Upper III<\/span><\/a> <\/span> <span>   June 5, 2024 at 11:11am <\/span> <\/span>  <\/header>\n<section>\n<p>Consumers and car dealers in Virginia are breathing a sigh of relief after Gov. Glenn Youngkin announced that the state would no longer be following California\u2019s lead in mandating the adoption of electric vehicles that very few people want.<\/p>\n<p>In 2021, then-Gov. Ralph signed into law a bill that tied Virginia\u2019s Air Board to California\u2019s \u201cAdvanced Clean Cars I\u201d regulation. But that regulation ends this year, supplanted by \u201cAdvanced Clean Cars II.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The new rule goes into effect on Jan. 1, and will require that 35 percent of model year 2026 cars in California be electric \u2014 and that percentage would rise annually, hitting 100 percent in 2035.<\/p>\n<p>And car dealers that knowingly violate the mandate would be subject to fines of $20,000 or more per vehicle.<\/p>\n<p>However, because of the wording of the Virginia law, the state is not required to adopt the new standards that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/gavin-newsom-celebrates-california-economy-twitter-gets-fact-checked-immediately\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">California<\/a>\u2019s government has decided to burden its residents with, Virginia Attorney General Jason Miyares said in an official opinion.<\/p>\n<p>Basically, the Virginia law states that the Air Board \u201cmay\u201d adopt the new, stricter standards, and the word \u201cmay\u201d implies that the Air Board also \u201cmay not\u201d choose to do so.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOnce again, Virginia is declaring independence \u2014 this time from a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/youngkin-says-virginia-will-exit-california-electric-vehicle-mandate\/\" title=\"Youngkin plans for Virginia to opt out of California's EV mandate\">misguided electric vehicle mandate imposed<\/a> by unelected leaders nearly 3,000 miles away from the Commonwealth,\u201d Gov. Glenn Youngkin said in a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.governor.virginia.gov\/newsroom\/news-releases\/2024\/june\/name-1028520-en.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">statement<\/a> from his office.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe idea that government should tell people what kind of car they can or can\u2019t purchase is fundamentally wrong,\u201d he added. \u201cVirginians deserve the freedom to choose which vehicles best fit the needs of their families and businesses. The law is clear, and I am proud to announce Virginians will no longer be forced to live under this out-of-touch policy.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Miyares agreed.<\/p>\n<div id=\"firefly-poll-container\">\n<p>Have you ever considered buying an electric vehicle?<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p>\u201cToday, I\u2019ve issued an official Attorney General Opinion that confirms that Virginians are no longer legally bound to follow the emission standards of California,\u201d he said in the same statement. \u201cEV mandates like California\u2019s are unworkable and out of touch with reality, and thankfully the law does not bind us to their regulations.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCalifornia does not control which cars Virginians buy and any thoughts that automobile manufacturers should face millions of dollars in civil penalties rather than allowing our citizens to choose their own vehicles is completely absurd,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, a poll published Tuesday by <a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/electric-vehicles-biden-charging-stations-poll-e0ba37aa081c0d3f1d824b07364d0bdb#:~:text=About%2032%25%20of%20those%20over,an%20EV%2C%20the%20poll%20shows.&#038;text=But%20only%2021%25%20of%20U.S.,as%20are%20other%20practical%20concerns\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The Associated Press<\/a> showed that the two men\u2019s thinking about <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/americans-send-biden-unmistakable-reality-check-electric-vehicle-push-new-poll\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">electric vehicles<\/a> was in line with a plurality of Americans.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAbout 4 in 10 U.S. adults say they would be at least somewhat likely to buy an EV the next time they buy a car, according to the poll by The Associated Press-NORC Center for Public Affairs Research and the Energy Policy Institute at the University of Chicago, while 46% say they are not too likely or not at all likely to purchase one,\u201d the AP reported.<\/p>\n<p>Worse, only 32 percent of adults over 45 \u2014 you know, the ones with the money \u2014 say they\u2019re \u201csomewhat\u201d likely to buy an EV next time they\u2019re in the market for a car.<\/p>\n<p>And those numbers are likely exaggerated, as many respondents either said they\u2019d consider an EV because the left has been screaming at them about how that\u2019s the only responsible thing to do, or said they\u2019d \u201cconsider\u201d it the same way I would \u2014 for about eight seconds, before I move along to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/3-recent-failures-of-green-energy-policies\/\" title=\"3 Recent Failures of Green Energy Policies\">gas-powered cars<\/a>. At least until issues like <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/journalists-go-electric-truck-nightmare-completely-run-battery\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">battery life<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/colossal-failure-bidens-7-5b-ev-infrastructure-yet-produce-one-single-charger\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">charging infrastructure<\/a> and cost are dealt with.<\/p>\n<p>The outlet noted that President Joe Biden\u2019s push to force Americans to adopt electric vehicles despite their reluctance to do so may cause him problems in an election year.<\/p>\n<p>His presumptive opponent, former President Donald Trump, has already been turning into an issue in the 2024 presidential campaign, the AP reported.<\/p>\n<hr>\n<div>\n<p><b><i>An Important Message from Our Staff:<\/i><\/b><\/p>\n<p><i><span>In just a few months, the world is going to change forever.
