The referrals were addressed to\u200d Attorney General\u200d Merrick Garland and DOJ special counsel\u200d David \u2063Weiss. The letter highlighted instances \u2062of deception and called for charges of false statements and perjury against the Bidens.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"readmore\">\n    <button onclick=\"showReadMore()\" id=\"readmorebtn\">Read more&#8230;<\/button>\n<\/p>\n<hr id=\"line\">\n<span id=\"more\"><\/p>\n<header> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/news\/\">  News <\/a>   <span> <\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/author\/johnathanjones\/\">  <\/a> <\/p>\n<p> <span>   By <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/author\/johnathanjones\/%20\"><span>Johnathan Jones<\/span><\/a> <\/span> <span>   June 5, 2024 at 1:04pm <\/span> <\/span>  <\/header>\n<section>\n<p>House Republicans sent criminal referrals for James and Hunter Biden to the U.S. Department of Justice on Wednesday, accusing both of lying to Congress during testimony during the impeachment inquiry of President Joe Biden.<\/p>\n<p>In <a href=\"https:\/\/oversight.house.gov\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/06\/Criminal-Referral-6.5.24.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">a letter<\/a> addressed to both Attorney General <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/watch-ag-merrick-garland-scrambles-pressed-alvin-bragg-fani-willis-letitia-james-house-hearing\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Merrick Garland<\/a> and DOJ special counsel <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/trump-slams-hunter-biden-special-counsel-david-weiss-suggests-great-idea-replacement\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">David Weiss<\/a>, Reps. James Comer of Kentucky, Jim Jordan of Ohio, and Jason Smith of Missouri said \u201cHunter Biden and James Biden made materially false statements\u201d under oath.<\/p>\n<p>The letter said every instance of false statements in the testimony \u201cimplicates Joe Biden\u2019s knowledge of and role in his family\u2019s influence peddling.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The chairs of the Oversight and Accountability, Judiciary, and Ways and Means committees tied the alleged false statements to money earned by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/subpoenas-coming-biden-family-including-joe-hunter-rep-james-comer\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">the Biden family<\/a> overseas.<\/p>\n<p>The congressmen said testimony by James and Hunter Biden about the cash, which they said was part of the family\u2019s \u201cinfluence peddling\u201d scheme, was \u201cprovably false.\u201d<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">\ud83d\udea8 BREAKING \ud83d\udea8<\/p>\n<p>We Are Referring Hunter and James Biden for Criminal Prosecution<\/p>\n<p>Our Committee, along with <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/JudiciaryGOP?\">@JudiciaryGOP<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/WaysandMeansGOP?\">@WaysandMeansGOP<\/a>, today sent criminal referrals to the DOJ recommending Hunter and James Biden be charged with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/sidney-powell-is-an-american-legal-giant\/\" title=\"Sidney Powell Is an American Legal Giant\">making false statements<\/a> to Congress about\u2026 <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/gWM7S8grQm\">pic.twitter.com\/gWM7S8grQm<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Oversight Committee (@GOPoversight) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/GOPoversight\/status\/1798414592143421807?\">June 5, 2024<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>\u201cThe Committees attach to this letter a referral for criminal charges against Hunter Biden and James Biden, under 18 U.S.C. \u00a7 1001 (false statements), and, additionally, for Hunter Biden under 18 U.S.C. \u00a7 1621 (perjury),\u201d the letter said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs the attached referral shows, Hunter Biden and James Biden made provably false statements to the Oversight Committee and the Judiciary Committee about key aspects of the impeachment inquiry, in what appears to be a conscious effort to hinder the investigation\u2019s focus on President Joe Biden.\u201d<\/p>\n<div id=\"firefly-poll-container\">\n<p>Should the DOJ bring charges based on this recommendation?<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p>The letter accused <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/hunter-bidens-legal-team-throws-beaus-widow-bus-turning-trial-messy-biden-v-biden-affair\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Hunter Biden<\/a> of lying about his relationship to a business he is said to have used to funnel in money from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/issa-congress-must-probe-big-tech-media-collusion-in-shutting-down-hunter-biden-story-before-election\/\" title=\"Issa: Congress Must Probe Big Tech, Media Collusion in Shutting Down Hunter Biden Story Before Election\">overseas business deals<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHunter Biden made additional false statements as to whether he held positions at Rosemont Seneca Bohai, LLC. After deposing Hunter Biden, the Committees obtained documents showing Hunter Biden represented that he was the corporate secretary,\u201d the letter charged.<\/p>\n<p>The referral added:<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAdditionally, Hunter Biden during his testimony relayed an entirely fictitious account about threatening text messages he sent to his Chinese business partner while invoking his father\u2019s presence with him as he wrote the messages.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHunter Biden told the Oversight Committee and the Judiciary Committee he had transmitted this threat to an unrelated individual with the same surname. However, documents released by the Committee on Ways and Means demonstrate conclusively that Hunter Biden made this threat to the intended individual, and bank records prove Hunter Biden\u2019s Chinese business partners wired millions of dollars to him after his threat. A portion of the proceeds has been traced to Joe Biden\u2019s bank account.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>As it pertained to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/cbs-news-uncovers-150-banking-transactions-involving-hunter-james-biden-flagged-concerning\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">James Biden<\/a>, who is Joe Biden\u2019s brother, the letter said that he lied when he claimed under oath that he had never met with former Hunter Biden business associate Tony Bobulinski.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSpecifically, James Biden stated he did not attend a meeting with Joe Biden, Hunter Biden, and Tony Bobulinski on May 2, 2017 at the Beverly Hilton Hotel,\u201d House Republicans argued.<\/p>\n<p>The committee chairs called the alleged false testimony a \u201ccalculated\u201d and \u201cclumsy attempt\u201d to \u201cinsulate <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/joe-biden-directly-contradicts-past-comments-new-statement-hunters-trial\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Joe Biden<\/a> from the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/hunter-biden-is-willing-to-sit-for-deposition-lawyer-says\/\" title=\"Hunter Biden's lawyer confirms his willingness to be deposed\">duly authorized impeachment inquiry<\/a>.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The letter concluded that both Hunter and James Biden should be charged with making false statements and Hunter Biden should be charged with perjury.<\/p>\n<p>The committee chairs further asked Garland to weigh Hunter Biden\u2019s \u201cprior alleged criminal activity\u201d while considering an indictment and mentioned his two ongoing federal tax and gun trials.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBecause Hunter Biden was federally indicted in two different jurisdictions at the time of his Congressional deposition, he was also subject to two <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/republicans-demand-doj-charge-hunter-and-james-biden-for-lying-about-joes-role-in-influence-peddling-scheme\/\" title=\"Republicans are urging the DOJ to charge Hunter and James Biden for deceiving about Joe's involvement in an influence-peddling scheme\">federal court orders stating<\/a> that he could not commit any crimes while on federal supervised release,\u201d Comer, Jordan and Smith concluded.<\/p>\n<p>Garland did not immediately respond to the criminal referral.<\/p>\n<hr>\n<div>\n<p><b><i>A Note from Our Deputy Managing Editor:<\/i><\/b><\/p>\n<p><i><span>I heard a chilling comment the other day: \u201cWe don\u2019t even know if an election will be held in 2024.\u201d <\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p><i><span>That wasn\u2019t said by a conspiracy theorist or a doomsday prophet.
