Trump\u2019s polling numbers were unaffected, with support holding steady at 44 percent support since the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.realclearpolitics.com\/docs\/2024\/Morning_Consult_General_Election_Tracker_May_3-5_2024.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">beginning of May<\/a>. <\/p>\n<p>The poll included over 10,000 registered voters. Other polls have <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/californians-are-leaving-heres-where-theyre-going\/\" title=\"Californians Are Leaving. Here\u2019s Where They\u2019re Going.\">yielded similar results<\/a>. An <a href=\"https:\/\/issuesinsights.com\/2024\/06\/03\/despite-court-guilty-verdict-trump-gains-on-biden-in-court-of-voter-opinion-ii-tipp-poll\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">I&#038;I\/TIPP<\/a> poll also showed declining numbers for Biden this month, with Trump support on the rise.<\/p>\n<p>These numbers indicate a potential\u00a0backfire for the Biden\u00a0team, which used the trial and Trump\u2019s convictions as campaign fodder. <\/p>\n<p>The Biden campaign previously <a href=\"https:\/\/www.axios.com\/2024\/05\/28\/biden-campaign-trump-trial-2024-new-york\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">set up shop outside of the courtroom<\/a> while closing arguments in the Trump trial were taking place. They enlisted actor and notorious Trump-hater Robert De Niro, along with two Jan. 6 police officers, to deliver remarks to the crowd. The Biden campaign insisted that the press conference was not about the ongoing trial while explicitly referencing the trial as reason to support Biden and oppose Trump.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou\u2019ve been incessantly covering this, day in and day out,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.com\/news\/2024\/05\/28\/biden-campaign-robert-de-niro-trump-trial-courthouse-00160139\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">said<\/a> Communications Director Michael Tyler, referencing the\u00a0show trial. \u201cAnd we want to remind the American people ahead of the next debate, the first debate on June 27, of the unique, persistent and growing threat that Donald Trump poses to the American people and to our democracy.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Not only did Biden seek to capitalize on the courthouse\u2019s media presence, he immediately campaigned aggressively on the verdict. His campaign issued multiple tweets celebrating the verdict, accusing Trump of \u201cthreatening our democracy,\u201d and pushing out fundraising links. <\/p>\n<div>\n<figure>\n<p><span><\/p>\n<blockquote data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">President Biden: The American principle that no one is above the law was reaffirmed. Amid this weaponization of the justice system, voters have thrown increasing support behind Trump. Actor Dennis Quaid <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2024\/05\/29\/dennis-quaid-says-weaponization-of-our-justice-system-convinced-him-to-support-trump\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">shared this sentiment<\/a> last week, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=UPxS-l0F5sg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">telling Piers Morgan<\/a> he would be supporting Trump in the 2024 presidential election. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cI was ready not to vote for Trump, until what I saw is, more than politics, I see a weaponization of our justice system and a challenge to our Constitution,\u201d Quaid said.<\/p>\n<p>Many others feel the same. Countless voters <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2024\/05\/31\/ex-democrats-independents-and-newbie-donors-throw-cash-at-trump-after-manhattan-show-trial\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">took to X<\/a> to share that the trial had turned them into Trump supporters, and many reported making first-time donations to the Trump campaign. The WinRed platform <a href=\"https:\/\/www.axios.com\/2024\/05\/31\/trump-donation-site-crashes-trial-conviction\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">crashed<\/a> amidst a <a href=\"https:\/\/trends.google.com\/trends\/explore?date=now%207-d&#038;geo=US&#038;q=winred\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">spike in Google searches<\/a> for the former president\u2019s fundraising platform.<\/p>\n<p>If the Biden campaign hoped Trump\u2019s felony convictions would bolster their reelection efforts, the public response to the trial is not living up to those expectations. <\/p>\n<hr>\n<p>      Monroe Harless is a summer intern at The Federalist.
