Named \u2064the Illegitimate\u2064 Court \u2064Counteraction Act and introduced\u2064 by Rep. Chip Roy, the bill was approved 247-155, \u2064with all Republicans \u200dand 42 Democrats in favor. The resolution targets ICC actions involving protected individuals. Vance's railway bill gains momentum.\">bill remains uncertain<\/a>.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"readmore\">\n    <button onclick=\"showReadMore()\" id=\"readmorebtn\">Read more&#8230;<\/button>\n<\/p>\n<hr id=\"line\">\n<span id=\"more\"><\/p>\n<div>\n<p>The <a href=\"http:\/\/washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/house-of-representatives\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>House<\/a> passed a resolution on Tuesday that would impose sanctions on the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/international-criminal-court\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>International Criminal Court<\/a> if it attempts to prosecute the United States or its allies, a move championed by <a href=\"http:\/\/washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/republicans\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>Republicans<\/a> as the party touts strong support of <a href=\"http:\/\/washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/israel\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>Israel<\/a> in its war with Hamas.<\/p>\n<p>The Illegitimate Court Counteraction Act, introduced by Rep. Chip Roy (R-TX), passed the lower chamber, 247 to 155, with two members voting \u201cpresent.\u201d Twenty-seven members did not vote. All Republicans were joined by 42 Democrats in voting in favor of the resolution. <\/p>\n<p>The resolution would impose sanctions on the ICC\u00a0if it engages in efforts to \u201cinvestigate, arrest, detain, or prosecute any protected person of the United States and its allies.\u201d\u00a0Some of these sanctions could come in the form of blocking U.S. property transactions, deeming individuals inadmissible to the U.S., and revoking any visas those individuals may possess. <\/p>\n<p>The bill now heads to the Senate, where it will likely be ignored by Democratic leadership.<\/p>\n<p>Many \u201cno\u201d votes on Tuesday came from progressive House Democrats who have been vocally critical of Israeli Prime Minister <a href=\"http:\/\/washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/benjamin-netanyahu\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Benjamin Netanyahu<\/a>, who faces an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/house-gop-weighs-punishing-icc-for-seeking-arrest-warrants-for-israeli-officials\/\" title=\"House Republicans consider taking action against the ICC for issuing arrest warrants for Israeli officials\">arrest warrant application<\/a> from the ICC over allegations of war crimes. <\/p>\n<p>Rep. Becca Balint (D-VT), who was a \u201chard no\u201d on the resolution, said ahead of the vote that the Illegitimate Court Counteraction Act is \u201cyet another example of Republicans just trying to divide us.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Earlier on Monday, House Republicans advanced the legislation out of the Rules Committee, 9-3, along strict partisan lines, to send the bill to the floor. Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) praised the legislation ahead of the vote during a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/sweeping-lgbt-bill-passes-house-gop-lawmaker-vows-to-fight-in-the-courts-and-beyond-if-it-becomes-law\/\" title=\"Sweeping LGBT Bill Passes House, GOP Lawmaker Vows To Fight \u2018In The Courts And Beyond\u2019 If It Becomes Law\">press conference earlier<\/a> on Tuesday. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe cannot allow this to stand,\u201d Johnson said of the ICC pursuing arrest warrants for Israeli leaders. \u201cIf the ICC was allowed to do this and go after the leaders of countries whose actions they disagree with, why would they not come after America?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhy wouldn\u2019t they then <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/breaking-jury-reaches-verdict-in-ahmaud-arbery-murder-trial\/\" title=\"BREAKING: Jury Reaches Verdict In Ahmaud Arbery Murder Trial\">issue arrest warrants<\/a> for the next president of the United States or any of our defense officials? Why not?,\u201d Johson said. \u201cWe know the president doesn\u2019t like to listen to us, but I hope that he\u2019ll listen to the members of at least his own party.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The legislation originally was intended to be a bipartisan effort, as both parties\u2019 congressional leaders have worked to demonstrate solidarity with the Jewish state following the Oct. 7, 2023, Hamas attacks. However, the Biden administration <a href=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/homenews\/house\/4692718-white-house-international-court-sanctions\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>said<\/a> last week it would oppose the resolution, drawing many Democrats away from the measure.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Administration is deeply concerned about the ICC Prosecutor\u2019s heedless rush to apply for arrest warrants for senior Israeli officials,\u201d the Biden administration said in a statement on Monday. \u201cAt the same time, the Administration opposes the imposition of sanctions against the ICC, its personnel, its judges, or those who assist its work.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere are more effective ways to defend Israel, preserve U.S. positions on the ICC, and promote international justice and accountability, and the Administration stands ready to work with the Congress on those options,\u201d the Biden administration continued.<\/p>\n<p>Democratic Caucus Chairman Pete Aguilar (D-CA) said during a press conference on Tuesday that he expected a lot of House Democrats to vote against the bill, arguing it is \u201cpremature\u201d given an arrest warrant has not yet been filed against Netanyahu.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re going to continue to be a strong ally of Israel, but we need to ensure that that safety and security is a part of that,\u201d Aguilar said. \u201cBut we feel that the ICC actions are premature, at this point.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd just a reminder that neither Israel nor the U.S. is a signed member of the ICC treaty,\u201d Aguilar added.<\/p>\n<p>The resolution passes as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/biden-to-announce-us-ban-on-russian-oil-imports\/\" title=\"Biden To Announce US Ban on Russian Oil Imports\">congressional leaders work<\/a> with Israeli officials to coordinate a date for Netanyahu to deliver a speech before a joint session of Congress. Many Democrats are <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/house\/3027025\/house-democrats-displeased-netanyahu-joint-session-address\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>displeased that the prime minister has been invited<\/a> to Capitol Hill, with Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) saying that he \u201cshouldn\u2019t be here.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>Others have pointed to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/white-house\/3024468\/biden-announces-israel-ceasefire-hostage-swap\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>newest ceasefire proposal that Biden announced<\/a> last Friday, arguing that there should be more focus on finding an end to the war than using Netanyahu\u2019s address as a \u201cdeeply political move.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>CLICK HERE TO READ MORE FROM THE WASHINGTON EXAMINER<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Rep.
