We will be challenging\u2026<\/p>\n<p>\u2014 ACLU (@ACLU) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/ACLU\/status\/1798030753336578426?\">June 4, 2024<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The ACLU was not alone in its criticism of Biden\u2019s actions.<\/p>\n<p>Although many Democrats will hail the Biden administration\u2019s executive action as an attempt to outflank the Republican Party, Biden, through his policy, is \u201cscrewing over actual asylum-seekers who he promised to support,\u201d former MSNBC host Mehdi Hasan <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/mehdirhasan\/status\/1798062947241263474\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">wrote<\/a> on X.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">Lots of Dems today will celebrate this as Biden playing 3-D chess on the border and outflanking the GOP. He\u2019s not. Nydia Velazquez of New York expressed disappointment with Biden\u2019s decision. \u201cWe need comprehensive immigration reform, not a return of Trump-era policies,\u201d the congresswoman wrote in a Tuesday post on X.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">I\u2019m extremely disappointed with this decision by <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/POTUS?\">@POTUS<\/a>. We need comprehensive immigration reform, not a return of Trump-era policies.<\/p>\n<p>The right to seek asylum is fundamental in the United States, and we must never abandon that idea.<a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/xC6dx6NC5R\">https:\/\/t.co\/xC6dx6NC5R<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Rep. Nydia Velazquez (@NydiaVelazquez) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/NydiaVelazquez\/status\/1798100883257069757?\">June 4, 2024<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>\u201cThe right to seek asylum is fundamental in the United States, and we must never abandon that idea,\u201d Velazquez added.<\/p>\n<p>The president\u2019s executive action will put a hold on the processing of asylum applications for those who breach the border illegally.<\/p>\n<p>According to a Tuesday <a href=\"https:\/\/www.whitehouse.gov\/briefing-room\/statements-releases\/2024\/06\/04\/fact-sheet-president-biden-announces-new-actions-to-secure-the-border\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">news release<\/a> from the White House, the objective of the executive action is to \u201cmake it easier for immigration officers to quickly remove individuals who do not have a legal basis to remain in the United States.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The White House, however, stressed in its statement that the decision is a temporary measure that will be \u201cdiscontinued when the number of migrants who cross the border between ports of entry is low enough for America\u2019s system to safely and effectively manage border operations.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThese actions also include similar humanitarian exceptions to those included in the bipartisan border agreement announced in the Senate, including those for unaccompanied children and victims of trafficking,\u201d the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/ariz-attorney-general-seeks-temporary-restraining-order-on-bidens-vaccine-mandate\/\" title=\"Ariz. Attorney General seeks temporary restraining order on Biden\u2019s vaccine mandate\">news release stated<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The White House, according to reporting from the <a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/biden-immigration-executive-order-asylum-border-7cd0b0f28e298036ad1fc6b0c78961e1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Associated Press<\/a>, had briefed members of Congress before his public announcement that he would sign the executive order.<\/p>\n<p>The border closures would be triggered once the average rate of daily encounters of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/biden-roasted-literally-selling-border-wall-illegal-migrants-flood-country\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">illegal migrants<\/a> by border patrol officers hit 2,500 for seven consecutive days. Tuesday\u2019s announcement indicated that these conditions had been met and that the executive order would go into effect at 12:01 a.m. on Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p>Once the encounters fall below 1,500 for seven consecutive days, the borders may be reopened.<\/p>\n<p>When the borders are closed, border officers are permitted to send illegal immigrants back to Mexico or their countries of origin within hours or days, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2024\/06\/04\/us\/politics\/biden-executive-order-border-asylum.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">New York Times<\/a> reported.<\/p>\n<p>According to the Times, Biden\u2019s executive order is similar to prior legislation that Republicans, encouraged by former President and presumptive Republican presidential nominee <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/bidens-tiktok-calling-trump-racist-backfires-immediately-people-highlight-real-campaign-issue\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Donald Trump<\/a>, voted down in February, citing a lack of efficacy.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDonald Trump begged them to vote \u2018no\u2019 because he was worried that more border enforcement would hurt him politically,\u201d White House spokesman Andrew Bates claimed on Tuesday, the Times reported.<\/p>\n<p>Trump, according to the outlet, had previously tried to shut down the border to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/texas-refuses-bidens-request-to-help-with-covid-19-testing-at-border\/\" title=\"Texas Refuses Biden\u2019s Request to Help With COVID-19 Testing at Border\">illegal immigrants claiming asylum<\/a>, attempts which succeeded only during the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, when he was able to use pandemic-era regulations to shutter the border.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAfter nearly four years of his failed, weak, leadership \u2014 pathetic leadership \u2014 Crooked Joe Biden is pretending to finally do something about the border,\u201d Trump said in a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/trump-responds-bidens-new-mass-amnesty-border-policy\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">video shared on Truth Social<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBut in fact, it\u2019s all about show, because he knows we have a debate coming up in three weeks,\u201d Trump added.<\/p>\n<hr>\n<div>\n<p><b><i>A Note from Our Deputy Managing Editor:<\/i><\/b><\/p>\n<p><i><span>\u201cWe don\u2019t even know if an election will be held in 2024.\u201d Those 12 words have been stuck in my head since I first read them. <\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p><i><span>Former Lt.
