Despite an earlier directive to reinstate it two years ago, a clerical mistake pertaining to a child support issue in 2010 led to the ongoing license suspension for Harris.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"readmore\">\n    <button onclick=\"showReadMore()\" id=\"readmorebtn\">Read more&#8230;<\/button>\n<\/p>\n<hr id=\"line\">\n<span id=\"more\"><\/p>\n<div>\n<p>The Michigan man who went <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/nation\/2024\/05\/30\/zoom-court-hearing-suspended-driving-license\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>viral<\/a> after joining a Zoom court hearing for his suspended license while driving had his license suspension lifted by a judge in 2022, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/court\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>court<\/a> records show.<\/p>\n<p>The video showed Corey Harris, who was attending the May 15 hearing for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.usatoday.com\/story\/news\/nation\/2024\/06\/03\/corey-harris-suspended-license\/73963078007\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>charges<\/a> related to a traffic stop, was on camera driving his vehicle while asking the judge to \u201cjust give [him] one second\u201d while he parked. Responding To 10+ Homeless Tent Fires A Day\">court records<\/a>. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey were supposed to have lifted it two years ago, but they didn\u2019t,\u201d Harris said.<\/p>\n<p>Harris\u2019s license, which was <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2024\/06\/04\/us-news\/michigan-man-corey-harris-who-went-viral-for-appearing-at-zoom-hearing-for-suspended-license-while-driving-went-to-jail-over-clerical-error\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>suspended<\/a> in 2010 for reasons relating to a child support case, had not been reinstated despite the judge\u2019s order. Harris had <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/nation\/2024\/06\/05\/corey-harris-suspended-license-complicated\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>failed<\/a> to pay the $125 fee required for reinstatement at the time of the hearing.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou have to take that step to be reinstated. It\u2019s like you have to sign a check to make it good,\u201d Jeffrey Randa, a Michigan-based attorney, told the <em>Washington Post. <\/em>\u201cEven if a judge orders the suspension to be lifted, it doesn\u2019t take effect until he pays the reinstatement fee.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Whether Harris knew about the fee is \u201cunclear,\u201d according to the <em>Washington<\/em> <em>Post<\/em>. \u201cCourts often drop the ball all over the place, so nobody might have told him,\u201d Randa said.<\/p>\n<p>Harris, who was subject to a large amount of online ridicule after the video went viral, told WXYZ-TV that he was \u201cthinking about getting his wife medical help\u201d at the time of the hearing. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cI wasn\u2019t thinking about the fact that I got a suspended license.
