He\u2019s been Teflon Don his entire life. He has been getting away with cheating and lying and doing things and criminal acts for all this time.\u201d<\/p>\n<div class=\"fdrlst__b89e9-paragraph-2-long d-flex justify-content-center\" style=\"margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center; \" id=\"fdrlst__b89e9-731469369\">\n<div id=\"div-gpt-ad-1379703300879-0\" class=\"mb-30\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"fdrlst__b89e9-99b048b7a340d51e1bef5a2d55cc9442 fdrlst__b89e9-paragraph-2\" id=\"fdrlst__b89e9-99b048b7a340d51e1bef5a2d55cc9442\"><\/div>\n<p>Alex Shephard <a href=\"https:\/\/newrepublic.com\/article\/182055\/trump-conviction-34-felonies-hush-money-unsatisfying\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">wrote<\/a> much of the same for The New Republic. \u201cThe hush-money trial gets at some of that.\u2026 Was Trump trying to manipulate the election? Was he trying to hide an affair from his wife? Was it a little bit of column A and column B? We\u2019ll never know precisely,\u201d Shephard said. \u201cWhat is clear is that Trump is crooked and more than a little sleazy \u2014 two things that have been part of his self-image, to varying degrees, since he first became a public figure more than 40 years ago.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>To Navarro, Shephard, and many others, the fact that Trump <em>seems <\/em>politically unpalatable and criminal is proof he deserves to be convicted of <em>some sort of crime<\/em>,<em> <\/em>whatever that may be. <\/p>\n<p>Not only is this sentiment unprincipled \u2014 it is dangerous. Individuals who share Navarro and Shephard\u2019s view may believe they are celebrating the conviction of a politician they dislike. What they are actually celebrating is the erosion of democratic norms and the decline of a neutral justice system. <\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>This Isn\u2019t Just About Trump<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>The weaponization of our justice system didn\u2019t start with Trump, and it won\u2019t end with him either. <\/p>\n<div class=\"fdrlst__b89e9-10108b83897d177310c143a40532f7d6 fdrlst__b89e9-paragraph-6\" id=\"fdrlst__b89e9-10108b83897d177310c143a40532f7d6\"><\/div>\n<p>Paulette Harlow, an elderly woman who participated in a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/seattle-suburb-backs-down-from-ban-on-abortion-clinic-protesters\/\" title=\"Seattle Suburb Backs Down From Ban on Abortion Clinic Protesters\">pro-life protest<\/a> at a Washington, D.C., abortion clinic in 2020, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.justice.gov\/opa\/pr\/final-defendant-sentenced-federal-conspiracy-against-rights-and-freedom-access-clinic\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">was sentenced to two years in prison on Friday<\/a>. She is 75 years old, a grandmother of eight, and in declining health. Her <a href=\"https:\/\/www.liveaction.org\/news\/elderly-prolifers-husband-begs-mercy-prison\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">husband has expressed fear<\/a> that Harlow will die in prison.<\/p>\n<p>The sentence comes after Harlow and nine others planned and carried out a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.justice.gov\/opa\/pr\/final-defendant-sentenced-federal-conspiracy-against-rights-and-freedom-access-clinic\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">peaceful demonstration at the Washington Surgi-Clinic abortion facility<\/a>. The group was protesting late-term abortionist Cesare Santangelo, who was <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=up5NctuBCmk\">previously <\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=up5NctuBCmk\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">recorded<\/a> by pro-life organization Live Action admitting he would leave a baby to die if the infant were born alive during a failed abortion. <\/p>\n<p>Government attorney Rebecca Ross claimed the case was not about Harlow\u2019s pro-life beliefs, but her statement to the court reveals the opposite. Ross portrays Harlow and the other protestors as void of \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.liveaction.org\/news\/elderly-prolifers-husband-begs-mercy-prison\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">compassion<\/a>\u201d for women attempting to abort their children and goes on to recommend a sentence of over three years. <\/p>\n<p>But to say Harlow\u2019s actions were lacking in empathy is not fact. It is a case against Harlow\u2019s pro-life beliefs, which <a href=\"https:\/\/www.liveaction.org\/news\/elderly-prolifers-husband-begs-mercy-prison\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">she articulated<\/a> in her own statement to the court. <\/p>\n<div class=\"fdrlst__b89e9-73c0d43c8fc457b045d7031b49937552 fdrlst__b89e9-paragraph-10\" id=\"fdrlst__b89e9-73c0d43c8fc457b045d7031b49937552\"><\/div>\n<p>\u201cWe were there because we are compassionate, we do care, and we love them,\u201d she said. \u201cIt\u2019s despicable that in this country we have pregnant women and we can\u2019t do anything to help them except offer to kill their child. That\u2019s not help at all.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>If the prosecution of Harlow were truly about the \u201cviolent obstruction of reproductive healthcare\u201d and \u201cthe civil rights of others,\u201d as Ross claimed, we would be witnessing the equal prosecution of violent pro-abortion activists, who have <a href=\"https:\/\/www.catholicnewsagency.com\/news\/251553\/map-vandalism-attacks-continue-at-pro-life-centers-across-us\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">committed<\/a> vandalism, property damage, theft, and arson <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailysignal.com\/2023\/04\/03\/exclusive-lawmakers-call-defund-face-act\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">with increasing frequency<\/a> since <em>Roe <\/em>was overturned in June of 2022. Pro-life and pro-abortion individuals would rest assured that justice is impartial and the rule of law is upheld. <\/p>\n<p>Instead, prosecutions of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/supreme-court-of-mexico-decriminalizes-abortion\/\" title=\"Supreme Court Of Mexico Decriminalizes Abortion\">pro-abortion violence<\/a> have been few and far between. Meanwhile, the Department of Justice has aggressively <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailysignal.com\/2023\/04\/03\/exclusive-lawmakers-call-defund-face-act\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">pursued<\/a> FACE Act prosecutions against pro-lifers at the direction of the Biden administration. In a Department of Justice <a href=\"https:\/\/www.justice.gov\/crt\/recent-cases-violence-against-reproductive-health-care-providers\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">report compiling recent FACE Act-related prosecutions<\/a>, only one of the 33 cases prosecuted violence against a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/post-roe-pro-life-activists-vow-to-protect-mothers-and-babies-while-planned-parenthood-touts-more-at-home-abortions\/\" title=\"Post-Roe: Pro-Life Activists Vow to Protect Mothers and Babies While Planned Parenthood Touts More At-Home Abortions\">pro-life pregnancy center<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>That\u2019s no mistake. If Lady Justice ever wore a blindfold, it has long since been removed. <\/p>\n<p>The left is unable to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/schiff-employs-roe-v-wade-draft-to-appeal-for-court-packing-i-dont-care-how-the-draft-leaked\/\" title=\"Schiff Employs Roe v. Wade Draft to Appeal For Court-Packing: \u201cI Don\u2019t Care How the Draft Leaked\u201d\">legalize abortion nationwide<\/a>, so they hijack the federal court system and persecute pro-lifers. They are unable to thwart Trump\u2019s growing prospects in the 2024 presidential elections, so they use the courts to prosecute him as well.  <\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>A Hijacked Court System<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>These types of political prosecutions mark the descent of the American legal system into the very type of politicization our Founding Fathers warned against. Such a warning was provided by Alexander Hamilton in <a href=\"https:\/\/guides.loc.gov\/federalist-papers\/text-71-80\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Federalist Paper No. 78<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>For I agree, that \u201cthere is no liberty, if the power of judging be not separated from the legislative and executive powers.\u201d And it proves, in the last place, that \u2026 liberty can have nothing to fear from the judiciary alone, but would have every thing to fear from its union with either of the other departments.\u2026\u201d The complete independence of the courts of justice is peculiarly essential in a limited Constitution. <\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>As Hamilton correctly observed, an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/republican-ohio-speaker-shuts-down-gop-lawmakers-trying-to-block-courts-from-interpreting-states-abortion-rights-amendment\/\" title=\"Republican Ohio speaker shuts down GOP lawmakers trying to block courts from interpreting state's abortion rights amendment\">independent judicial system<\/a> is no threat to the American people. A judicial system hijacked by individuals within the executive and legislative branches is the greatest threat of all. This is the very threat we presently face. If the downward spiral continues, our rights and privileges \u2014 namely, our right to vocally disagree with the federal government \u2014 will amount to nothing. <\/p>\n<p>In the meantime, the politicization of our courts isn\u2019t consequence-free. <\/p>\n<p>A <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ipsos.com\/en-us\/trump-guilty-verdict-makes-minimal-impact-public-opinion\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">recent Ipsos poll<\/a> revealed that 47 percent of people think Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg\u2019s charges against Trump were politically motivated. If ever there was a vote of no-confidence in the American court system, this is it. Public trust in the justice system is broken, and it\u2019s not just Trump supporters who are concerned. <\/p>\n<p>Frequent Trump critic Mitt Romney accused Democrats of \u201cpolitical malpractice\u201d and said Biden should have issued a pardon. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cBragg should have settled the case against Trump, as would have been the normal procedure. But he made a political decision,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/mckaycoppins\/status\/1796896503018992039\">Romney told Atlantic writer McKay Coppins<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>CNN\u2019s legal analyst Elie Honig <a href=\"https:\/\/nymag.com\/intelligencer\/article\/trump-was-convicted-but-prosecutors-contorted-the-law.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">called out the corruption <\/a>of the trial even more plainly.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe judge donated money \u2026 in plain violation of a rule prohibiting New York judges from making political donations of any kind \u2014 to a pro-Biden, anti-Trump political operation,\u201d said Honig. The \u201cManhattan DA\u2019s employees reportedly have called this the \u2018Zombie Case\u2019 because of various legal infirmities, including its bizarre charging mechanism. But it\u2019s better characterized as the Frankenstein Case, cobbled together with ill-fitting parts into an ugly, awkward, but more-or-less functioning contraption that just might ultimately turn on its creator.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>But it is not only high-profile individuals and politicians who should be concerned. After all, the attack on Trump, Harlow, and others who defy left-wing ideology isn\u2019t just an attack on them. It is and always has been an attack on what they stand for and the people they represent. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn the end, they\u2019re not coming after me,\u201d Trump <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=rQCKAA2WMkA\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">told a crowd<\/a> at the Georgia Republican Party\u2019s annual convention in 2023. \u201cThey\u2019re coming after you, and I\u2019m just standing in the way.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He has repeated the sentiment many times since. Love him or hate him, he\u2019s right. We are not looking at a slippery slope. We are tumbling down it. An America with a hijacked court system is an America where no dissenting opinion is safe. <\/p>\n<p>If you ever plan to disagree with the federal government\u2019s status quo, you have a responsibility to stand up to tyranny now. They may be after Donald Trump today, but they will come after you eventually.
