Issues arose when \u200bthe \u2062company \u200cshared data without\u200c notifying\u200d Trump, leading to judicial concerns about potential bias in favor\u200b of the ex-president.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"readmore\">\n    <button onclick=\"showReadMore()\" id=\"readmorebtn\">Read more&#8230;<\/button>\n<\/p>\n<hr id=\"line\">\n<span id=\"more\"><\/p>\n<div data-td-block-uid=\"tdi_79\">\n<p>A year after federal courts forced the company formerly known as Twitter to hand over data to special counsel Jack Smith pertaining to former President <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/donald-trump\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>Donald Trump\u2019s<\/a> account, the company is asking the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/supreme-court\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>Supreme Court<\/a> to prevent a similar reoccurrence.<\/p>\n<p>X Corp. is asking the justices whether <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/the-new-acting-attorney-general-jeff-rosen-recently-wrote-an-essay-on-foreign-influence-in-us-elections-this-tells-us-a-little-about-his-knowledge-of-whats-going-on-today\/\" title=\"The New Acting Attorney General Jeff Rosen Recently Wrote an Essay on Foreign Influence in US Elections \u2013 This Tells Us A Little About His Knowledge of What\u2019s Going On Today\">social media platforms<\/a> can be forced to share data about their users with the government while being disabled from informing those users about the requests.<\/p>\n<p>The company shared information when Smith asked for Trump\u2019s social media account data without the latter\u2019s knowledge. X, owned by Elon Musk, tried to delay Smith from obtaining the data initially, but its bid failed.<\/p>\n<p>The federal judge presiding over that case wondered whether the company was trying to \u201ccozy up\u201d to the former president \u2014 allegations that Musk has faced before. Musk recently used similar Trump-supporting <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/elonmusk\/status\/1796440638617244012\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>rhetoric<\/a> as many Republicans, insinuating his felony conviction in his New York trial was \u201cmotivated by politics.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Trump was <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wsj.com\/politics\/donald-trump-elon-musk-alliance-d1fe43e3\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>reportedly<\/a> weighing an advisory role for Musk if he wins back the White House, but Musk <a href=\"https:\/\/www.usnews.com\/news\/top-news\/articles\/2024-05-30\/elon-musk-rules-out-discussions-over-potential-role-in-trump-presidency\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>quashed<\/a> the rumors, saying, \u201cThere have not been any discussions of a role for me in a potential Trump Presidency.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>X Corp.\u2019s issue is not disputing the government\u2019s power to have Trump\u2019s records \u2014 the government could\u2019ve pulled his social media records from the National Archives and Records Administration \u2014 but rather the fact that doing so would\u2019ve notified Trump and potentially risked the investigation.<\/p>\n<p>Musk\u2019s company disagreed with the \u201cnondisclosure\u201d order barring them from notifying Trump that the government wanted his <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/lincoln-projects-social-media-influence-has-plummeted-analyses-show\/\" title=\"Lincoln Project\u2019s Social Media Influence Has Plummeted, Analyses Show\">social media data<\/a>, saying that the data were covered by executive privilege or the confidentiality afforded to the president. Some of the data <a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.com\/news\/2023\/08\/15\/special-counsel-obtained-trump-twitter-howell-00111410\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>would\u2019ve included<\/a> the tweets he had drafted, location information, and searches.<\/p>\n<p>The judge and prosecutors doubted this, thinking it unlikely Trump would conduct official business via his Twitter direct messages.
