Led by Tennessee AG Jonathan Skrmetti, they called for\u200b a review \u2063post \u200dthe\u200d Supreme Court&#8217;s \u200c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/universities-scrap-sat-scramble-to-stay-diverse-ahead-of-affirmative-action-ruling\/\" title=\"Universities Scrap SAT, Scramble To Stay Diverse Ahead Of Affirmative Action Ruling\">affirmative action ruling<\/a>, insisting on fair treatment without racial bias for law students and faculty. The focus\u2062 is on \u2064Standard 206\u2064 on diversity and\u200c inclusion, requiring revisions in line with federal law.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"readmore\">\n    <button onclick=\"showReadMore()\" id=\"readmorebtn\">Read more&#8230;<\/button>\n<\/p>\n<hr id=\"line\">\n<span id=\"more\"><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Over twenty Republican attorneys general are warning the American Bar Association that its diversity and inclusion standards may violate the Constitution. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Led by Tennessee Attorney General Jonathan Skrmetti, the Republican officials sent a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tn.gov\/content\/dam\/tn\/attorneygeneral\/documents\/pr\/2024\/pr24-47-letter.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">letter<\/a> Monday to the American Bar Association, the organization that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/nyc-law-school-makes-systemic-racism-courses-a-graduation-requirement\/\" title=\"NYC Law School Makes \u2018Systemic Racism\u2019 Courses a Graduation Requirement\">accredits law schools<\/a> across the country, saying that it needed to reconsider its diversity standards in light of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/topic\/supreme-court\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Supreme Court<\/a>\u2019s ruling on affirmative action. The letter said that the affirmative action decision \u201crequires significant adjustments\u201d to the bar association standards to make sure they aren\u2019t treating law students and faculty differently based on race. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cThe rule of law cannot long survive if the organization that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/state-attorneys-general-push-american-bar-association-to-end-race-based-advocacy\/\" title=\"State attorneys general urge the American Bar Association to halt race-based advocacy\">accredits legal education requires<\/a> every American law school to ignore the Constitution and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/bidens-blue-state-claw-back\/\" title=\"Biden\u2019s Blue State Claw Back\">civil rights law<\/a>,\u201d Skrmetti said. \u201cThe American Bar Association has long pursued the high calling of promoting respect for the law and the integrity of the legal profession, and we call on the organization to recommit to those ideals and ensure that its standards for law schools comport with federal law.\u201d <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">A particular issue is the American Bar Association\u2019s Standard 206 on diversity and inclusion. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The standard <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tn.gov\/content\/dam\/tn\/attorneygeneral\/documents\/pr\/2024\/pr24-47-letter.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">says<\/a> that schools should demonstrate \u201ca commitment to diversity and inclusion by providing full opportunities for the study of law and entry into the profession by members of underrepresented groups, particularly racial and ethnic minorities.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The standards are currently undergoing revisions, but the attorneys general said that the proposed alternatives still seemed to focus on race. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cWhile we support the Council\u2019s willingness to modify Standard 206, the proposed revisions reemphasize Standard 206\u2019s problematic requirement that law schools engage in race-based admissions and hiring,\u201d they wrote. \u201cWe urge the Council to modify its standards in a way that comports with federal law and with the ABA\u2019s purported commitment to set the legal and ethical foundation for the nation.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Skrmetti suggested that law schools across the country might be subject to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/shapiro-stop-surrendering-education-to-the-radical-left\/\" title=\"SHAPIRO: Stop Surrendering Education To The Radical Left\">civil rights lawsuits<\/a> if they maintained their current diversity requirements. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><b><a href=\"https:\/\/onelink.to\/dwapp\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" aria-describedby=\"sk-tooltip-9096\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/onelink.to\/dwapp&#038;source=gmail&#038;ust=1700760801843000&#038;usg=AOvVaw2PQrVSrJfhxNb4LcARqniG\">CLICK HERE TO GET THE DAILYWIRE+ APP<\/a><\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cIf the standards continue to insist on treating students and faculty differently based on the color of their skin, they will burden every law school in America with punitive civil rights litigation,\u201d he said. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The attorneys general of Alabama, Alaska, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Idaho, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, Oklahoma, South Carolina, South Dakota, Texas, Utah, and Virginia all signed on to the lawsuit. <\/span><\/p>\n<p>New York <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/new-york-bar-associations-encourage-law-schools-to-bypass-scotus-affirmative-action-decision-report-finds?topStoryPosition=5\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">bar associations<\/a> have already signaled they may attempt to bypass the SCOTUS affirmative action decision while the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/wisconsin-state-bar-must-keep-diversity-internship-open-to-all-after-lawsuit-from-conservative-group\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Wisconsin<\/a> Bar Association agreed to a partial settlement earlier this year over a \u201cdiversity\u201d internship program.<\/p>\n<p><\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Over 20 Republican attorneys general caution the American Bar Association about potential Constitution violations in diversity and inclusion standards.
