But despite Trump\u2019s legal costs, Biden\u2019s cash on hand advantage could be gone.<\/p>\n<p>Trump\u2019s conviction has \u201cgreatly motivated\u201d the former president\u2019s base, and \u201cdonors are definitionally a key part of that base,\u201d according to Dan\u00a0Schnur, communications director of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/john-mccain\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Arizona Republican Sen. John McCain<\/a>\u2018s 2000 presidential campaign.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSo there\u2019s no surprise that his fundraising numbers have skyrocketed,\u201d Schnur, now a University of Southern California professor, told the <em>Washington Examiner<\/em>. \u201cThere\u2019s no way to guess yet whether the Trump campaign can also use the trial to reach undecided voters, but all that extra money certainly does not hurt.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Trump campaign claims the former president and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/republican-national-committee\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>Republican National Committee<\/a> raised $141 million last month, including $53 million during the first 24 hours after last week\u2019s conviction. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe American people saw right through Crooked Joe Biden\u2019s rigged\u00a0trial, and\u00a0sent Biden and Democrats a powerful message \u2014 the REAL verdict will come on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/2024-elections\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>November 5th<\/a>,\u201d Trump campaign managers Chris\u00a0LaCivita\u00a0and Susie Wiles wrote in a statement. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cBased on these record contribution numbers, and polling, it didn\u2019t work because voters understand the clear contrast between Donald J. Trump\u2019s record of success, and Joe Biden\u2019s failures,\u201d RNC Chairman Michael Whatley and Co-Chairwoman <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/Lara-Trump\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>Lara Trump<\/a> added separately.<\/p>\n<p>Concerning for the Biden campaign, its Trump counterpart says 25% of its May donors were first-time contributors, whom they can ask for more money in the future. That is on top of billionaires who had not expressed their support for him until recently, including the widow of Las Vegas Sands founder Sheldon\u00a0Adelson, Miriam, Blackstone CEO Steve Schwarzman, hedge fund manager Bill Ackman, and investor Nelson Peltz.<\/p>\n<p>In comparison, the Biden campaign has remained mum on the president\u2019s numbers before the next Federal Election Commission deadline this month after previously spinning his edge before a cycle expected to cost billions of dollars in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/advertising\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>ads<\/a> and grassroots organizing amid a lack of enthusiasm for both candidates.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019ll see how the numbers actually shake out come July, but one thing\u2019s for certain: Trump\u2019s billionaire friends are propping up the campaign of a white-collar crook because they know the deal \u2014 they cut him checks and he cuts their <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/taxes\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>taxes<\/a> while working people and the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/middle-class\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>middle class<\/a> pay the tab,\u201d Biden campaign spokesman Ammar Moussa told the <em>Washington Examiner<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>A Biden campaign source familiar with the president\u2019s fundraising dismissed concerns about his numbers. The person contended the 24 hours after Donald Trump\u2019s conviction were also one of Biden\u2019s best fundraising days since he launched his reelection bid last April, but they did not provide any data.<\/p>\n<p>At the same time, it is estimated that Trump political action committees MAGA PAC and Save America have spent about $100 million so far on the former president\u2019s legal cases. With Save America, a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/trump-names-republicans-in-house-and-senate-that-he-is-going-after-gives-special-attention-to-one\/\" title=\"Trump Names Republicans In House And Senate That He Is Going After, Gives Special Attention To One\">leadership committee<\/a>, running out of money, Donald Trump reached a joint fundraising agreement with the RNC in March in which\u00a0the RNC would\u00a0prioritize providing funds to Save America over itself.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEverybody has an option whenever they donate to our joint fundraising agreement to opt out of it,\u201d Lara Trump told CNN last weekend when asked about donors paying for Donald Trump\u2019s legal defense. \u201cIt is a very small percentage of the money that we take in. And so, I would have to say, we\u2019ll wait and see what is necessary in the future. Obviously, this has been a very costly thing \u2014 not just for Donald Trump and his campaign but for America.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Earlier this year, the Trump campaign committees disclosed to the FEC that they had raised $120.5 million as of April 30, with $49 million cash on hand and $719,000 in debts, according to political money tracker OpenSecrets. When <a href=\"https:\/\/www.opensecrets.org\/2024-presidential-race\/donald-trump\/candidate?id=N00023864\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>taking into account outside Trump groups<\/a> that have different disclosure deadlines, those numbers increased to $244 million raised and $107.5 million cash on hand as of May 21. Thirty-one percent of his donations came from contributions of less than $200.<\/p>\n<p>In contrast, the Biden campaign had raised $195 million, with $84.5 million cash on hand, at the end of April, increasing to $306 million and $159 million, respectively,<a href=\"https:\/\/www.opensecrets.org\/2024-presidential-race\/joe-biden\/candidate?id=N00001669\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title> when outside organizations<\/a> reported in May. Forty-six percent of his donations comprised small-donor contributions.<\/p>\n<p>Before July, Biden could repeat some of the success he experienced with his <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/eric-clapton-helps-rfk-jr-raise-2-2-million-at-los-angeles-fundraiser\/\" title=\"Eric Clapton aids RFK Jr. in raising .2M at LA fundraiser.\">star-studded fundraiser<\/a> with former Presidents <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/barack-obama\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>Barack Obama<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/bill-clinton\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>Bill Clinton<\/a> in New York in March. He has another blockbuster event on his books with Obama, late-night host <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/jimmy-kimmel\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>Jimmy Kimmel<\/a>, in addition to actors <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/george-clooney\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>George Clooney<\/a> and Julia Roberts, in Los Angeles on June 15. But Biden\u2019s record-breaking New York fundraiser only raised $26 million, overshadowed a week later by a gathering for Donald Trump organized by another <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/elon-musk-trolls-the-onion-by-promoting-the-babylon-bee\/\" title=\"Elon Musk Trolls The Onion By Promoting The Babylon Bee\">billionaire hedge fund manager<\/a>, John Paulson, in\u00a0Palm Beach, Florida, that raised $50.5 million.<\/p>\n<p>Regardless, former aide for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/chuck-schumer\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer<\/a> (D-NY) and <em>Aggressive Progressive<\/em> podcast host Christopher Hahn projected optimism about Biden\u2019s prospects before November.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m not worried,\u201d Hahn told the <em>Washington Examiner<\/em>. \u201c[Donald Trump] squandered the opportunity to organize in swing states and has been closing outreach offices while diverting campaign funds to his personal legal issues. You can\u2019t make up for that with more ads.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBiden needs to take a [page] out of the Bill Clinton playbook,\u201d he said. \u201cHe needs to show the voters he feels their pain. While the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/economy\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>U.S. economy<\/a> avoided a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/recession\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>recession<\/a> and is doing better than any other on the planet, that\u2019s little comfort to voters <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/inflation\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>paying more for everyday items<\/a> like groceries and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/biden-moves-to-force-doctors-to-perform-transgender-surgeries-against-objections\/\" title=\"Biden Moves To Force Doctors To Perform Transgender Surgeries Against Objections\u00a0\">young people struggling<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/housing\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>to buy a home<\/a>. Biden must acknowledge the problem and assure voters it\u2019s a top priority.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Biden appeared to take Hahn\u2019s advice during his first post-conviction fundraiser this week. There, he told donors in Greenwich, Connecticut, \u201cWe\u2019ve made a lot of progress, and we can create even more progress, but we\u2019ve got to keep it going.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>But Biden also criticized Donald Trump for his rhetoric post-conviction and about his other ongoing legal matters in comments underscored by the White House in excerpts.
