argues the case should be dismissed and Fulton County DA Willis should be disqualified for her misconduct,\u201d attorney Steve Sadow, representing Trump, said in a statement, according to the <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2024\/06\/05\/us-news\/trumps-election-interference-case-in-georgia-paused-pending-bid-to-disqualify-fani-willis\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">New York Post<\/a>.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">Fell right on her fanni! Appeals Court halts President Trump\u2019s bogus Georgia persecution, during the appeal of the order permitting Willis stay on. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/hlyUNYE6nS\">https:\/\/t.co\/hlyUNYE6nS<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Ken Fendler (@KenFendler) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/KenFendler\/status\/1798480043985064034?\">June 5, 2024<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The stay applies to Trump and eight co-defendants who sought to have Willis <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/fani-willis-throws-tantrum-jim-jordan-contempt-deadline-arrives\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">booted<\/a> from the case, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/news\/trump-georgia-case-fulton-county-halted\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">CBS<\/a>.<\/p>\n<div id=\"firefly-poll-container\">\n<p>Are you voting for Trump?<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p>The Times noted that oral arguments in the Willis case have been scheduled for Oct. 4, but the ruling could come months after that, ensuring that the Georgia case will not come to trial before the November election.<\/p>\n<p>Federal cases against Trump in Florida, where he faces allegations of mishandling classified documents, and Washington, where he faces allegations of election interference, both also appear unlikely to go to trial before the election.<\/p>\n<p>The Times report cited Anthony Michael Kreis, a law professor at Georgia State University, as saying that a ruling on the Willis issue must be reached by March 14.<\/p>\n<p>With everything on hold, McAfee cannot proceed with a motion Trump filed saying he should have presidential immunity from the Georgia case.<\/p>\n<p>Although the U.S. Supreme Court is expected to rule on the immunity issue this month, because the Georgia case is frozen, McAfee cannot rule on the request until after the Willis issue is decided.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf his ruling on that motion triggers a new round of appeals, Trump may wind up with a procedural reprieve that buys him time until a 2026 trial at this rate,\u201d Kreis said.<\/p>\n<hr>\n<div>\n<p><b><i>A Note from Our Deputy Managing Editor:<\/i><\/b><\/p>\n<p><i><span>I heard a chilling comment the other day: \u201cWe don\u2019t even know if an election will be held in 2024.\u201d <\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p><i><span>That wasn\u2019t said by a conspiracy theorist or a doomsday prophet.
