Matt Gaetz of Florida on Tuesday as Gaetz pressed him about whether the Justice Department had colluded with local and state officials who have targeted former President Donald Trump with legal action.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/ag-merrick-garland-announces-end-biden-classified-documents-investigation\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Garland<\/a> sidestepped a number of questions and ultimately claimed the DOJ had not been involved with civil and criminal cases targeting Trump in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/trumps-right-scotus-step-stop-interference-new-york-2024-election\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">New York<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/georgia-appeals-court-gives-trump-great-news-fight-fani-willis\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Georgia<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/thomas-massie-accuses-merrick-garland-of-perjury-during-house-hearing\/\" title=\"Thomas Massie alleges that Merrick Garland committed perjury during a House hearing.\">heated exchange occurred<\/a> during a House Judiciary Committee hearing as Gaetz appeared eager to shed light on the DOJ\u2019s role in cases not related to its own <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/trump-calls-arrest-jack-smith-prosecutors-admit-misleading-judge-evidence-tampered\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">two federal cases<\/a> against Trump.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMr. Attorney General, you\u2019ve told us it\u2019s a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/bidens-covid-19-flip-flops-a-timeline\/\" title=\"Biden\u2019s COVID-19 Flip-Flops: A Timeline\">dangerous conspiracy theory<\/a> to allege that the Department of Justice is communicating with these state and local prosecutions against Trump,\u201d Gaetz said to open up his questioning of Garland.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"YouTube video player\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/u3dIYWbCtrk?si=LpF53ALK74-jfxH7\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Gaetz added, \u201cYou can clear it all up for us right now, will the Department of Justice provide to the committee all documents, all correspondence, between the department and Alvin Bragg\u2019s office, and Fani Willis\u2019 office and Letitia James\u2019 office?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Garland claimed the three state and local officials run \u201cindependent\u201d offices but he was cut off by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/watch-matt-gaetz-gives-fiery-speech-torches-anti-trump-judge-outside-courtroom-made-crime\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">the Florida Republican<\/a>, who said, \u201cI don\u2019t need a history lesson.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe question is whether or not you will provide all your documents and correspondence. That\u2019s the question,\u201d Gaetz said.<\/p>\n<p>Garland said that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/pro-life-groups-hit-back-new-york-ag-letitia-james-court-allege-unfair-witch-hunt\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">James<\/a>, the attorney general of New York, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/alvin-braggs-top-trump-prosecutor-comes-official-investigation\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Bragg<\/a> the Manhattan District attorney and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/fani-willis-throws-tantrum-jim-jordan-contempt-deadline-arrives\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Willis<\/a>, the district attorney of Fulton County, Georgia, are each \u201cindependent\u201d of his federal department.<\/p>\n<div id=\"firefly-poll-container\">\n<p>Is the Department of Justice corrupt?<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p>\u201cThe question is whether you communicate with them, not whether you control them,\u201d Gaetz said before he demanded Garland voluntarily hand over communications between the state and local offices and the DOJ.<\/p>\n<p>Gaetz then pressed Garland for his thoughts on Judge <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/ny-trump-judge-donated-biden-radical-left-wing-orgs-receipts\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Juan Merchan<\/a>, who is presiding over Trump\u2019s New York criminal trial, will sentence him on July 11, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/ny-trump-judge-donated-biden-radical-left-wing-orgs-receipts\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">who donated<\/a> to now-President Joe Biden\u2019s campaign in 2020. New York <a href=\"https:\/\/ww2.nycourts.gov\/rules\/chiefadmin\/100.shtml\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">rules on judicial ethics<\/a> prohibit judges from \u201csoliciting funds for, paying an assessment to, or making a contribution to a political organization or candidate.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen you were a judge, did you ever <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/new-york-family-gave-hochul-300k-state-paid-their-company-637m-for-covid-tests\/\" title=\"New York Family Gave Hochul 0K, State Paid Their Company 7M For COVID Tests\">make political donations<\/a> to partisan candidates?\u201d Gaetz asked him.<\/p>\n<p>Garland said he did not donate to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/swiss-billionaire-pumps-208-million-into-left-wing-groups-that-help-democrats-win-elections-nyt-report\/\" title=\"Swiss Billionaire Pumps 8 Million Into Left-Wing Groups That Help Democrats Win Elections: NYT Report\">partisan political campaigns<\/a> and said he would not comment on the upcoming sentence that Merchan will hand down after Trump was found guilty of 34 felony counts of \u201cfalsifying business records\u201d in the case last week.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m well aware you\u2019re not asking me a hypothetical,\u201d Garland told Gaetz. \u201cYou\u2019re asking me to comment on a jury verdict in another jurisdiction which has to be respected.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Gaetz followed up by asking the AG to comment on another conflict of interest involving Merchan \u2013 his daughter Loren Merchan\u2019s work as a political consultant for high-profile Democrats \u2013 including the Biden campaign, and Vice President Kamala Harris\u2019 campaign for the Democratic nomination in 2019, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.newsweek.com\/who-loren-merchan-juan-merchan-daughter-donald-trump-judge-1884557\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Newsweek<\/a> reported.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWell, it seems you\u2019re connecting the dots, Mr. Attorney General! I\u2019m just asking in general principle, but you are aware that Judge Merchan\u2019s daughter was profiting off this prosecution,\u201d Gaetz said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou are aware that that creates the appearance of impropriety. You know there\u2019s a reason there\u2019s a federal rule against judges giving donations because it is the very attack on the judicial process that we\u2019re concerned about,\u201d Gaetz added.<\/p>\n<p>Garland concluded he did not \u201cagree\u201d with Gaetz and further declined to offer clear answers to his questions.<\/p>\n<p>In his <a href=\"https:\/\/www.justice.gov\/opa\/speech\/attorney-general-merrick-b-garland-delivers-opening-statement-house-judiciary-0\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">opening remarks<\/a> on Tuesday morning, Garland appeared to try to get ahead of answering tough questions from Republicans about the DOJ\u2019s role in prosecutions of Trump in New York and Georgia.<\/p>\n<p>He labeled any effort to connect the DOJ to those prosecutions as a \u201cconspiracy theory.\u201d<\/p>\n<hr>\n<div>\n<p><b><i>An Important Message from Our Staff:<\/i><\/b><\/p>\n<p><i><span>In just a few months, the world is going to change forever.
