Representative\u200d Chip Roy \u2063introduced the bill in response to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/us-would-not-support-icc-arrest-warrants-against-israeli-leaders\/\" title=\"The US opposes ICC arrest warrants for Israeli leaders\">potential arrest warrants<\/a> for Israeli officials by the ICC.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"readmore\">\n    <button onclick=\"showReadMore()\" id=\"readmorebtn\">Read more&#8230;<\/button>\n<\/p>\n<hr id=\"line\">\n<span id=\"more\"><\/p>\n<p>The GOP-led <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/topic\/u-s-house-of-representatives\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">House<\/a> passed on Wednesday a bill threatening to impose sanctions on the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/topic\/international-criminal-court\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">International Criminal Court<\/a> (ICC) after its chief prosecutor <a href=\"https:\/\/www.icc-cpi.int\/news\/statement-icc-prosecutor-karim-aa-khan-kc-applications-arrest-warrants-situation-state\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">requested<\/a> arrest warrants against Israeli leaders.<\/p>\n<p>Forty-two Democrats <a href=\"https:\/\/clerk.house.gov\/Votes\/2024242\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">joined<\/a> with 205 Republicans in voting to pass the Illegitimate Court Counteraction Act, sending the legislation to the Senate. President Joe Biden <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/nicholaswu12\/status\/1797727903175807367\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">opposes<\/a> the bill despite <a href=\"https:\/\/www.whitehouse.gov\/briefing-room\/statements-releases\/2024\/05\/20\/statement-from-president-joe-biden-on-the-warrant-applications-by-the-international-criminal-court\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">blasting<\/a> the warrant applications.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.congress.gov\/bill\/118th-congress\/house-bill\/8282\/text\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">legislation<\/a> would \u201cimpose sanctions with respect to the International Criminal Court engaged in any effort to investigate, arrest, detain, or prosecute any protected person of the United States and its allies.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Penalties listed in the bill would have the president implement restrictions on transactions of property and interests within the United States, as well as visas, admission, or parole of anyone who is linked to offending actions by the ICC.<\/p>\n<p>Reps. Chip Roy (R-TX) <a href=\"https:\/\/roy.house.gov\/media\/press-releases\/reps-roy-and-mast-demand-sanctions-icc-officials-going-after-us-israel\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">introduced<\/a> the sanctions bill early last month, citing reports indicating that the ICC was prepared to issue arrest warrants against Israeli officials in response to the war in the Gaza Strip.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis sends a strong message to the ICC that we will not tolerate their outrageous attacks on Israel,\u201d Roy said in a <a href=\"https:\/\/roy.house.gov\/media\/press-releases\/rep-roy-issues-statement-illegitimate-court-counteraction-act-hr-8282\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">statement<\/a> on Tuesday after his bill passed the House.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBut let\u2019s be clear, this isn\u2019t just about Israel, this is about ensuring that our nation\u2019s sovereignty is protected, as well as our servicemembers,\u201d Roy added. \u201cAbsent decisive leadership at the White House, Congress must stand in the breach defending our allies and our sovereignty.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><b><a href=\"https:\/\/onelink.to\/dwapp\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" aria-describedby=\"sk-tooltip-9096\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/onelink.to\/dwapp&#038;source=gmail&#038;ust=1716990157394000&#038;usg=AOvVaw33qQydjIo8bet419amChif\">CLICK HERE TO GET THE DAILYWIRE+ APP<\/a><\/b><\/p>\n<p>Roughly two weeks ago,\u00a0ICC chief prosecutor Karim Khan <a href=\"https:\/\/www.icc-cpi.int\/news\/statement-icc-prosecutor-karim-aa-khan-kc-applications-arrest-warrants-situation-state\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">requested<\/a> arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant, in addition to Hamas leaders, drawing bipartisan criticism among U.S. leaders.<\/p>\n<p>Biden <a href=\"https:\/\/www.whitehouse.gov\/briefing-room\/statements-releases\/2024\/05\/20\/statement-from-president-joe-biden-on-the-warrant-applications-by-the-international-criminal-court\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">called<\/a> the applications for arrest warrants against Israeli leaders \u201coutrageous.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>However, the White House <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/nicholaswu12\/status\/1797727903175807367\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">released<\/a> a statement of policy that opposed Roy\u2019s bill, saying there are \u201cmore effective ways\u201d in which the United States could respond.<\/p>\n<p>The Democrat-controlled Senate may not even bring the ICC sanctions legislation up for consideration.
