In his <a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.com\/f\/?id=0000018f-e11c-d6d1-a9bf-e7fe3b4c0000&#038;nname=playbook&#038;nid=0000014f-1646-d88f-a1cf-5f46b7bd0000&#038;nrid=0000014e-f115-dd93-ad7f-f915a6170001&#038;nlid=630318\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">opening remarks<\/a>, the failed SCOTUS nominee claimed Republicans\u2019 efforts to find him in contempt of Congress for several abuses of power, including refusing to release audio of Special Counsel Robert Hur\u2019s interview with President Joe Biden, only adds to \u201ca long line of attacks on the Justice Department\u2019s work\u201d and his attempt to uphold rule of law.<\/p>\n<p>He did not mention that he\u2019s lied to Congress and obfuscated details in several key cases. Instead, Garland suggested the House\u2019s attempt to carry out its funding and regulatory duties constituted \u201cthreats to defund\u201d the DOJ for partisan reasons.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThese repeated attacks on the Justice Department are unprecedented and unfounded,\u201d Garland said. \u201cThese attacks have not, and they will not, influence our decision making.\u201d<\/p>\n<div class=\"fdrlst__b89e9-67ac9e6b9825c093cb8ce2d1daef12fe fdrlst__b89e9-paragraph-6\" id=\"fdrlst__b89e9-67ac9e6b9825c093cb8ce2d1daef12fe\"><\/div>\n<p>The same man who turned a <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2023\/05\/10\/merrick-garlands-refusal-to-protect-supreme-court-justices-endangers-the-country\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">blind eye to the death threats<\/a> leveled against the Supreme Court following its <em>Dobbs v. Jackson<\/em> ruling claimed DOJ employees are suffering \u201cheinous threats of violence.\u201d Cooperation with congressional oversight as required in the U.S. Constitution, however, he suggested would \u201cjeopardize the ability of our prosecutors and agents to do their jobs effectively in future investigations.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI will not be intimidated. And the Justice Department will not be intimidated. We will continue to do our jobs free from political influence. And we will not back down from defending our democracy,\u201d Garland concluded.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Crocodile Tears<\/h2>\n<p>Ranking Member Rep. Jerry Nadler, D-N.Y., kicked off the hearing by claiming Garland\u2019s time as attorney general has been marked by \u201cthoughtfulness and decency.\u201d Republicans strongly disagreed.<\/p>\n<p>Nearly every time Republicans pressed in key issues like Garland\u2019sm <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/JudiciaryGOP\/status\/1798026021272273101\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">stifling of the release<\/a> of Hur\u2019s interview with Biden and Matthew Colangelo\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2024\/06\/03\/joe-bidens-fingerprints-are-all-over-the-criminal-prosecutions-of-trump\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">suspicious transfer<\/a> from the DOJ to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2021\/02\/18\/nyregion\/trump-investigation-manhattan.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">\u201cjump start\u201d<\/a> the New York criminal case against Trump, Garland suggested their questions were <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/RepMattGaetz\/status\/1798017986202153049\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">\u201cdangerous conspiracy theories\u201d<\/a> that \u201craise threats of violence\u201d against his department.<\/p>\n<div class=\"fdrlst__b89e9-9d236c5c2f378a3bfafe56847a6b2f79 fdrlst__b89e9-paragraph-10\" id=\"fdrlst__b89e9-9d236c5c2f378a3bfafe56847a6b2f79\"><\/div>\n<p>The first evidence was when Garland claimed the DOJ does not \u201ccontrol\u201d local district attorneys like Alvin Bragg, yet stopped short of confirming \u201ccommunications\u201d with such prosecutors or cooperating with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/san-francisco-public-schools-renaming-plan-rife-with-historical-errors\/\" title=\"San Francisco Public Schools Renaming Plan \u2018Rife With Historical Errors\u2019\">committee members<\/a> who want to see any alleged communications.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou come in here and you lodge this attack that it\u2019s a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/miles-anonymous-taylor-accidentally-exposes-the-fraudulence-of-the-mainstream-media\/\" title=\"Miles 'Anonymous' Taylor Accidentally Exposes the Fraudulence of the Mainstream Media\">conspiracy theory<\/a> that there is coordinated lawfare against Trump. And then when we say \u2018Fine, just give us the documents, give us the correspondence. And then if it\u2019s a conspiracy theory, that will be evident.\u2019 But then you say, \u2018Well, we\u2019ll take your request, and then we\u2019ll sort of work it through the DOJ\u2019s accommodation process,\u2019 then you\u2019re actually advancing the \u2018very <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/bidens-covid-19-flip-flops-a-timeline\/\" title=\"Biden\u2019s COVID-19 Flip-Flops: A Timeline\">dangerous conspiracy theory<\/a>,\u2019\u201d Republican Rep.
