It highlighted instances \u200cof \u200dchildren expressing their gender inclinations\u200b and underscored\u200c the significance of parental \u2064listening and support.\u200c Criticism from social media users targeted CNN&#8217;s stance on \u200bsuggesting\u2064 gender transitions for young children, igniting a contentious discussion on the\u200b matter.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"readmore\">\n    <button onclick=\"showReadMore()\" id=\"readmorebtn\">Read more&#8230;<\/button>\n<\/p>\n<hr id=\"line\">\n<span id=\"more\"><\/p>\n<p>CNN was slammed online after a Sunday article advising parents to take their four-year-olds seriously when they say they are transgender.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf your kid just told you they\u2019re trans, here\u2019s what you should know,\u201d the article\u2019s headline reads.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2024\/06\/02\/health\/transgender-children-parenting-advice-wellness\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">article<\/a> cites a Methodist pastor who said her four-year-old daughter told her that she \u201ctold God when I was a star in the sky that I was a boy, but God made me a girl.\u201d The four-year-old had\u00a0\u201cpreferred typical boys\u2019 clothes, hairstyles and activities since preschool.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Another mother \u201cgave birth to a baby she thought was a boy,\u201d but the child \u201ccame out\u201d as non-binary at age 8 and began identifying as a girl at age 10, the article says. That mother is now co-lead for the group Families United for Trans Rights.<\/p>\n<p>The article cites Nova Bright-Williams, a trans-identifying man at the Trevor Project, a nonprofit that says it works to prevent LGBT youth suicides.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOne of the hardest things for us to do as parents is pause when that vision gets interrupted and really listen to what our kiddos are saying to us,\u201d Bright-Williams said.<\/p>\n<p>Bright-Williams repeated the common claim that affirming children\u2019s new <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/you-absolutely-know-queer-children-scholastic-urges-teachers-to-give-kids-lgbt-books-in-2024-guide\/\" title=\"Scholastic Encourages Teachers to Include LGBT Books for Children in 2024 Guide\">gender identities helps prevent<\/a> their suicides. To the four-year-old. Who is 4. Years old,\u201d posted conservative commentator Joel Pollak.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMy nieces are 4 years old. Guess what they want to do? Listen to Disney princesses and play with their toys. Why? BECAUSE THEY\u2019RE 4 YEARS OLD,\u201d posted another X user.<\/p>\n<p>Others said that ironically, they agreed with CNN that parents should listen if their children say they are transgender \u2014 they should listen so they can figure out how their kids were exposed to gender ideology.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf your [4-year-old] talks about gender identity, find out who has been talking to your [4-year-old] and stop it,\u201d wrote one X user.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf they\u2019re bringing it up, it\u2019s because they\u2019re being indoctrinated by it at school. Therefore it is time to go directly to the school and find out what is being taught because as we found out during covid, what we think is being taught and what is actually being taught are not the same,\u201d wrote another user.<\/p>\n<p>The article also claims that it is \u201crare\u201d for children to detransition, or stop identifying as transgender, and it\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/the-transgender-movement-is-not-just-intolerant-its-barbaric-and-violent-and-its-coming-for-your-children\/\" title=\"The Transgender Movement Is Not Just Intolerant. It\u2019s Barbaric And Violent, And It\u2019s Coming For Your Children\">promotes puberty blockers<\/a> as a way to relieve children\u2019s gender distress by \u201ctemporarily\u201d pausing puberty. One parent realized that \u201cwithholding them would not be a neutral decision, since puberty is permanent \u2014 which could have negative consequences for a child who doesn\u2019t identify with that body,\u201d the article says.<\/p>\n<p>Puberty blockers <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/top-doctors-in-transgender-field-admit-puberty-blockers-arent-so-reversible-report\">can have<\/a> profound <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mayoclinic.org\/diseases-conditions\/gender-dysphoria\/in-depth\/pubertal-blockers\/art-20459075\">effects<\/a> on bone growth and density and cause sexual dysfunction, voice damage, and infertility, among other issues.<\/p>\n<p>GLAAD, which monitors LGBT media coverage, praised the article calling it a \u201cmust-read\u201d and took the opportunity to chide The New York Times, which has <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2024\/02\/02\/opinion\/transgender-children-gender-dysphoria.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">published<\/a> opinion articles skeptical of medical transition for children.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTake note, @NYTimes, this is how to report on trans youth accurately and without bias,\u201d GLAAD posted on X.<\/p>\n<p><\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>CNN faced criticism online for an article suggesting parents should acknowledge their four-year-olds&#8217; transgender identities seriously.
